BEER OF THE WEEK ALERT! Maz has picked @pressuredropbrw WU GANG CHOPS THE TREE. Named after the legend of the magical Osmanthus tree that when chopped down would grant you immortality. The only problem is this tree would immediately regrow, damning Wu Gang to an endless toil. We can’t promise drinking this beer will lead to your own immortality but we won’t rule it out either. This 3.8% Hefeweizen is brewed with foraged herbs that create floral aromas and warm grassy notes! Wu Gang was the third brew Pressure Drop ever made so this beer really is an OG. 📍Frome - The Old Bath Arms 💰 Total: around £15-20pp If you are looking for a hearty Sunday roast after walking around @thefromeindependent market, @obafrome has some great options - beef, pork, chicken, combo, vegetarian, vegan… guaranteed to have something for everyone. I haven’t had a Sunday roast in ages and this time I went for the vegetarian soya loaf roast (£15.95). All the roasts came with roasted potatoes, parsnips, carrots, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, as well as sharing portions of butternut squash mash, cauliflower cheese and sauteed greens. The portions were hearty and the food certainly had a homely feel to it. The soya loaf was pleasant, quite herby though slightly over-seasoned for my liking. Lovely vegetarian gravy, and I do appreciate the fact that they catered for different dietary requirements on all fronts, not just swapping out the meat but also preparing vegan versions for ALL the trimmings. I particularly enjoyed the cauliflower cheese and the Yorkshire pudding was also top-notch, crispy around the edges and fluffy in the centre. Overall a solid roast from a historic establishment in Frome! Managed to barge my way into Frome Art Trail with an impromptu exhibition at The Crown Inn, Keyford. We got it all set up just in time for last nights cracking live music event. An evening of power and soul from Kate Mills Well worth popping in for great atmosphere, fine cocktails and the best brunch in town. Sadly, this inn is one of the 43 pre-1774 pubs (we know because it's on the 1774 map of Frome) that didn't survive to the present day. Why 'packhorse'? Well this was a pub at which packhorses were unloaded then watered after arriving in town. Why here? Because there was a large coal merchant's yard around the back and the cargo they carried was coal from Radstock, Mells and surrounding areas.
