Visited this NYC steakhouse and grill style restaurant called Clam bar by the team from Bistro 916 and Pellegrino 2000. I loved the food at Bistro 916 and I loved the ceiling here so I had to try it. Plus SMH called this place highly delicious and it books out really quickly due to its popularity. We ordered: 🦪 WA oysters that had a lovely sweet taste that it is one of my favs now. 🍝 Spaghetti and Clams - at the Clam bar so thought this was a must. It was Al dente pasta and the sauce was rich butter sauce with lots of parsley 😋. 🍔 Cheeseburger - some have claimed this is the best burger in Sydney. It was a juicy and delicious burger. I liked the sharp mustard sauce. 🍝 Macaroni all vodka - so tasty first time tried pasta with vodka and liked it and I’m not into vodka. 🥬 creamed spinach - baked dish. Was our green intake. Had a lovely lunch yesterday at Nico in Cammeray yesterday. This place is inspired by the Amalfi Coast shown in their colourful interiors. Lots of seafood and pasta on the menu too. The chef wanted his own restaurant to give us that feeling were are on holidays in the spectacular Italian coastline. It’s 39 degree Celsius tomorrow what a better way than to visit Anita Gelato! We absolutely loved the gelatos here. Last week people came in and saw our gelatos commenting how beautiful they were but they aren’t just beautiful but they taste amazing too! Weekends are a must for brunching! Had this amazing jungle brekkie pan with eggs your way, sourdough toast, grilled halloumi, confit cherry tomato, Sunil, Smokey bacon, crispy potatoes, labneh, Smashed avo, dukkah and house made tomato chili jam. This dish was packed with so much flavour! One of the most tastiest breakfast item I’ve ever had! Every element is incredible and it’s extra special with their tomato chili jam. If I had a top 5 for best brunch dish this would be included! I also got the buttermilk hot ales with the Biscoff cheesecake cream, Biscoff crumb, vanilla ice cream, salted caramel and berries. The pancakes were airy inside and surprisingly it wasn’t overly sweet even with the Biscoff. Of course gotta have these dishes with a cup of coffee! Featured items: ⚪️ Hokkaido Scallops - Soy, Chimichurri, Shiso 🍜 Tonkotsu Classic Ramen 🍜 Jidori Shio Ramen - with a side of chashu @sekkadining is one of my favourite places for ramen. My favourite is their classic tonkotsu ramen. The pork belly is slightly charred and perfectly cooked. The unami egg was just the way I like it with a soft & slightly runny yolk. The pork broth was also tasty without being too heavy. The Jidoro Shio ramen comes with poached chicken in a chicken broth base and an unami egg. The chicken was soft & tender and the chicken broth was lighter than the tonkotsu classic broth. Would recommend this one if you prefer a lighter broth base. When visiting @sekkadining I always make sure to order the Hokkaido scallops which I love. They were perfectly cooked and a good size for a snack & sauce was light and went well with the scallops. We visited for lunch and the menu is slightly different for dinner with skewers, duck ramen & wagyu cheek ramen available. They also have the Jidori Miso which is a new addition to the menu. It sounds very interesting with chicken roulade stuffed with seafood. Tucked in an alley way, you’ll find an underground intimate dining experience with next level Asian fusion dishes! Honestly could not fault anything! While everything was all delicious, my faves were the pork belly skewer with nuoc Cham glaze, pineapple and dill and, the striploin! This was true fusion at its best and all the flavours were punchy, yet delicate at the same time. The yuzu ice tea was so slay it was actually the best drink ever! LA PINTA If I were being picky, my only gripe with this Spanish-style tapas bar is that I’ve to drive such a long way from home to get to it. Otherwise, I absolutely can’t fault this eatery that sits by itself along a rather quiet section of the street. Step through the doors (if you’re lucky enough to get a seat) into the most fantastic boisterousness. That is: I love La Pinta. ••• Food first. La Pinta’s menu is written on the chalkboard. This means that dishes change all the time, depending on available local seasonal produce. Mains don’t exceed $25 and astounding snacks come in as low as $5. Two of my favourite things here, in fact: the housemade sourdough and tortilla de patatas. The extremely delish Spanish-style omelette with potatoes are pre-made, and they sit uncut on large plates on the bar counter. They slice it up to order, and casually serve it up on fuss-free white plates. Ambience. You can sit anywhere and feel like you want to stay for hours. I enjoyed the counter seats for an interactive evening with the service staff and bartender. And I also enjoyed taking the large communion table with my family inside the kitchen area - extremely quaint and cosy. The drinks I ordered were good. Andy makes cool cocktails and Jamie is just so hospitable. Of course, chef @adam_racina cooks superb simple food. ••• La Pinta operates mostly on a walk-in basis, and bookings are only available for groups of 5 or more. A hidden gem in Roseville @cafenate_roseville ☕️ Cosy cafe with outdoor courtyard and a vintage interior that offers a wide range of breakfast and lunch options with Asian fusion flavours and house made sweets and desserts. Every dish was beautifully presented, packed with flavours and was served in generous portions. My favourite dish was the prawn & chorizo roll which was served with large grilled prawns 🦐, chorizo, smashed avocado house coleslaw topped with flying fish roe and a mild Sriracha Mayo and ranch sauce which was so tasty😋! Izakaya You is a small cute authentic Izakaya offering Japanese dishes with an Osaka twist, conveniently located at the centre of Surfers Paradise 🏖 Izakaya are like tapas bars where food are served in small portions and they are designed to share and accompanied by alcoholic beverages 🍻. R E V I E W. 🏝 Trying to catch up on my food logs of where I have been in the past year and finally finding the time to organise my posts, so be prepared for a few throwbacks 😂 Managed to try Pilu at Freshwater for the lovely @bec.foodie ‘s birthday and I must say the quality of the food did not disappoint. We ended up ordering the set menu with a few a la carte options so that our other friend could eat a solid amount as well since she couldn’t eat raw fish at the time. Unfortunately whoever we got to serve our table was the let down for the night because he kept arguing with us when it came to ordering the food. Now don’t get me wrong there have been times where sometimes the food we ordered from places has been too much because the serving portions are huge, but in this case for a dining restaurant we knew the servings would be small and could finish everything. Yet we still got proceeded to be told the food we are ordering was too much and that we should not order despite how much we kept wanting the orders so our friend could actually eat something. That was one thing we really did not appreciate on the night. However, whoever took our bill at the end, WHEN WE FINISHED ALL OUR FOOD had an positive attitude and commended us for eating and finishing the amount we did. KA I’d say we are pretty blessed in Sydney with the food gods bestowing upon us yet another unique dining concept with @restaurant.ka in Darlinghurst. Look for my “Ka” highlight if you’re keen on all the details. ••• @zac_ng the chef + owner (who has spent 10 years working in the kitchen of famed and much lauded, but permanently shut, Sepia) opened up his tasting menu only restaurant in early September 2022. Ka is named after the Cantonese pronunciation of 家 the Chinese word for family or home. His reasons are two-fold. (1) that the restaurant would be heavily inspired by Cantonese cuisine; yet (2) not be pigeonholed as such because at home, one cooks whatever he/she wants to. Therefore at Ka your culinary journey will see a fusing of Cantonese flavours and techniques with other cuisines: French, Japanese, anything really. Eating here was a marvellous, intriguing experience, especially when I got to witness how Zac adapted Cantonese cooking (of which I have some degree of familiarity) into his culinary approach. ••• Cooking aside, I particularly admire Zac’s courage and determination in making his passion and dream come true. His restaurant is a true independent business; by himself, for himself. I dined here very close to the restaurant’s opening date and already experienced sparks of culinary genius, and cannot wait to see how Zac and Ka will continue to grow and evolve, and settle into Sydney’s dining scene.
