Excited to share with y’all the lovely huswif that I received from my swap partner Dana @textilemedley for the #needlecaseswap2024cc. I personally have never heard of the term huswif or hussif until this swap! ☺️ For those of you who don’t know as well, it’s an 18th-century term for a basic sewing kit. Alternatively Huswif is a form of ‘housewife’ which originally meant a sewing-case. They are usually made of a long strip of fabric 6” to 8” wide with pockets sewn across the width of fabric to hold sewing tools (slide to see). Can you tell that I did my homework…lol! 😂 Needless to say, I’m completely in love with the one Dana made for me! Her appliqué and hand stitching is absolutely beautiful!!! Love the turn-of-the-century prints as well! Can’t thank you enough Dana for making me this beautiful sewing case, along with all the little extras tucked inside. It will definitely get a lot of use! This is a excessively rare find, a Bar shot which is a type of projectile shot from a Cannon. Bar shot was used at close range to slash through the rigging and sails of an enemy ship. The weight on either end of the bar would cause the whole thing to partially rotate after it was fired out of a cannon, inflicting maximum damage on sails and masts. Limberjack toys have been around for centuries and are believed to have originated in Europe during the 16th century. These toys were used by street performers who played music while another performer would sit on one end of a board and hold the doll over the other end. Landskrona castle, the Citadel, was built in 1549-1559 by Christian III of Denmark. The fortress offers a fascinating history. During the 1660s, the Citadel was developed into the most modern fortress in the Nordic region. It is the only preserved landfall fortress in Sweden and it has been a listed and protected building since 1935. From the early 18th century, the fortress was used as a prison; in 1827, it became a prison for those serving life sentences. During the 20th century, it served as a forced labour facility for women until 1940. Today, the Citadel area is a lovely, green place to hang out. It offers a large playground, fishing in the moat, and a café. A series of farmsteads from the Netherlands Open Air Museum ranging in date from the early 16th century to the early 19th century. All of these buildings once stood in the Dutch countryside and were moved and reassembled here after 1912 to preserve them. I was struck to see the simplicity in which farm workers lived in rural Holland as recently as the early 20th century with interiors of c.1900 reminding me of those painted during the Dutch Golden Age nearly 300 years earlier. My favourite house was the blue one which dates from the early 1700s and whose occupants shared the house with their cattle. Es uno de esos personajes cuya historia y personalidad se han creado a través de sus experiencias. Nacido en el seno de una familia de alta alcurnia, fue ministro de Comercio, cargo que acabó enviándole directamente a galeras como castigo por algunos... asuntos. Durante ese tiempo, su vida dio un giro repentino y entre una cosa y otra, que probablemente sean historias para otro día, acabó apoderándose de la Guillotine d'Or... y bueno, lo que ocurra en ese barco queda entre su tripulación y el mar. Pronto podré interpretar a este personaje en @septimus_larp atendiendo las burocracias de Quartus y haciendo crecer el Emporio Guillotine d'Or, que será administrado por la Sra. Crawford (@vryla) 🇬🇧 Bastien Chevalle was born out of a desire to create a different pirate, and obviously I based it on one of the supporting characters from Pirates of the Caribbean. He is one of those characters whose story and personality has been created through his experiences. Born into a high-born family, he served as minister of commerce, a position that ended up sending him straight to the galleys as punishment for some... affairs. During that time, his life took a sudden turn and between one thing and another, which are probably stories for another day, he ended up taking possession of the Guillotine d'Or... and well, what happens on that ship remains between its crew and the sea. Soon I will be able to play this character in @septimus_larp attending to the bureaucracies of Quartus and growing the Guillotine d'Or Emporium, which will be run by Ms. Crawford (@vryla). . A fine quality early 18th Century Walnut Bureau of small proportions having superb colour and originality. A rare feature is the fluted canted corners which lighten the appearance of the piece. Retaining the original pierced brass handles and all but one of the original locks. Remarkably the front two feet are original with great skin and patination, the back two replaced many years ago. The interior is especially good having projecting figured Walnut Columns almost in the full round either side of the central door. fitted with pigeon holes with shaped frieze and small drawers retaining the original brass knobs. The drawer linings made in Oak are in good clean original condition throughout. Fitted with working keys for the fall and interior door. It is historically interesting to note the faded original label pinned to the underneath of the piece which probably has the name and address of the customer the Bureau was made for written in ink.
