This is a very well made, well produced and well presented series. Some well known crimes, one or two perhaps not as famous, I was definitely aware of both thr Deli and Pilmar cases, each episode though, has something to offer. It's a fascinating insight into how much The Police invest in their cases. Also, it's interesting to see the crossovers since it covers a number of infamous New York cases through the eyes of the Detectives, Prosecutors, and witnesses to the crime. Overall, it's worth seeing if you're into the genre. The detectives and family members detail the events, scars and tragedies of several murders, crimes that took place across various parts of New York. This show is grounded, nothing is sensationalised or over dramatised. You get a good sense of the personal stake the police investigators and Prosecutors take in all those cases. It's an anthology series that very cleverly goes backwards and forwards in time utilising a lot of the main detectives and law enforcement officers. It's chilling, disturbing, jaw dropping, even frustrating at times you ride a whole rolercoaster of emotions with each case. My heart goes to all the victims and families, it's such a horrible tragedy and I hope they're fine. 🍿 MOVIE 🍿 Le mangeur d'âmes By Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo Seen on April 28th, 2024 My advice: 🎬🎬🎬🎬 If I tell you: french genre film , thriller movie, Virginie Ledoyen: a priori this is not really thrilling and you would want to go your own way ( at least for french people ahah ) . Stop ! Leave a chance to this movie because it is quite good,worthy of a Frank Thilliez or Bernard Minier 's story adaptation in my opinion. Policeman Franck De Rolan, is searching for 3 kidnapped children. His investigation is leading him to a cottage where a double murder just happened. He teams up with Elisabeth Guardiano, a diligent police officer to lead the criminal investigations. It will plunge them into a hell of a spiral .... The thing I like best is that the story is based upon a local legend : le mangeur d'âmes or soul eater. It gives thickness to the narrative and a little fantasy side that is quite good. It is original and we want more genre films like this made by french people. Then I am not particularly convinced by the actor's performance but they do the job. The scenario is good and progressive, written by four hands. It is the adaptation of the book bearing the same name. This is not the first movie of Maury and Bustillo but it gives me the envy to investigate more on this side. Here, there is nothing spectacular or no exotic plans but an honest performance and a very nice proposal that needs to be enlightened. ⭐UN MOIS UNE ACTRICE PRÉFÉRÉE ⭐ Pour ce nouveau rendez-vous de ma série Un mois une actrice préférée, j'avais envie de mettre à l'honneur une actrice suédoise qui s'est rapidement imposée sur nos écrans : Alicia Vikander ! 😃 J'ai vu peu de ses films en comparaison des autres actrices dont je vais vous parler, mais cela a suffit pour qu'Alicia Vikander me touche grâce à son talent. Je l'ai d'abord vue dans le Anna Karenine de Joe Wright où elle joue le rôle de Kitty. Je n'ai pas revu le film depuis longtemps donc un revisionnage s'impose, mais je crois me rappeler avoir beaucoup aimé son personnage et la douceur qu'elle dégageait. Puis je l'ai vue dans le dernier Tomb Raider, adaptation du jeu vidéo "reboot" qui ne m'avait pas convaincue. Au début, j'ai eu du mal à considérer Alicia Vikander capable de marcher sur les traces d'Angelina Jolie. Puis j'ai vu le film et j'ai été agréablement surprise. Certes, la Lara Croft originale aura toujours ma préférence, mais j'ai trouvé Alicia Vikander excellente dans cette nouvelle interprétation de l'héroïne. Sans parler du fait que, tout comme Angelina Jolie avant elle, elle a donné de sa personne pour les scènes d'action et sa transformation physique est évidente ! 💪🏻 Ensuite j'ai regardé Une vie entre deux océans et c'est là que j'ai eu un véritable coup de coeur, à la fois pour le film mais aussi pour Alicia Vikander ❤️ Son personnage est très émouvant, et en même temps, on ne peut pas approuver complètement ce qu'elle fait... J'avais fait une chronique sur ce très beau film absolument bouleversant, tout comme l'interprétation de ses acteurs ❤️ Puis je l'ai découverte dans le rôle de Vera Brittain dans le très touchant Mémoires de jeunesse, où elle m'a bluffée par la justesse de ses émotions ! - Herr Doktor, mein Schädel brennt höllisch! - Ghost Rider (2007) Während ich mit dem Gedanken spiele eine kleine Lanze für diesen Neo-Western-Comic-Film zu brechen, kommen mir immer wieder diese schlechten Computereffekte ins Hirn zurück und meine Gedanken kreisen nun um Terpentin und Streichholz, was sich beides auf meinem Haupte vermählen sollte um dieser Farce ein Ende zu bereiten. Ghost Rider ist und bleibt ein schlechter Film, der sich zwar beim Western-Genre bedient, dies jedoch nicht konsequent umzusetzten weiss. Ein wenig Härte und Schmutz wäre auch nicht verkehrt gewesen. Ja, Nick Cage feuert wie immer aus allen Rohren des Wahnsinns, Sam Elliot ist ein cooler Cowboy, Eva Mendez sieht gut aus und all das hat zumindest etwas, aber der Rest ist pure Grütze. Zum Glück nimmt sich der Film nicht allzu ernst, soll eben ein Film über eine Comicreihe mit Skelettbiker aus der Hölle sein, was solls. Das ist auch nicht weiter schlimm, die Effekte jedoch sind es dafür umso mehr. Der Schädel wirkt wie aus einem Handygame, die Dämonenfratzen schreien Uwe-Boll-Produktion und das Höllenmoped wirkt sehr lächerlich. LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL – La originalidad es algo que valoro bastante en el terror… yo no busco asustarme con las películas, sé que no lo hare y sé que muy pocas han logrado hacerlo, lo que busco en una película del género es ver como utiliza sus recursos para contar historias innovadoras a partir de narrativas trilladas. El cine debe ser experimental e innovador, pero el terror es el género que más se presta para lo “campy” y para la experimentación con las ideas, la forma y la ejecución, y a pesar de que LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL haya sido víctima de altas expectativas, considero que es un perfecto ejemplo de cómo ideas innovadoras pueden convertir un proyecto pequeño en algo único. La película tardo en gustarme y a pesar de que tenía un formato entretenido con la mezcla del found footge y el metraje televisivo perdido, creo que quedo un poco corta en su desarrollo y al no saber cómo aterrizar de forma sensata ideas originales; pero esa estética setentera, su comedia negra bastante cínica y el contexto caótico del set de un talk show conducido por un ególatra y extraordinario David Dastmalchian hacen de esta película un cálido y divertido tentempié para los amantes del horror más campy. Perfectamente pudo caber como un segmento de Creepshow. Lamentablemente la originalidad de LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL va a quedar siempre opacada por el indebido uso de AI en la película y al ser yo alguien que trabaja muy de cerca con el diseño gráfico, el uso del AI en este aspecto me parece deplorable, inexcusable y fácilmente evitable, pero demeritar completamente una película independiente y querer boicotearla quitándole importancia al trabajo de tantos profesionales detrás de su realización me parece que está mal. En fin, cada uno está libre de juzgar una película como le plazca y capaz al ver la película terminas odiándola, pero lo importante es verla por ti mismo y juzgarla desde una perspectiva propia. — ‘Late Night with the Devil’ de Cameron y Colin Cairnes, 2024.

I have just got back from seeing Challengers and i might be in the minority with this but i found it a overhyped disappointment! I thought the cinematography was fantastic and how they shot the tennis matches was really creative. The soundtrack was a lot of fun, with a good contrast between the 2 lead male characters. The character background was strong. The chemistry between the cast was great with an incredible performance from Zendaya who really holds this film together. The dialogue was fantastic with some clever humour, and i thought the film built tension well. However, the film was incredibly repetitive and felt like it stalled and didn’t manage to add layers to its plot. The pacing was incredibly jarring in places, the use of flashbacks was overdone and often came at the most random points. I found the characters to all be incredibly unlikeable and childish. The conflict felt so underdeveloped and lacked any depth, instead it just felt childish and tedious. The second half was very disappointing and the film really lost its steam, plus the ending was random and felt really out of place and badly executed. Overall, challengers is beautifully shot, has elements of great potential and is held together by the powerhouse that is Zendaya. But honestly this film was a underdeveloped, messy and poorly written drama that slowly lost steam after the first hour. Yesterday I rewatched Priscilla and wow what a film. While Elvis (2022) was amazing this movie shows a whole different side to Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s relationship. This film is based of Priscilla’s book “Elvis and Me” and both the book and movie are heavy, especially as a woman watching and reading. While Priscilla’s youth was mostly overshadowed by Elvis’ fame, I’m relieved that she finally found herself and that’s apparent in this movie. Sofia Coppola blows me away again 🩶 Book review coming soon!
