Die Fotografien des Künstlers Gheorghe Popa wirken beinahe wie Acrylschüttungen. Abstrakte Strukturen formen fließende Farbverläufe und bilden ästhetisch reizvolle Kompositionen. Erst auf den zweiten Blick erkennt man die Fotografien als Abbildungen der Natur: Wasserläufe, Baumkronen, kahle Sträucher. Die unnatürlich grellen Farben erscheinen in ihren starken Kontrasten dem Auge des Betrachters anziehend schön, verweisen jedoch zugleich auf ihren erschreckenden Hintergrund: Denn das, was wir sehen, ist eine Naturkatastrophe. Die fotografierten kaleidoskopischen Farbverläufe zeigen das Absetzbecken der rumänischen Kupfermine Rosia Poieni an dem Ort, an dem sich zuvor das Dorf Geamana befand. Gheorghe Popa beschreibt seine Erfahrungen mit diesem Ort wie folgt: »Ich besuchte Geamana zum ersten Mal im Jahr 2014. Ich hatte schon als Kind von diesem Ort gehört, da ich in der Nähe aufgewachsen bin, etwa eineinhalb Stunden entfernt. Mein erster Eindruck war unvergesslich. Ich war und bin immer noch verblüfft. Das Gebiet, in dem sich das Absetzbecken befindet, ist landschaftlich sehr reizvoll, da es von wunderschönen grünen Wäldern umgeben ist. Dieser Ort spielt mit allen Sinnen. Das leuchtende Grün mischt sich mit diesen verrückten Farben, und die frische Luft, an die man gewöhnt ist, hat einen chemischen Geruch. Roland Koenigsdorff »Grenzen des Wachstums?« Unser Wirtschaftssystem in seiner gegenwärtigen Form ist aus mehreren Gründen auf permanentes Wachstum angewiesen, zumindest auf die Erwartung einer solchen Entwicklung. Investiert wird z. B. nur, wenn auch eine Rendite zu erwarten ist, damit Risiko und eine Gewinnerwartung abgedeckt sind. Diese Erwartung und ihre wiederkehrende Erfüllung führten und führen zu der – historisch einmaligen – wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung, von der wir in Ländern wie Deutschland im Sinne von Wohlstand und stabilen sozialen Verhältnissen nahezu alle profitieren. Doch können wir immer so weiter machen? Was bedeutet eigentlich »Wirtschaftswachstum« und kann wachsender Wohlstand und Naturschutz miteinander gedacht werden?
