Life hasn’t been easy for me lately. Losing my soul dog was like losing a part of my soul and my life will be forever changed. The heartache was unbearable at times and I know grief takes over. In honor of our rescue Patch, we are fostering another pittie (which is how we got our boy) This is Auggie (August) you can find him on Greenville County Animal Care website listed as Tate. He is a wonderful dog. He doesn’t leave my side and is my protector. I almost feel like he knows I’m struggling with sorrow. We don’t know all of Auggie’s story but he came in the shelter with a broken leg and tail. His left leg had to be amputated. He gets around really well and has adjusted to the change. He is potty trained with lots of potty breaks, crate trained, loves kids and people, does good with dogs after a slow introduction, loves to snuggle, and does great on a leash. Auggie is 5 months old so he has puppy energy and is mouthy. I am working on his manners. Beau is adopted! 🥳 As soon as we got this boy and got a taste of his personality, we knew we weren’t gonna have him for long. Besides being a beautiful blue-eyed Ragdoll, he is confident, friendly and a darling full of love. All he wants to do is to be around us and get pet all day, and he meows sadly whenever we have to leave him behind. We’re not surprised that Beau was very popular and received 1-2 new applications everyday since he was posted on the website on Monday. We’re very happy that he went home with a wonderful couple who are lifelong cat people and previous GMS adopters. They are at home a lot and have 4(!) kitties already, so Beau will never be lonely again. Nikki is a gorgeous 3 year old lab/shepherd/dalmation mix that was abandoned in a neighborhood in Mexico. She was going to be taken to a kill shelter, but our rescue partners would not let that happen and immediately took her in when they received word about her. She was a bit scared of them at first but eventually warmed up. She was full of ticks and fleas, some scars and very dirty. Flash forward to the present time and Nikki is a joyful, sweet girl that wants to play and be loved. She is full of life and loves to play and cuddle with anyone who will let her. 🐶 She was most likely a backyard dog that was not looked after properly and she now seeks affection from other dogs and her humans to make up for the lack of attention she received in her past life. She is good at home; she plays with her foster siblings and is very smart and can learn rules and tricks quickly. As part of our“Senior Sunday" series, we want to share stories about special NWBR pups who are adored as seniors. Some of our stories will include pups that have since crossed the rainbow bridge but will always be remembered. Each story is told by their family who loves them dearly. This week's NWBR senior story comes from Lanna, who shares her story of Hoss. Although Hoss himself wasn't an alum of NWBR, his impact resonates deeply as he brought his family to NWBR rescue—a gesture emblematic of the loyalty and love that many boxers and their families embody towards the cause. Hoss was already 7 and considered a senior by the shelter in Montana he was left at. Lanna and her partner John had been watching this particular rescue and knew immediately that Hoss was for them. Their adoption counselor worried that Hoss would be nervous, but he hopped right into the car, made himself at home, and spent the rest of the drive with his head on the center console between Lanna and John. He fit perfectly, literally and metaphorically, as all Boxers do! Though he was a senior already, he was an adventuresome pup, constantly hiking, rafting, and boating. He attended work regularly and was considered a therapy dog at Lanna's office. Hoss stayed with us for 7 more years, and passed peacefully in his dad's arms one evening, gracefully and on his own terms.
