The Bar-Kays- Shake Your Rump to the Funk The lead-off tune for the Memphis based funk band for Mercury Records. The group was re-tooled after tragedy occurred when four of the original members were killed in a plane crash including Stax artist Otis Redding in Wisconsin back in 1967. Original member, bassist James Alexander, missed the flight because the plane was already full to capacity. Along with the lone surviving member, the late Ben Cauley, the two came together to recruit new members. Along with veteran producer, the late Allen A. Bar-Kays- Shake Your Rump To The Funk The lead-off single from the debut long player for Mercury Records. Groomed to be the second house band for Stax Records replacing Booker T & The MGโs. But, disaster occurred when four of the original members were killed along with Stax artist Otis Redding in a plane crash in Wisconsin. Original member James Alexander missed the flight as the plane was too small to carry another passenger. Alexander along with the only surviving member of crash, Ben Cauley, would re-tool the group with new members. Along with their producer, the late Allen A. Jones, it was all about the funk as the groupโs much funkier sound took center stage. Considered one of the celebrated funk bands in the second half the โ70โs. RIP Allen A.
