He’s off to another competition! One of the coolest parts about speedcubing (as I’m sure is similar with most “sports”), is the awesome network of friendships he has made across the world. Most are incredibly intelligent and talented young men. For graduation, I gave my son some money and told him he could spend the summer traveling and going to as many comps as he’d like to, within the budget (a nice real-life lesson on economics!) This guy has been able to stretch those funds more than I expected! Everywhere he goes, he knows someone he can stay and carpool with, often on college campuses. That’s pretty awesome and with todays social media, he’ll be able to maintain these connections for many years to come. Now, I’ve clearly trained him how to budget well, but the important question is…have I trained him to tell all his young-adult friends that his mother can help when they’re ready to buy their first house?! My oldest played his first high school football game last night and I couldn’t be more proud! He is going to the same high school I graduated from many many years ago and the nostalgia is real!! As I have a bunch of new followers, I think it’s time for a little bit more about me ... so here you go.. ♥️ What you may not know me... my real name is Jennifer.. as a child I was super sensitive and I would actually cry if people called me that. Everyone called me Jenny growing up. Today,I go by Jen. Don’t think I’ll cry today though if you call me Jennifer, but I might not respond (I’m so not a Jennifer - right?). I still am super sensitive even at 50 years old. That’s just part of who I am. I cry often. But I also have a lot of reasons to smile. I have 2 amazing kids, a wonderful husband and 2 cute little dogs. Being a mom is the best job ever (and the hardest) and when asked what I wanted to do when I was a kid I said be a mom. I most recently decided I wanted to share my story to help others. I have been appearing as a guest on various podcasts. In the past 6 months, I have been on about 12 different ones. Sooo...Welcome fellow c/o 2027 Parents & brand new Gators! As a 4th generation Gainesville native who bleeds orange & blue, I thought I knew it all. But I just attended Preview with my incoming freshie (now I'll have TWO kids @UF!) and wow: info overload! Back when my first Gator settled into the dorm, I wanted a special care package delivered to convey "You got this, you rock, we love you!" but the only options were cupcakes/cookies/flowers. (none of that would excite my kid). So I reflected upon my decades of corporate gift basket design and stuffed a colorful box with favorite treats, healthy snacks, comfort items, and goofy novelties. I topped it with obnoxious streamers/ribbons & a card with a supportive message. It was a hit, and the u-Rok-Box was born! Since then, I've created & hand-delivered nearly 500 custom uRokBox's to joyfully connect students with their families, for occasions like birthdays, get well, miss you, congrats, Greek Life milestones, first___holiday away from home, etc. It's an honor and a privilege! One of the reasons I chose the Tampa area when moving to Florida was because UF had a paleontology program that I thought my dinosaur-loving son could eventually go to without having to move far away.
