I captured this photo of the Milky Way back in early August from the Fairview Curve Overlook in Rocky Mountain National Park. From there you can look down on the Kawuneeche Valley below and to the Never Summer Mountains beyond. The small light down in the valley is coming from the Timber Creek campground. At that point in time wildfire smoke was still a daily part of the experience, and it presents itself here as the haze along the horizon. There’s also just a bit of cloud obscuring the Milky Way’s galactic center. There were a number of photos I planned to do in 2020 that I just wasn’t able to execute between the pandemic and a bad wildfire season here in Colorado. I’ve been blessed to be able to check a lot of those off this year, and this was one of them. I’m hoping to continue that trend for the rest of this year.
