The AFBC Bible Conference is back this year with Dr Mark Zhakevich from Grace Community Church, CA. Dr. Zhakevich was born into a Christian family in the USSR, where it was illegal to be a Christian at the time. His parents were actively involved in the underground church there. His father was a pastor and his mother interpreted for foreign visitors. Dr. Zhakevich became a Christian at age nine, after hearing a sermon on heaven and hell. Shortly after his 10th birthday, he and his family immigrated to the United States and became members of Grace Community Church in Los Angeles. He now serves as Pastor of Administration, and a staff elder, as well as his notable contributions to the recent Legacy Standard Bible translation. Church, Entire Village ‘Erased’ In Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijani authorities: Between December 28, 2023 and April 4, 2024, St. John the Baptist church (S. Hovhannes Mkrtich), a 177 year old landmark in Shusha was destroyed. Built by Armenians in 1847, the church, a.k.a. Kanach Zham (green chapel), was damaged amidst the 2020 war. In the aftermath of the war, the Baku diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church laid claim to the building and pledged restoration. Nevertheless, the church is now gone. Images released recently by the monitoring group Caucasus Heritage Watch indicate that the Susa church, which was wrapped in scaffolding through much of its time under Azerbaijani control, was demolished in the winter of 2023-24 Two kilometers south of the erased church, satellite images released in April reveal that an entire village appears to have been razed to the ground. Di origine medievale, si può visitare liberamente dalle 08:00 del mattino entrando dalla porticina laterale... . La chiesa di S. Giorgio in Origgio è menzionata per la prima volta in un atto di vendita del 21 gennaio 1181. La sua probabile origine longobarda indicherebbe una fondazione risalente al VII secolo. . La sua costruzione risale all'epoca longobarda. Nel 1596 venne costruito il nuovo campanile, la sacrestia e l'abside. Venne inoltre ampliata in senso longitudinale, spostando quindi l'ingresso principale. Da ultimo si provvedette alla costruzione di una nuova cappella contenente un ciclo di affreschi sulla nascita di Cristo e un grande crocifisso ligneo del XV secolo. Και οι τέσσερις τρούλλοι του ναού έχουν οκταγωνικά τύμπανα με παράθυρα.Ενδιαφέροντα χαρακτηριστικά της κατασκευής είναι η απόλυτη συμμετρία των δύο κλιτών,η διακόσμηση των εξωτερικών όψεων με εφυαλωμένα πιάτα και των εσωτερικών με συνδυασμό ζωγραφικής-γύψινης διακόσμησης, επηρεασμένης από τη βαλκανική τέχνη του 18ου και 19ου αι...

Vilniusi beszámoló folytatódik ☺️ A város egyik legikonikusabb épületegyüttese több részből áll: -Szent Anna templom, amely a litván nagyfejedelemség egyik fejedelmének feleségéről kapta a nevét. A gótikus téglaépítészet legszebb példája az országban. Sajnos ottjártamkor nem sikerült bejutni. -Szent Bernardine templom és monostor, melyet Assisi Szt. Ferenc és Sienai Szt. Bernardin tiszteletére szenteltek fel. Szinten gótikus stílusú, de megtalálhatók már a reneszánsz és a barokk stílusjegyei is. Mindkét templom római katolikus, a sok ortodox templom között. Építésük a 15. század végére tehető. Vilniusban rengeteg templom és kápolna található, kis túlzással minden sarkon. Nem is bírtam mindet végigjárni, de a Szent Anna a kiemelt látnivalók listáján szerepelt már az utazás tervezésekor is. A képek nem adják vissza, milyen gyönyörű épület. St Peter's in Lilley, Hertfordshire. The original Norman Church on the site had fallen to ruin by 1870 so through a campaign of public subscription, this new Church was built, reusing original features as far as possible. It's a lovely mix of undressed Flint and Limestone Quoins. Bradford Cathedral, 1919 For many centuries, the building now known as Bradford Cathedral, and formally Bradford Parish Church, has stood on the hillside above the “broad ford” that gave Bradford its name. The site itself has been a place of Christian worship for nearly 1400 years, with the current church believed to be the third church in this location. Bradford Parish Church became a Cathedral in 1919, with the Bishop’s Throne- the “Cathedra”, which comes from a Latin word meaning “chair”- given by the people of Ripon diocese, from which the new diocese of Bradford was created. Plans were then made for major extensions to the building, but these were delayed by the outbreak of war. Bradford Cathedral continues to serve its flourishing congregation and to welcome visitors of all faiths and none to this hidden treasure at the heart of a busy, vibrant and growing city. The Parish Room has recently been refurbished and renamed as the de Lacy Centre, providing more room and facilities for groups who wish to meet on this site. Buonasera! Questa settimana vi presentiamo la chiesa di San Sebastiano, in cui è accolto uno dei più importanti cicli pittorici del Veronese. 📌 Il pittore molto dovette ai monaci Gerolamini dell’adiacente monastero, dai quali non solo ricevette commissioni, ma accoglienza e comprensione per la sua arte. I diversi cicli pittorici e gli affreschi, dipinti a più riprese tra il 1555 e il 1580, testimoniano il legame profondo tra il pittore e il monastero. La chiesa poi, in cui si trova il compendio dell’arte del Veronese, era destinata ad accogliere le spoglie dell’artista, che riposa oggi vicino all’organo, anch’esso da lui decorato. Al 1558 risalgono gli affreschi che decorano le pareti superiori della chiesa, i quali inscenano le Storie di San Sebastiano. Sebbene dipinte appena in un’estate, le scene sono rappresentate magistralmente: immerse in una luce cristallina, tinte di colori chiari e trasparenti, definite nelle forme, esse comunicano un’atmosfera sospesa e una spiritualità luminosa. Nel ciclo degli affreschi il maestro di Verona ha dato prova di ingegno scenografico. Nella parete di sinistra guardando l’altare vengono raffigurati tre arcieri: dei tre, uno tende l’arco verso l’alto, mentre gli altri due fissano lo sguardo sul Santo, dipinto nella parete antistante. Così, la traiettoria immaginaria della freccia attraversa la chiesa da parte a parte, unendo spazi reali e virtuali.
