You masubi the spam to my masubi! A childhood snack that just hits the spot. I would used to get a couple of these suckers with some high school band mates before we got ready for Friday night football games. They were the absolutely best. Carbs and protein all in one bite. Just don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Ingredients 1 cup of rice 1 can of spam 3 eggs 1/4 cup soy sauce 2 tbsp oyster sauce 2 tbsp brown sugar 3 slices of ginger Seaweed Directions Cook your rice and let cool. In a sauce pan, heat up your sauces with the brown sugar and ginger. Adjust the flavor to your liking. Depending on how thick you cut your spam, one can yield 8 slices. Pan fry the spam until they’re nicely brown on each side. If your sauce is ready, I also like to brush the sauce onto the spam as it’s being pan fried to absorb all the deliciousness. This also creates a nice golden crisp! Mix eggs in a bowl and then pan fry a nice thin even layer (or leave it out all together). With the spam masubi mold, cut out your eggs. In a sauce pan, heat up your sauces with the brown sugar and ginger. Adjust the flavor to your liking. One square of seaweed can be folded/cut in half to wrap two spam masubis! There are two options to assemble! Ideally, you would have spam masubi molds on hand. If you don’t, you can create your own mold with the can that the spam came in. Just don’t forget to clean it well! You’ll want to use seran wrap to help you assemble if decide to go the DIY route. Now let’s get to assembling! Add a couple spoons of rice, top with the egg and spam inside the mold. Use the top of the mold to press down and form your spam masubi. Remove the mold and wrap your spam masubi with a sheet of seaweed. Now you’re done! It can take some practice and it’s also ok if you mess up the first time! You can always eat it as a decomposed spam masubi in the form of spam fried rice later. That’s the beauty of cooking. You can always eat it, one way or another. 😏

Spam Masubi 🥸 So easy to make and a good quick bite for the next day. Instead of using only short grain rice, I used 1:1 ratio of sticky rice : short grain rice and seasoned it with rice vinegar, salt, and sugar before cooking it. Spam masubi: 6/10 Was happy to see a unique food in a baseball stadium so you know I had to get it! They had several already premade inside a warmer of course due to the high volume of people at a baseball game. Unfortunately, I feel like them sitting took away tons of the flavor. Also, I personally feel they would sell tons more if they dropped the price a few dollars because they are kind of small (or give 2 for the same price of $7 that they have). Overall the flavors all blended together but nothing really stood out. Although I’m giving an average rating I will for sure buy again next time coming out to this ball park! My first attempt at Spam Masubi came out better than I thought it would. Made a sauce using Kewpi mayo, soy sauce, sesame oil, fresh corn (from the garden), Aleppo pepper flakes, black pepper, garlic and onion powders. The Spam was sliced and air fried.
