1740 miles and 2 months. Florida to Kansas solo by bicycle with a dog. I have a lot to think about. But I wanted to let my friends know I made it home. What's next? A rest. Then Greyhound bus to Florida to retrieve my truck. After which, I will begin preparing for a job living and working on a boat in Alaska at the beginning of June. -What are the main things I thought about on this trip: Food and miles -Favorite piece of gear: My ridiculously large camp pillow(no regrets in bringing it) -Something I thought I couldn't live without but fared just fine: My yoga mat and readily available sparkling flavored water -Heaviest thing I brought: My dog -What did I learn: Living on a bike for me should be more of a lifestyle than a trip. Therefore I should eliminate the end goal and travel where ever I am inspired to go and stop for long periods of time in places I want to work or live. Wherever I am is where I am living. When fear takes over, I become angry and I act. -Something that isn't really talked about but is a very real thing: Hemorroides from sitting in the saddle all day -Cost Biketouring is an affordable way to travel, however what you don't spend in fuel for your vehicle you soon find you are spending in fuel for your body. The hunger is ever present. You can eliminate costs by stealth camping and finding less costly access to food. Water is basically free in the USA. However, comfort is a luxury that can enhance the adventure, especially after periods of denying it or perserving when its not available. Number 5 on my dream travel bucket list is Rapa Nui! Also called Easter Island but I hate to use that name because it represents colonialism and all the yucky things that come with it. Its true name is Rapa Nui and I believe that should be the name that is widely known. Rapa Nui is a bit difficult to get to. The only way to it is through Santiago, Chile. But that’s part of the allure for me! I love a spot that’s difficult to get to. When you have to work hard for the experience, it’s that much more rewarding when you get there 😍 Fun fact: did you know the Moai statue heads also have bodies? Yep! They’re massive too!

One of the first rules of order for remodeling the new van was to install my old door panel. It's covered with stickers from our places and people we've met along the way. I wasn't about to leave that behind in my old van, or keep it stored away and out of sight! The handle wasn't an exact match and I covered up a speaker, but I figure I'll just cover the holes from the old handle with new stickers, and I'm sure Paco will appreciate the muffled music when we're driving. 🥳🙌🏼🥰
Number 8 on my travel bucket list is Botswana! Botswana is a gorgeous and safe country in Africa that’s known for its amazing safaris. You may have heard of Africa’s big 5: these are the 5 animals you want to see on a safari. These animals are- lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo. Botswana is home to all of these and more. I have not yet been on a safari but if I were to go on one, I’d pick Botswana to be the place! Not surprisingly, Botswana also has a vibrant culture and many traditional dances. I highly recommend spending some time on YouTube to watch these dances. Their footwork is absolutely incredible. Greenville, SC is a very pretty city. Thank you Shannon for the chance to rest :) The downtown trails along the waterfalls were awesome to ride. Replaced plastic pedals with new aluminum alloy ones. These are wider, stronger, with spiked grips. Drivetrain feels much smoother and I was able to confidently stand and pump up several steep hills already today. Stopped for groceries. Heading north now following a trail that will take me 20 or so miles up to another town. Which means I won't have to white knuckle my handlebars along highways today! Thank gosh. However, today and tomorrow start my route into the mountains. I believe this will be the hardest part of my journey. Its difficult to plan a safe route with inclines, bike friendly roads, potential road closures because it is still technically winter. But I have downloaded all the apps, stared at topographical maps, and have started connecting with locals on warmshowers.org for advice. This is not a Roller Coaster this is a walkable sculpture made of stainless steel called the Spacewalk located in the province of Pohang, South Korea... This was super dope and fascinating to see up close. Last night I asked permission to pitch my tent at a church. Turns out it was a Wednesday so I was invited to bible study that evening. I'm not religious but it was great getting to socialize and laugh with them. This morning was frosty but I was toasty :) Day 4 and I've covered 110+ miles and hope to get another 20+ in before stopping to camp tonight. I've been in such a good mood everyday, probably because of the amount of endorphins pumping in me from continuously exercising. #selfmedicated Today it occurred to me, bikes don't kill butterflies and for this I am grateful to be traveling by bike. Pizza may become my staple diet Dogs have chased me several times but I slow down and say, "Hi baby! Good job!" And they immediately are surprised that there is a human on board and let me pass on thru. Lucas is handling the dog occurrences well, and that was my biggest concern. I forgot a pencil but found one on the side of the road. A lady put 40 dollars on my bike last night after it was dark. My knees have been swollen since the first day, but no pain. And other than some expected soreness my body is doing well and noticeably getting stronger. I'm not as hungry as I thought I would be. Life in Doha, Qatar The temperature during the days is mild, and the evenings are cool. The souq is vibrant and busy with activity, especially after each AFC Asian Cup match with fans pouring in from the closest stadiums. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant is found by typing in Local Restaurant. It is always packed, with a constant queue. The food is fresh, simple, inexpensive, and delicious! A platter of Mixed Grill for 2 people, a pile of fresh flatbread, two containers of creamy hummus, and two sodas cost only 56 Qatari Riyals ($15 USD). One of the things I appreciate most about life in Qatar is how safe it is. Just a few evenings ago, my friend, Stu, and I had eaten at this place and then just went walking through the souq. We had been caught by the crowds and had been wandering for about 20 minutes when we realized he had forgotten his backpack under the table we had dined at. It contained his wallet, passport, as well as my wallet with credit cards, cash, and base ID. We both had a moment of panic, as he was flying the next day, but then I said, "Thank goodness we are in Qatar, because we know the backpack will still be there." And it was safely behind the counter. I've heard of at least a dozen similar stories of phones, wallets, and packages forgotten, and all were retrieved or returned by Uber drivers. It is refreshing to live with the best of humanity right now. No, it's not perfect, but it's pretty darn good. Well, here are some of my favourite things about krakow: - The scenery 😍 everywhere you look there’s a stunning view, or a street or building that looks like it’s been plucked straight from a fairytale. There are photo opportunities for days! - The food! There’s really tasty Vegan food all over the city (I highly recommend a seitan burger from Krowarzywa) And don’t even get me started on pierogi 😍 - The history: Poland, and Krakow especially, has such an important history and I think everyone who goes there should take a bit of time out to learn something, especially about the large Jewish heritage of the city. - The people - the locals in Krakow were genuinely some of the friendliest people I’ve met on any of my solo travels Have you ever been to Krakow?
