Unpopular opinion: Ladurée’s macarons are underwhelming. 🫣 Anyone who knows me, knows that I LIVE for a good dessert, especially macarons 🥰 And when I got the opportunity to visit its place of origin, of course I wanted to try the BEST. Which everyone (including the bloggers and Google😂), said was Ladurée’s and Pierre Hermé. Long story short, when I got there, I waited in line for a solid 30 minutes, and selected 6 different flavors: caramel, raspberry, blackcurrant violet, passion fruit, pistachio, and vanilla. I can’t remember exactly how much we paid, but I’m pretty sure it was between 3-4$ per macaron 🤦🏾♀️ My verdict after trying each flavor ➡️ they were overly sweet, and nothing spectacular *womp womp* But I might’ve set myself up, because I tried Ladurée’s after already trying another French bakery’s. The macarons (and croissants) from the corner backery down the street from our apartment rental were easily the best things I ate in Paris — AND they were reasonably priced. AND without the long wait. Basically, what I took from that experience (which I honestly already knew), was that once something becomes “popular” and “touristy,” it’s probably best to avoid it. This produce market is filled with locally sourced goods and has been in the Musser family for multiple generations. While this particular location has been running for 46 years, Faith Musser told us that they have been in the business for over 50! Faith, another one of our local team members, recently made a trip to Michigan for a family wedding. Her kids want to own their own nursery one day so they like to make sure they visit as many nurseries as they can when they travel. On this trip, they stumbled on the amazing @geefarmsnursery in Stockbridge, Michigan's largest retail nursery (in one location), at a staggering 800 acres. This family owned farm has been in the Gee family since 1849, when they arrived in America, coming from England. Originating as an apple orchard, the Gee family would make use of the farm in many ways before they started the nursery side of things in the 1980s. They also raised long horn cattle and Shropshire sheep before switching to dairy production. The Gee family boasts three generations of the family still working on the farm these days. The present day operation includes 23 greenhouses, with 600 acres of trees and shrubs and another 200 acres of grain and vegetable production. There's also an open air market featuring gardening needs, fairy garden supplies and nearly year-round produce, home baked breads, cakes, pies, and donuts, along with jams, jellies and preserves to name a few. Faith and her boys really enjoyed their visit and actually brought several plants back to TN with them. They were excited to find the largest willow tree they'd ever seen in person and will definitely make another trip to Gee Farms the next time they visit Michigan.
