In today’s episode of “Instagram made me do it,” I recently tried Faka’s Island Grill (@fakasislandgrill), located inside Santa Ana’s 4th Street Market (@4thstreetmarket). I’m not the biggest fan of Hawaiian food, but I’m always down to try something new and I love supporting local businesses. According to them “[t]his isn’t your traditional island food.” Since 2013, they have gone from Craigslist catering jobs to local community events, to now having their own space in OC. I ordered the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Katsu Plate and it was OK. The chicken was both crispy and juicy, but the flavor was relatively lackluster. It wasn’t life-changing delicious; certainly nothing to write home about. The kids LOVE spam masubi. We got some from @fakasislandgrill @4thstreetmarket . We also tried their katsu chicken and garlic shrimp plate. We really enjoyed everything. The katsu was perfectly crispy and moist, the macaroni salad they serve it with is 😋, the garlic shrimp was crispy, plump and the right amount of garlic, and the spam masubi was everything a spam masubi should be. I saw a bunch of people ordering some dessert from there and now I’m kicking myself for not getting one. This means, we’ll have to go back. I also want to add that there was only one person working there and he was cranking everything out as fast as he could without sacrificing the integrity of the food. This Foodie Femme loves her pork belly in all forms.
