Did you know there is a waterfall on the Biltmore Estate? _ The waterfall is a bit of a hidden gem. If you aren't looking for it you may just walk right over it. I mean literally walk right over it! _ Frederick Law Olmsted was the estate's landscape architect that designed the boat house and bridge over the waterfall. It is a very pretty sight when the trees are in full color, but right now it is just a tad lack luster. _ The waterfall is located at the far end of the Bass Pond. There are a couple of different was to reach the waterfall. You can walk to the Bass Pond from the end of the formal gardens. There is a trail that will lead you to the base of the falls. The other option to see the waterfall is to park along the side of the rode on one of the pull outs. Either way you chose is worth the trip. _ If you are up for the day you will need a ticket just to get on the grounds. If you have purchased a ticket to visit the house you are able to walk the grounds as well. Ticket prices change so make sure to check the website before you go.

Want to find a hidden waterfall right in your backyard? _ This was once part of Reynolda Gardens, but now it is part of a greenway trail between Reynolda Village and Wake Forest University. The thing is you can walk right past or should I say over and never know it even exists. _ Just goes to show that we just need to slow down and take in everything around us and possibly even below us. I can't wait to go back in Spring and Summer when things are in bloom and bring even more life to this tucked away spot. _

After missing the Aurora the first time this year, we decided that we would take the hour and 15 min ride to the north facing spot we had picked out back in April on Sunday night. Knowing we both had to be up and go to work on Monday morning our hopes were high. I am glad to say that we was not disappointed. As the glow of the aurora almost collides with the milkyway. Happy Friday!! Are you ready for the weekend?? Show me some love if you are!! _ On Monday the Mountain you see behind me had snow! Can you believe it? I can't remember a time when this has happened so early. I am guessing that it has, though. _ This weekend I am very hopeful that I am getting to head up to the mountains! With any luck there will be plenty of vibrant leaves to see! I had hoped to get up there last weekend and the weather just wasn't on my side. _ Our plan is to get up to the mountains bright and early before too many people wake up and join us. Plus my sweet baby Rey (my almost 7 month old puppy) is traveling with us too! It has been a bit since we have taken her to the mountains and it is time she returned. "The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of your mind? unknown _ I love reflections! It is the way the water captures reality. This was take at sunrise with the morning light peaking through and around the trees, and over the bridge. While the water was moving rather swiftly there wasn't a ripple to be found. _ As the morning went along the clouds began to appear in the water and with a slightly red glow of the morning sun. With the sun's light and the reflection of the trees and clouds made for the perfect view. _

Double tap if you are ready for the cooler weather and the changing leaves!! _ I love Spring and Summer, but fall may be my absolute favorite season. I love the cooler weather which normally means more time outside and on the trails. Many look at fall as a death season because of the leaves fall from the trees. I don't see it that way. _ As the leaves change from the bright greens to the yellow, oranges and reds the world becomes a brighter place and more vibrant. This is what I see in the fall which takes me into the winter and Christmas season. _ If you live here in NC the first day of fall will most likely be on the rainy side, but cooler. if you happen to be one of the fortunate ones and not have any rain get outside and enjoy the weather. _
It is wonderous waterfall Wednesday!!! Double tap if you love waterfalls! _ When given the time I like to break down a waterfall into different parts. It helps me appreciate what makes the waterfall as a whole so beautiful. Even when I have visited the waterfall before I see something new every time. _ This one I have been visiting since I was young and each time is unique and the waterfall is different. I love the waterfall as a whole, but this part speaks to me more. I like the way the water flows over the rocks here. In places the rock separates the water flow into different streams that comes back together before crashing into the pool at the bottom. If you look closely you can see very small streams moving over and around the rock. Nature is incredible and creates amazing beauty. _

This also includes kayaking, biking, mountain biking and even trails that are for various levels of physical disability. _ This weekend head outside and find a trial!!
Worry free Wednesday! What's the point of worry except that it gives you something to do, but never gets you anywhere. _ We are all guilty of worrying over something, some worry more than others. Some folks have to worry over something all the time. Personally, I couldn't imagine worrying all the time. _ Have you ever thought about how to help yourself keep from worrying and stressing all the time? If you have what have you come up with to help cope? For me nature is my coping mechanism. _ Whether I am hiking, going for a walk or just sitting outside I can let my guard down and start to relax. I can let me worry and stress float away on a cloud or over a waterfall. But when I can't get outside having nature indoors helps me escape. _ If nature helps you get away and let the stress and worry go to you have nature indoors to help you when getting outside isn't possible?

How about a waterfall Wednesday!! _ Welcome to Glassmine Falls. This waterfall can be seen from an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway just south of Mt. Mitchell. Here it is difficult to see due to the distance between the falls and the overlook, but if there hasn't been any rain recently I doubt you will see it at all. _ This is a very narrow waterfall that cascades over a cliff and is roughly 800 feet tall. At the overlook you most likely are only seeing about a 200 foot drop. This is not a waterfall that you can hike to either. - I had visited this location about two weeks before and there may have been a slight trickle. Saturday when I was there there had been a good rain and you could get a decent view of the falls. As with any waterfall, they are always better after a good rain.

I don't mind warm weather, but when it is so hot it is just miserable. So, this weekend I am heading to the mountains on Saturday and hopefully it will be cooler up there. Right now it looks like a a tornado has moved through. _ It wasn't exactly a tornado, but more like a puppy. Miss Rey gets into everything and I mean everything! The mess she didn't make was made by all the stuff that has gotten stuck in there. Plus add in the couple of photography projects that I have done and still have parts of the set up sitting out doesn't help either. _ It is going to be way to hot to do much outside, so, being inside cleaning won't be all that bad. Happy Wednesday! It is a lovely baby waterfall kind of day! _ This cutie little waterfall was just up a path from a roadside waterfall. There is nothing big about it visually, but the sound of the water flowing over the rocks was oh so lovely. The water flowed over this little ledge and down the stream over a few more rocks and then down to the roadside falls that went under the road. _ When I arrived at the roadside there was a family with their pups resting on a very large flat rock beside the stream. How, perfect was that!!! _ I love finding special places like this and it is even more special when I see others enjoying what nature has to offer!
Yesterday I talked about going to new places; places you have never been before. Let's talk it bit more about that today. _ On the trip my sisters and I went on back in March it was about going places my middle sister had never been and it just happened that I hadn't been to most of them either. _ We were in search of a certain waterfall and we stumbled upon this one that was literally roadside. It was absolutely beautiful and was very loud. Sadly it was on private property and we weren't able to get any closer than this. Trust me, I wanted a much better view so I could capture its full beauty. - My point is had we not be looking for a particular waterfall that we had never seen before we may not have found this one. While I love traveling my own state and capturing places I haven't been, traveling to new places is the absolute best! _ So, tell me what is one place new that you can go visit within the next month?

I have been excepted into Who's Who in America! I was accepted back in college for my academics, but this is so much bigger. _ There is a process you have to go through that begins with a nomination and then an interview process which was extensive. To be included you have to be seen as having outstanding achievement in your field and made contributions to society as a whole. I can't tell you how good this made me feel to be selected!!! I received my plaque this week and just had to share with you guys!!! _ I hope you guys have a great weekend!! Catch you next week!!
It is a wonderous waterfall Wednesday!!! _ This past weekend I got a lovely surprise! When I dropped my hubby off with his hiking partners there was a cute little roadside waterfall! I had driven by it before, but I have never seen it; there are always cars parked in front of it since the trail head is beside of it. _ It doesn't look very impressive, but the sound was so sweet. I am sure if there had just been a good rain it would have sound that much nicer! _ I love getting little surprises like this!!

Monday started out learning of a death of a dear colleague. He died from complication from cancer at a young age of 60. It has been a roller coaster of emotions this week. _ This weekend I'm not exactly sure what I am going to be doing. I would love to be back on the beach again, unless it is raining - I have had my fill of rain this week. The only thing I know is that I will either be heading back to the mountains or staying home and doing some major cleaning. Welcome to waterfall Wednesday! I thought I would go back a ways and pull one out of the archieves to share with you today. _ This one I took way back in 2016 from a trip my husband I had taken in the NC mountains. It seems like an eternity ago that I took this. One thing I know for sure is that my work has change significantly since then. _ One other thing I know is this waterfall has always been very beautiful and the landscape has changed a bit around the waterfall. _ I love looking back at photos that I have taken in the past; it allows me to seem just how much I have grown over the years. I have gone from being a simple hobbist to a professional selling my work for others to enjoy. It just goes to show that you never know just how far you can go. I can't wait to see how much more growth is to come!

Happy Friday! Double tap if you're ready for the weekend!!! _ I for one am very ready. My hubby and I are heading to the mountains on Saturday. It will be great to get back to my happy place. Hubby is going to hike about 12 miles on the Mountains-to-the Sea trail and I will be off on my own doing my thing. We will be taking our new puppy with us, so it should be an interesting trip. _ Normally I am going on a photo shoot walk about when he does his big hikes, but with the puppy in tow I am not sure just how much I will be doing. I am just praying the pup doesn't get car sick. The day we picked her up she got sick when we were almost home and it was pretty bad. So, with this rather long day and long trip for her I am really hoping things go well. _ Sunday is Father's Day! My youngest and I will be taking my hubby out to eat for Father's Day, but other than that I'm not sure what he wants to do. Wednesday adventures! Welcome to the Neuse River! _ This isn't my adventure persay. This is my husband's adventure on the Mountains-to-the-Sea trail river edition. _ My husband and buddys were working on a 20 miles section on the Neuse River section in hopes of finishing it out in one day. The water was calm here at the starting point and by the looks of things it was going to be a great day on the water. _ Well, things took a turn for the worse and they only had 8 more miles to go. The current and wind switched directions and they were working against it every step of the way. The poor guys went from 3 miles an hour to 1 mile per hour. This is the way nature works. She is unpredictable and not always kind. _ It is moments like this that you want to make sure you capture to help preserve the memories of the trip. So wether you hire a professional like me or just take the photos yourself make sure you capture the moment!
Happy Friday!!! Double tap if you're ready for the weekend!! _ This past weekend I was down on the east coast in New Bern, Havlock, and Emerald Isle. I know that may sound like a lot if you aren't familiar with the area, but it all is within about a 30 minute drive. _ Hubby was kayaking on the Neuse River with a couple of friends and I was going on nature walks. Just a fair warning if you are heading that way; use bug spray. I used it and still got bitten several times - all where I didn't spray ugh. Other than the bug bites I totally enjoyed myself! _ Being out by myself felt good and I took things at my own pace. I took in everything I could around me. I saw some very small spores, mushrooms, squirels galor and some very cool cypress trees. It was absolutely what I needed! _ This weekend I'm back home to try and get the house back in order again after being gone last weekend and get ready to go out of town next weekend. What exciting plans do you guys have? _

Instead of a waterfall today I want to share a river with you. _ I enjoy walking along the docks and boardwalks, looking at the boats and wondering how much something like these cost. "Fo a stream to become a waterfall, it needs to leave its comfort zone and fall from a height." Wildlife Zones _ Before a waterfall becomes a waterfall it is only a stream or river. The moment it takes the plunge over the rocky edge it becomes a beautiful waterfall. Full of power, beauty and creates the most incredible melodious sound. _ In order for it to become the waterfall it had to leave the comfort zone of the quiet and peaceful stream. _ How many times have we been afraid to take the plunge and not reach our potential? I know that I have been in the positon more times than I want to count. Now, that is different. In order to achieve my goals I have to set the fear aside and take the plunge. It is okay to have fear of a new adventure, just don't let the fear get in the way.

Do you ever watch the water along the side of a waterfall? _ I enjoy breaking down a waterfall into parts. Along the side the main portion of the falls is like a separate mini waterfall that broke off at the top and flows along the rock to rejoin the main portion of the waterfall. While it appears to completely separate, iook closely, there is water flowing over the the rocks between the two parts that are easily seen. _ The reason I like to exam waterfalls so closely is that there is always more than meets the eye. It takes the large portions and the smaller portions to create such a beutiful view and sound. _ Tell me what do you see?

I'm being followed by Indiana Jones!!! _ Only kidding! My husband wears a Tilley hat and with the sun behind us his shadow gave off an Indaina Jones vibe. At least I think so. _ It's funny how shadows give off exagerated views and impressions of something or someone else. We make shadow puppets for entertainment, but have you ever really looked at your own shadow? For me personally, I don't give it much thought most of the time. When I saw my husbands shadow I couldn't help but see that famous hat of Indiana Jones. _ While you are out and about this weekend pay attention to the shadows around you. The peace of nature flows into us like sunshine into trees. This is the sound of a waterfall. _ When on a waterfall hike I listen for the first sounds of the falls. With each step I listen for the sound to grow stronger. Then the all at once the sound is like thunder; a blanket of powerful yet soothing sensations. The once distant roar is now a symphony of water drops mingling together. _ The effect the waterfall's sound is tranquilizing. It creates a sense of awe and wonder while transporting you to a place of beauty and serenity. _ Nature is incredible!
Last Sunday we was driving the parkway from Asheville to Boone and came around a corner and saw this guy coiled yeah up in the the other lane was not sure if it had been hit yet or not. So we pulled off and walked back to it. Turned out it had been clipped very recently by a car. Happy Friday everyone! Double tap if you're ready for the weekend! _ There are several new folks around and I know it has been a bit since I have introduced myself. My name is Michelle and I am a nature and landscape photographer specializing in capturing North Caroline from the mountains to sea and everything in between. _ I love being outdoors and have always photographed anything and everything. I started out with an old 110 film camara (really dating myself here) and then graduated to a 35mm film camera. There is nothing like shooting with film. I first started with general sports photography, then lifestyle family photography, event and branding photography. You could say I had to try them all before I fell truly in love with what I was doing. It just made sense to find my niche in nature and landscape photography. It was where I felt the most comfortable and the most alive. _ Just as the pandemic started I made the full switch to nothing by landscape and nature. Not necessarily the best time for a business to make a switch. But here I am and going strong. _ In case you didn't know you can buy my prints from my website or any of the locations where my work is on exhibit (also listed on my website). My largest exhibit is currently at Milton Rhodes Center for the arts in Winston-Salem and there is only one more day to see it in person. If you can't make it there the gallery is also on my website. The wonderous waterfall. _ No matter the hike a beautiful water makes it worth the work to get there. Each one has its own sound and language. Each one sings its own song that brings us to visit. _ While the water may be flowing fast and pounding down on what is below it brings about a certain peace. I could sit and listen for hours. While listening I am studing the way the water flows. Does it go down multiple layers, is it more of a cascade, or does it come down in thin layers? Each part is unique and special. I love the little trickles that run along the edges. There are times those are my sole focus. _ What is your favorite part of a waterfall?

It is a wonderful Waterfall Wednesday! _ This little gem of a waterfall doesn't have a name that I am aware of. It is one that is just off the side of the road. I have passed this waterfall more times than I can count and have always wanted to stop, but for one reason or another I have never been able to. _ My luck finally changed! A couple of weeks ago I had passed it yet again on my way to Hanging Rock with my husband to the High Five Hike event. I had planned to got back out once my husband's hike got underway. The parking lot was so full I didn't want to leave and lose my parking spot. _ As luck would have it my hubby finished his 10 mile hike and I had enough time to go to the falls before touring the Vade Mecum property! One of the best things was that it had been raining a lot during the week and the night before so the flow was more beautiful than normal! _ I just love when things work out and you finally are able to doing something you have been trying to do for years! _
Went on a hunt for some lady slippers for a location that we found them in last year but had no luck but did come across a bunch of beautiful Trilliums and some irises. Finally, made it back to the Lower Falls and had it all to myself!! It was absolutely wonderful too! _ Hanging Rock was basically in my back yard growing up so being able to go back and have places to myself is a blast from the past. It is very hard to ever get a waterfall to yourself especially after a good rain. _ The trail isn't very long or difficult, but I was able to take my time and just meander down to the falls. The sound of the falls lured me in with every step as the sound of the water grew louder as I went. Normally this waterfall doesn't have a ton of water so this day was exceptional. It had a wonderful melodious sound singing very loud and clear for all to hear. I think I had it to myself for at least 30 minutes. Honestly, I hope my next waterfall visit is just as good.

We finally visited the @conesteepreserve and it did not disappoint. It’s an absolutely gorgeous place and full of wildlife. We did 4 miles with many more trails we’ll have to go back to visit. The highlight was seeing a blue heron fly in and feed her babies atop the nest! The baby goslings were a close second!!
Wow it's already Friday! Double tap if you're ready for the weekend! _ I don't know about you, but it has been a busy week. The best part of the week was wa the opening reception for the Artist Spotlight exhibit that I am part of. It was an incredible evening. _ It was very enjoyable talking with art patrans and artists alike. It was great to hear people connecting with my work like I had hoped they would. It means so much when all the work that has been put into creating an art piece and it creates emotion and meaning to others that are viewing it. _ One thing is for sure Tuesday night has inspired me and I am ready to get out and create something new! _ You guys have a great weekend!
Not a big waterfall today, but instead a lovely casscade! _ My sisters and I were driving along the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway in South Carolina a few weeks back and saw a roadside park. It was a very neat little stop we stumbled upon. _ The park has a staircase that takes you down to the water which is Little Eastatoee Creek. There is a lot of flat rock that the water weaves itself over and around creating lovely cascades along the way. They say that in the summer folks will slide down the rocks like a waterslide into a wade pool. Now, I wouldn't have wanted to try that on the day we were there. We found several patches of ice along the rock and shore line. _ The big rock that looms overhead made for great shade which explains the ice we found. In the summer the shade probably feels amazing!

Can you believe it is Wednesday already? Views from my trip continue! _ This lovely waterfall is part of the Oconee Station State Historic Site in South Carolina. It was an easy hike that had great rewards. Since it was later in the day there weren't many people there which meant my sisters and I had it almost completely to ourselves. _ This waterfall is 60 feet tall and the water just flows beautifully over the multilevel of rocks. The water continues to flow over the rocks and into more of a creek. It was very peaceful there and I would love to go back and spend more time just relaxing and enjoying the sound and the view.
