What a day!! Started off with an early morning request for help with kittens born in a box in a North Bronx garage. (See cute last picture). We will head there first thing in a.m. to set up mama and four kittens in a large crate, thanks to a generous donor. And then the MTA/NYPD discussion on what constitutes trespassing 😳😳 and also what counts as an emergency in rescue… kittens on subway tracks. YES!! All three babies were rescued. But not mama 😢. Through diplomatic negotiations with helpful kitty-loving MTA workers, we figured out how we could set a trap for mama using one baby to lure her in. Our amazing rescue partner taught MTA person to set and place the trap (not safe for us to go down). He did great and we waited… She sniffed but didn’t go in. Sadly, due to lack of funding and almost zero ASPCA rescuer options for spay/neuter, mama will have to wait. We are so grateful to have a caring MTA team in this area. (Same station where Turnstile was found in subway car) #endoftheline Collaboration and #teamwork is the only way the #catcrisisnyc is ever going to even begin to be solved: cooperation and communication between rescuers and the city of NY. WE NEED HELP. Three kittens will be saved, however we saw FIVE unfixed cats on one block - which means there are at least 10/15 more we didn’t see. One is already pregnant. And anyone who isn’t will be soon. We need city help!! We need @aspca help!! We need your help to pay for vetting, and trapping, and transport, and gas, and equipment, and VET BILLS. This beautiful boy needs your help. Sweet Xavier was found hanging around our dumpster feeding station. He was doing ok at first but had low energy. Initial bloodwork was normal. His temperature spiked and we’ve taken him to the ER twice. He’s headed back to the emergency room once again with a temperature of 106.8 (Danger zone! Cats are normally 100-102). Isis is ADOPTED!! Remember this girl? Our first rescue of 2023? She was pregnant and seemed friendly at first. However, as her hormones settled, she quickly showed us she was more of a “halfway cat,” meaning she had potential for indoor life, but it would take a special and patient foster to care for her. Had it not been so bitter cold that week, she would have been released back to her colony. At the last minute, a wonderful foster offered to take her in. And as you can see from the color coordination with the furniture, it was a match meant to be!!! We are so happy for Isis. She’s slowly coming to accept that humans are kinda ok after all.
