For spring break this year, I took the fam on a road trip to Big Bend Country. We rendezvoused with Uncle Skipper and explored Terlingua, Lajitas, the Camino Del Rio in Big Bend Ranch State Park, and Big Bend National Park. Flow The Passaic River flowed rapidly near Paterson Falls, creating straight cascades that indicated the long-present industrial structures in the area. The early fall had already bleached out most colors from it, but a passing by school bus added so much vibrancy that helped me appreciated the uniqueness of the old industrial town. . As local artist and Presidio Activator Favianna Rodriguez (@favianna1 ) puts it, “people just walk into the art, and they feel joy.” There’s no better place to see the transformative power of art than at Presidio Tunnel Tops, where you’ll find stunning art installations by artists like Favianna, thanks to “Ancestral Futurism: Looking Back to Repair the Future,” her public art mentorship project. It was ⛰️National Parks Week🌲 with today being the last day to conclude the week, this happens every year in April. In dedication to #NationalParks, I compiled my visits over the years in some national parks with pictures I never shared before. Why should you visit a national park? For one, just 30 mins of visiting one, you can improve your circulation, heart health, and blood pressure. 5 minutes into walking there, you will feel happier with an improved self-esteem, mood, and feel relaxed. But aside from those benefits for your mind and body, you will learn about the history, geography, and get up-close evidence of what has been created or changed in landscapes that are protected by our federal. And I can testify that national parks have played a role in how I travel and what I want to see in the world. En el humedal hay una floreciente vegetación 🪷 y las ciénagas se encuentran cubiertas por una hierba muy larga y fina que se mece al viento. 🕊️ Debido a la pequeña capa de agua que lo cubre todo, la única forma de conocer los Everglades es a bordo de un aerodeslizador (lancha con un gran ventilador detrás 🪭). What a trip! The past ten days have been amazing. I married my best friend in Las Vegas. Most of our family and a few friends even came out to celebrate with us! Love you all and thank you so much for coming. We are so glad we got to share that with you. After the wedding we set off on a seven day road trip out west hitting five different states, multiple national parks, a state park, plenty of road side attractions/trails and some really cool towns. Oh and not to mention a terrifying/thrilling hike up to Angles Landing at Zion National Park! This really has been the best 10 days of my life. I can't believe I was able to do all these amazing things at all these amazing places. Incredible morning spent on Lake Manly in Death Valley. Would have loved some clouds but the water was calm. I can’t wait to get back and see the big boy camera stuff. The saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) has been a symbol of the American southwest for ages that people from all over the world come to see. It is known as the giant cactus due to its impressive height, sometimes reaching over 50 feet tall. Though these towering giants seem robust, they need a perfect of heat and rainfal to thrive and will only be found in the Sonoran Desert. Life in the desert can be very slow growing, with saguaros taking 10 years to reach only a few inches in height and living up to 200 years old. Spent a day in Northern Arizona in the Petrified Forest & Painted Desert. While these tree logs look like they were cut, the movement and erosion of the land is what caused the logs to break. Today we are celebrating National Park Week Day 9 featuring our "Arts in the Parks" initiatives by highlighting the park’s In My Backyard and Youth Artist-in-Residence programs! These programs are not just about creating art, they are platforms for young voices to be heard and celebrated within the National Park Service. In My Backyard gives local youth a platform to express their unique perspectives and relationships with the park through creative projects. It’s a space where the community's youngest members can explore and express their connections to our natural and cultural resources. The Youth Artist-in-Residence program gives young artists a space to immerse themselves in the park's environment and cultural heritage, creating art that captures the essence of the city of Seattle and Klondike's history. Internship-Interpretation and Visitor Services: Join the Visitor Experience and Community Engagement team. With provided training, you will research, prepare, and present formal and informal interpretive programs including talks and guided tours. These programs will focus on the environmental resources of the area, including the vital role the Saugus River has played to human and wildlife. Become an Artist-In-Residence and create 🎼 art in varied natural and cultural settings with sights and sounds that will give you inspiration. There are over 5️⃣0️⃣ programs nationwide, so whether you are a visual artist, writer, or musician, there is a place for you to create beauty.
