The English and Media Centre are running two online teacher sharing events for teachers delivering the NEA for AL and GCSE Media Studies for assessment in 2025. The briefs come out TODAY and the event is on March 23rd. If you are struggling to get your head around the different briefs available or want to see how other people are planning to approach the NEA (for examination in 2025) this is a chance to come together with other teachers to discuss approaches to the tasks and begin planning. We’re aware that many Media teachers work alone or in small departments so this is a great opportunity to collaborate and share good practice over Zoom. We will also be sharing some of our thoughts and ideas related to the briefs. A full house last Friday for April and Claire's Starting to Teach A Level Media Studies course. A really fun and productive day with outstanding contributions from the attendees who felt like they were already living and breathing #MediaStudies. 👉 We did some low-stakes practicals, got our heads around 'mythologies' through the use of Nirvana tees and the LGBTQ+ rainbow. Explored Baudrillard through Matt Hancock's Tik Tok and pumpkin-spiced lattes. Applied Jenkins to Barbie memes. Looked at gender representations in the Black Widow marketing campaign and had fun watching a bit of Black Pink's carpool Karaoke 'in adjacence' with The Specials' Ghost Town. We got some absolutely lovely feedback 🙏: 'I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Both presenters were equally knowledgeable and the content was genuinely useful as there were practical examples and ideas for use in the classroom. A genuine variety of what attendees were doing too which was refreshing.' 'Will really impact my teaching.'
