La capilla de Nuestra Señora, la girola de forma rectangular y las naves laterales del presbiterio se terminaron en 1225 y en 1258 se completaron la nave, el crucero y el coro. La nave fue completada en 1258, bajo la dirección de Nicholas de Eboraco (1247-1260), operis magister, y consagrada por el obispo Giles de Bridport (1256-1262). En 1320 se terminó de construir la torre y la aguja. Con una altura de 123 m, la aguja de la catedral de Salisbury es la más alta de toda Inglaterra. La espectacular fachada oeste estuvo acabada en 1265. En 1790, el arquitecto James Wyatt realizó algunos cambios significativos, y controvertidos, en la catedral. Estos cambios incluyeron la sustitución del coro original y la demolición de la torre de la campana que se alzaba una altura de 100 m en la zona noroeste del edificio principal. La catedral se encuentra aislada en una extensión de terreno de césped, lo que favorece la impresión del conjunto. La planta de la catedral tiene forma de doble cruz, con una longitud de 142 m, presenta tres naves cubiertas con arcos de crucería, las naves están limitadas por el transepto mayor, con una longitud de 61,5 m, cubierto también con arcos de crucería, tras el transepto mayor se encuentra el pequeño coro, el transepto menor, el presbiterio y la cabecera, que de una forma plana, habitual en la arquitectura gótica inglesa. Taken today, while on an excursion with @le_mie_cattedrali!⚜️ Laon Cathedral (la Notre-Dame de Laon), France. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, and with its lace-like and imposing architecture, it’s one of the first Gothic cathedrals in the world, and remains of the most important examples of early Gothic architecture. Its roots stretch back to the establishment of the Diocese of Laon in the late 5th century. Initially, a modest church likely graced the grounds, but tragedy struck in 1112 during the Easter Insurrection when a fire, ignited during a revolt against Bishop Gaudry, destroyed the church. As #Laon flourished economically and intellectually, and with the prominence of Anselm of Laon’s theological school, Laon was in need of a grand #cathedral. Construction on the current cathedral began in the 12th century. The product was a majestic testament to the burgeoning Gothic style which (after Noyon and Laon cathedrals were built) swept across Europe. By the early 13th century, #LaonCathedral stood tall, a marvel of pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and soaring spires. Throughout its existence, the Cathedral bore witness to the ebb and flow of history. The winds of change swept through during the #FrenchRevolution, stripping Laon of its bishopric status. Yet the cathedral endured, transitioning into a parish church under the Diocese of Soissons of 1802. : Eight hundred years have definitely taken their toll on the red sandstone structure of Dunblane Cathedral, but I love the extensive weathering the centuries have caused. The carvings around the entrance portals in particular start to take on a naturally eroded look that reminds me of the several months I’ve spent van-camping around the SW US, hiking amongst natural sandstone arches arches and cliff faces that look a lot like the clustered columns and archivolts here. In fact, I love Dunblane’s portals so much that I’m going to make you look at three sets of them over three days. First up is the modest north portal here, made especially naturalistic-looking by the mossy slate above (presumably the remains of a small canopy above the door). Vilniusi beszámoló folytatódik ☺️ A város egyik legikonikusabb épületegyüttese több részből áll: -Szent Anna templom, amely a litván nagyfejedelemség egyik fejedelmének feleségéről kapta a nevét. A gótikus téglaépítészet legszebb példája az országban. Sajnos ottjártamkor nem sikerült bejutni. -Szent Bernardine templom és monostor, melyet Assisi Szt. Ferenc és Sienai Szt. Bernardin tiszteletére szenteltek fel. Szinten gótikus stílusú, de megtalálhatók már a reneszánsz és a barokk stílusjegyei is. Mindkét templom római katolikus, a sok ortodox templom között. Építésük a 15. század végére tehető. Vilniusban rengeteg templom és kápolna található, kis túlzással minden sarkon. Nem is bírtam mindet végigjárni, de a Szent Anna a kiemelt látnivalók listáján szerepelt már az utazás tervezésekor is. A képek nem adják vissza, milyen gyönyörű épület.
