My favorite kinds of pairings are #wineandbookpairings “James, A Novel” by Percival Everett follows the journey of Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” but through the perspective of Jim, the slave that accompanies Huck. Reading both books side by side was truly rewarding as I felt that I had developed more clarity while given the full picture. It’s as if a fog was lifted. In bookclub, we discussed how “James” should be required reading in schools, and I couldn’t agree more. For this book, I chose to pair EnRoute Brumaire Chardonnay, 2021. Brumaire refers to brume (French for fog) that is experienced in the vineyards of the Russian River Valley. As this book is about the perspective of the journey, I felt this wine was appropriate. Prevalent yet well balanced oak influence of vanilla and baking spices, lemon peel and peach blossom made for a complex wine I was happy to take a journey with while discussing such a great book. Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut🍾🔝⭐️doc Trento di @castelnoarna 🏆🙌🏻 Il vigneto di #chardonnay ha trent’anni ed è coltivato a pergola trentina, a corpo unico, attorno alle mura del Castello di Noarna. 🏰 In Trentino, alle porte della Vallagarina domina questo bellissimo castello con una storia affascinante che lo vede protagonista nelle diatribe tra Guelfi e Ghibellini e che, dopo essere appartenuto a varie famiglie nobili e reali dell’epoca, viene acquistato dalla famiglia Zani. Il terreno è calcareo, limoso, ricco di minerali (porfido, basalto, ardesia) e scheletro. Pigiatura soffice delle uve intere. Macerazione e fermentazione spontanea con lieviti indigeni. Non viene utilizzata solforosa sull’uva o nel mosto. La prima fermentazione e l’affinamento avvengono in acciaio. La fermentazione malolattica non viene controllata ma normalmente viene svolta completamente. Il tiraggio avviene la primavera successiva alla vendemmia mediante l’aggiunta di lieviti e zucchero biologici. Affina nelle segrete del castello per oltre trentasei mesi. Oggi lo abbiamo degustato dagli amici dell’ @osteria.del.centro di Comano. Lo chef patron @piero.roncoroni fa un incredibile lavoro di ricerca in profondità per sublimare l’essenza degli ortaggi da lui proposti. La carota, la costa, la verza o l’asparago diventano così protagonisti assoluti in un dialogo continuo di colori, sapori, temperature e consistenze. Heute gibt es noch mal Bubbles, diese Mal aus Italien. Es gibt Blanc de Blancs Spumante Metodo Classico Dosaggio Zero 2019 von Alessandra Divella. 100% Chardonnay aus Lagen um 400 Meter Höhe aus der Region Franciacorta. Spontan vergoren, teilweise im Barrique ausgebaut und 30 Monate auf der Feinhefe in der Flasche, ohne Dosage im September 2023 degorgiert. Der Wein kommt in einem mittleren Goldgelb ins Glas. In der Nase Hefe- und Brioche-Noten, dazu etwas Zitrus und nach dem Öffnen auch rauchige Noten. Am Gaumen eine feine Perlage und eine extrem frische Säure, dazu aber auch eine zarte Cremigkeit. Ebenfalls Noten von Hefe, Zitrus, Quitte und Apfel. First Bourgogne after a week in NYC: Mâcon-Vergisson This 2022 Mâcon-Vergisson Sur la Roche by @domaine_jacques_saumaize is from a chalky field high up the Vergisson hill. It is a lovely glass. Tasted blind you might have guessed a Pouilly-Fuissé from a well-known winemaker. While Jacques Saimaize is a renowned P-F producer, this is from a field near-, but not in the P-F appellation.
