Day 5 on Uncorked & Cultivated WA Wine & Food Tour in the Porongurups at founder Angelo Diletti’s Castle Rock Estate, a specialist in riesling and pinot noirs; many types are made here. 23 Estate Riesling, pure free run grape juice, the purest of lemon zest fruit, and the most delicate riesling style in the entire Great Southern GI; 23 Skywalk is riesling pressings, the chewy part from the press, fuller weight and understandably drying; 23 A &W (Angelo & Wendy-owners), is whole bunch pressed riesling grapes for extra elegance; then 22 Diletti is the best juice fermented in 500 litre casks; decidedly fuller wine; all 11.8-12.0% alcohol. With a score of 96 points, it was also the highest ranked white wine of the competition. The Vivienne Chardonnay holds a special significance to Singlefile Wines. Named in honour of co-founder Vivienne Snowden, it is one of our flagship wines and this year reaches the milestone of 10 vintages produced. Chalari 2021 Shiraz Tempranillo Great Southern Unfined and unfiltered. A wine of minimal intervention from the pristine Frankland River🌿💦🐟 Dense in colour. The nose is perfumed. Rosewater, violet, dark red fruits. The palate is pretty and floral. The depth of Shiraz, the fragrance and mouthfeel of the Temp. It’s a beautiful and unique blend, done uniquely and beautiful. 🌱 Meet Kat 🌱 In 2020, looking for a change from her 20 year career as a professional photographer, Katrina returned home from the East Coast. She took a trip to her birthplace, Denmark and was offered a position at our Cellar Door. With her administration background, she soon began helping run our increasingly popular Wine Club. Kat tells us she is incredibly happy here, enjoying a stress-free lifestyle immersed in the vast natural beauty of the Great Southern. You're likely to spot her kayaking around the inlet, walking one of the many beaches at sunrise or sunset, and always, without fail, encouraging everyone to 'look at the light!' 💫 Kat's favourite drop is always evolving, her current go to is our 2021 Single Vineyard Grenache.

Ben Cane has extended the already outstanding range of wines since he and his partner took over Duke’s Vineyard (@dukesvineyard) at Porongurup in the WA Great Southern. The new releases add a super-dooper riesling on top of the famous Magpie Hill Reserve, and a superb Margaret River chardonnay (AUD $62), among other things. There’s also a cheaper AUD $38 WA chardonnay named M2. These are the first chardonnays ever issued under the Duke’s Vineyard label. Our Singlefile Single Vineyard Fumé Blanc is a unique and special wine with a distinct flavour profile. Fumé Blanc is a style of wine made from the sauvignon varietal where some portion of the wine has been fermented in barrel. The influence of oak from this partial barrel ferment introduces texture and a spicy complexity, resulting in a 'smoky sauvignon style'. Today, August 18th, marks Pinot Noir Day 🍷 Although Pinot Noir can be a tricky grape variety to grow, the cooler climate of the Great Southern Wine Region is well suited to the success of this elegant grape. Our Collector and Appreciator Wine Club members have exclusive access to our 2022 Singlefile Single Vineyard Porongurup Pinot Noir from the Misery Hill vineyard. Situated on the north east slopes of the Porongurup range and at 320m above sea level, it is one of the most elevated vineyard sites in Western Australia. Have you met Trix? Trix has been a part of our Singlefile family since 2011, back when the cellar door first opened. She claims she waited 16 years and 6 kids for this job opportunity to appear! Surrounded by beautiful wines, scenery and people she considers herself the lucky one 🍇 Inspired by this wonderful industry, Trix is expanding her knowledge of viticulture and oenology and is currently studying for her WSET Diploma in Wine. She is always happy to discuss the intricacies of the wine journey, the Great Southern region as a whole and if you really want to light her up simply mention the All Blacks! Her imagination and creativity extends to the Cellar door decor, where Trix takes advantage of the seasonal flowers from the garden. She was also responsible for the orchestration of the ever popular interactive experience, the 'Sensory Aroma' - a tool that allows you to experience and identify individual aromas found in wine. At the end of the day, you will find Trix sipping on a glass of Singlefile ‘Serendipity’ or Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon.
Swinney Grenache Frankland River 2021 It’s Grenache Jim, but not as we know it🖖 This ain’t no warm climate, confectionery, juby, little lolly monster. There is mineral, restraint, elegance and structure. Perfumed red and dark fruits, hints of rose petal sneaking out, and a background of light mocha 🥀 Silky and intriguing, earthy and lithe. It’s as good as the Great Southern gets, in moderation of course….
