If you're going my way, I'll go with you." -jim croce Ohh these views! Exhiliration, being closer to heaven and the air the angels breathe (something like words Mark Twain once said), loveliness echoing in the pines and the snow banks and trickling sounds between the mostly frozen falls. This is Alluvial Fan. Starkly contrasting winter views compared to my summer memories of this place. But a haven all the same. It's National Parks week and I realized I had this one last place to share from my trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. 🌲 In winter time, the park feels like a deserted land for most part, and you can find solitude to dream and pray and ponder in most places there, but Alluvial Fan is loneliest of all in the best way. Not another soul was found here. I could likely have set up camp and awakened next morning to this view all to myself, feeling as if I were the only one I the whole expanse of the park. Dreamy beauty, spectacular memories. Pennsylvania Mountain is an easy, albeit windy, 13er with lots of opportunities to explore the vast tundra leading up to the summit. Prepared for a “slight breeze” on our hike, but Sniktau was feeling sassy and decided to give us the full Continental Divide experience yesterday. Windy, but worth it! 🌬️ 🗻 At 13,234 feet, Mount Sniktau serves up some of the best views of the Continental Divide. 🗻 The name “Sniktau” is derived from the Ute language, meaning “sunset” or “red paint,” which is appropriate given its first row seat to the sunrise and sunset. 🗻 The trail is known for its challenging yet rewarding terrain with steep inclines, rocky paths, and snowfields. With 1,555’ elevation gain over 1.8 miles to the summit, it’s a rewarding hike for varying skill levels. Time to descend to where it had started 11 hours and 15 minutes earlier. 🙈 The scenery was the same as on the way up with the nuances I always enjoy at different times of the day. Clouds in the sky, shadows cast across different spots, 'sluffy' mini avalanches around Black Lake, and a by then softened Mills Lake that I opted to pass along its shoreline after landing with one foot in the water. Luckily, I hadn't made it far onto the lake. Colorado photo dump 🏔️🏔️ Mine and Brian’s favorite vacation spot is the mountains! We never get tired of the mountain views and the outdoor adventures! I hope Josie will love it as much as we do! 🫶🏻 Trip details: (save for later!) We HIGHLY recommend going snowmobile riding (anywhere, really!) but especially out here! It was soooo much fun! 🤩 Josie and I did a lot of driving around, site seeing & shopping while Brian went skiing! We liked Boreas Pass Road and seeing the beautiful homes on Ski Hill Road 🙌🏼 Josie and I spotted our dream mountain house while driving 😂 Our favorite coffee shop was @thecrownbreckenridge it was definitely the place to be! 🫶🏻☕️ You all know how much I love coffee and this was my favorite out of all the places I tried! We were so excited to finally get to Colorado! Being from California, we knew it would be our kinda place and our kinda people. That’s the funny thing about preconceptions… If I’m being honest, we found the cities to lack culture and the people to be stand-offish. Unpopular opinion, I know! So we definitely plan to go back and give it more time, because we know we missed something on this trip. The mountains, on the other hand, did not disappoint one bit. Just absolutely GORGEOUS! From Garden of the Gods to Breckenridge and Silverthorne, we could have camped and hiked in the mountains for weeks and not gotten sick of the clean, crisp air, the clear, starry nights, and the awe inspiring vistas. That’s another reason we’re definitely going back. Have you been to Colorado?
