I am so happy with my new business cards that just arrived in the mail! I had not used my old ones in years (thank you, pandemic) and when I dragged the old brown-and-mint cards out a few weekends ago I realized just how dated they were. So I hunkered down with #adobeillustrator and used my new #typographic logo. Too bad there's not a tactile component to instagram because the paper quality on these is great. I næste uge er det vinterferie og hvis I holder vinterferie i København kommer her en god ide til hvad I kan lave :-) @kunstglstrand har lige nu en super flot udstilling om den grafiske design duo @mmparisdotcom Der er masser af spræl og sjov i udstillingen, som slår sig løs og fylder en stor del af huset. @MMparis arbejder legende med grafisk design og varierer deres udtryk i det uendelige. Især typografisk er der gang i den og deres projekter er aldrig kedelige, kan jeg godt love for :-) I forbindelse med udstillingen og i anledning af vinterferien er der under overskriften ‘typografisk tivoli’ hele tre dages familie-workshop i kalenderen. Det er den 15.-17. feb. kl. 11-14. Jeg står for workshoppen alle tre dage og har i den seneste uge skitset på en masse ideer der alle kredser om at have det sjovt og lege med bogstavernes form. Vi skal folde origami-bogstaver, lave tattoos med pixels, sammensætte geometriske former til dekorative navne-uroer og et par andre ting som lige skal falde på plads inden tirsdag. Du kan tilmelde dig workshoppen via @kunstglstrand ‘s hjemmeside eller tage chancen og droppe forbi. Today is the birthday of the legendary film critic Roger Ebert who passed away in 2013. . Ebert wrote the introduction to The Best of Xero, a collection of Pat & Dick Lupoff's fanzine from the early 1960s, in 2004 The introduction, "How Propellor-Heads, BNFs, Sercon Geeks, Newbies, Recovering GAFIAtors and Kids in Basements Invented the World Wide Web, All Except for the Delivery System" was later republished in Asimov's Science Fiction. Ebert was also kind enough to let me republish some of his juvenilia, two poems written when he was still in his teens that had appeared in those early issues of Xero, including this little e. e. Cummings inspired piece. The presence of people who meaningfully connect with you has a direct link to mental health. . Isolation and lack of a community where you feel a sense of belonging are known factors in exacerbating addictions and slowing down wellness and recovery. (Whether that is a socially acceptable, or even praised, addiction is a whole other discussion for another day!) . This season of pandemic has been hard on everyone, especially members of marginalized communities. . I know of people who have achieved decades of sobriety to relapse in this season. . I hear those who are chronically ill, sharing that this sense of isolation and increased social disconnection is their daily reality, every single day of their lives (with or without pandemic). Their request: please don’t forget us when you return to your “normal” activities. . I know there are those who cannot grieve properly the death of loved ones (Covid or not) [And that’s not even acknowledging the awful reality that their loved ones may have died with minimal or no last meaningful contact with their family and friends.] . And then, there are the countless others who I have *not* heard or seen, because they are retreating and isolating out of precaution for their physical health… which is taking toll on their mental health. . . This is hard. Individually or collectively, this is really hard. . So I want to take this opportunity closing #WorldMentalHealthAwareness, to say: . You are loved. . You are not alone. . To everyone who reached out to me in the last few months while I was (and still am) cocooning socially, thank you. Even if I haven’t yet replied, please know your checking in on me means the world. . If you have the capacity to reach out and check on people who might be struggling and disappearing, please check in on them. And give them the space to respond or not. Even if they don’t, know that it matters to them. . If you don’t have the capacity to reach out to check on others. It’s 200% ok to do what you need to do to refill your tank. If you need an encouraging word or a prayer, my DMs are open. . If someone comes to mind, feel free to send or tag them, (bonus: tell them why you’re thankful for them).

This was one of my favourite editorial spreads to make. I was very inspired by Sofia Coppola’s version of Marie Antoinette. Super punk-y. Plus, I adore the coupe glass. Went out and bought a set right after making this. A much more enjoyable way of drinking champagne rather than those creepy 1980s champagne flutes. Such an uptight glass design.
