Yesterday we went to Cafe ALFIO. We took two rice meal, momo and special hot wings. . . . This rice meal consist of fried rice, Jamaican chicken, sauteed vegetables and mashed potato. The rice and veggies were perfect. Mashed potato was creamy and tasted good with rice. Jamaican chicken also tasted really good but they can make the meal little gravy texture instead of keeping items dry. But according to the price this rice meal is pretty good deal. . . Momos were all yummy and felt like more homemade taste than restaurant style. . . Special hot wings were also tasted perfect and price was also reasonable according to the tasted and quantity. . . It will make you nostalgic after the first bite. Nowadays there is intense competition in the F&B industry but some places have a soft corner at people's hearts. It tasted great and loved the greasiness, it was not overpowering at all. It had a juicy flavorful burger patty which was cooked medium rare, covered with house special sauce and chewey beef bacon. The bun was soft. Overall, one burger will fill up your tummy. ■ Grilled Chicken Sandwich: 280 Taka - The grilled chicken patty tasted juicy and delicious. The sandwich was panini style toasted and served with fries. Loved the taste. ■ Potato Wedges: 150 Taka - Enjoyed the hand-cut fries with two types of sauce. The Chaat has crunchy papri which is topped with thick yoghurt, tok, onions and chillies, lentils and churmurs. The Chaat is good, no doubt, but the question is will I have them again? First let's talk about the quantity. The quantity is very poor if I compare it with the one at Roll Xpress. Surely, if I visit this place again, I might order this as an appetizer with my mains. So days back, Bene Bistro had invited me to try out their food. Bene Bistro is located at House no. 36, Road no. 117, Gulshan 1, Dhaka. This particular place belongs to the same people as for Yum Cha District and Taste of Lanka. Needless to say I had high expectations before going there. Let me jot down my thoughts below. ● Cream of Mushroom ● It was both thick and creamy. It has both button and shiitake mushrooms for a change. The presence of shiitake mushrooms was a treat to my tastebuds as well as my eyes. The flavours will burst in your mouth. ● Beef and Chicken Sliders ● It was very basic but juicy. The bun was soft layering down with juicy patty, lettuce and cheese. So I recently tried this new place called Love Triangle. Interesting huh? I believe the Triangle in their name depicts the shape of the shingara they specialise in. They are the same operation as Butter The Bakery. They are still at their soft launch and will be opening after 20 January 2020. Their menu is very interesting consisting of Cheeseburger Shingara, Pizza Shingara, Cheese Shingara and many more. Since they are still at their soft launch, I could only get my hands on 2 of their shingaras. ● Kolija Shingara ● 💰Tk. 50/piece This was one of my favourite among the 2. Let me tell you I'm not a kolija shingara fan but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The filling was satisfactory. The size is also big enough for a tummy. ● Cheese Shingara ● 💰Tk. 60/piece Loved this. Reminded me of those "Ponir Shingara" days. Very light in flavours. You can get their dips to go with it. Although I took their mayo dip but the shingaras were so good that the mayo was left untouched 😂 ● Dudh Cha ● 💰Tk. 25/cup This kinda reminds me of "Motka Cha". However, the flavour is different because of the usage of Jaggery (Gur) in their Dudh Cha. Can I mention that Jaggery is better than sugar? I remember when I was a kid, there used to be a cafe in Gulshan where they would offer fried ice creams. Yes! Fried ice creams! That used to be my mom's favourite. Over the time, I think I kind of forgot and don't know if anywhere in Dhaka, restaurants have fried ice cream. Let me know in the comments if you know any. In a fit of luck, I visited the cafe and instantly was drawn on to this particular dessert when I saw this in the menu. I knew I had to try it. ● Fried Ice Cream ● 💰Tk. 170 It's a 3 layer dessert with the lower part being a crispy waffle like crisp and the middle part a Vanilla ice cream which is fried with rice grains most probably. There is a top layer of another scoop of vanilla ice cream which is the drizzled with your choice of syrup: chocolate or strawberry. I chose chocolate. This dessert is crispy and fun to eat. You need to applaud @hakkadhakabd for introducing some terrific platters to fight your hunger. If someone knows how to perfect a platter, it's them. I tried this specific platter from Hakka Dhaka and was mesmerised. This platter consists of their chicken Chowmein, 2 pieces of momos with a dip and their garlic prawn. The quantity was stomach-filling. The momos were perfectly done and the lemongrass flavour was popping out. The dip was a plus point. The garlic prawn had full of prawns and had a dry chilli flavour coming out. What ticked me off was it missed that garlic flavour. Now what do I say about their chicken chowmein? How many of you are waffle fans here? It's just in recent years waffles have become a hype in Bangladesh and every restaurant wants to catch it but truly, there are very few waffle houses. Also, lesser than few are good or should I say actually keep the authenticity. I do try waffles here and there but it is surely a good treat to the taste bud. . I tried the waffle from @thecourtyardatparkheights to see if I can choose to let my tastebuds dance and also enjoy the beautiful ambience. . ● Nutella Waffle ● 💰Tk. 250+ It's a half waffle cut into 2 pieces. It is drizzled with nutella and served with a bowl of ice cream. The waffle is soft but slightly chewy. The waffle is very basic and felt small. I was not satisfied after I finished it and was craving for more but didn't feel like spending another 262.5tk in this waffle. Felt the quantity saddening. I feel there are better waffle places. I visited this new place today. Its name is Live : Pizaa and Kebab. You can guess by the name that they specialise in pizzas and kebabs. I ordered their newly introduced platter (Platter 3). Platter 3 It has : ● Butter Naan ●Chikka Tikka Kebab ●Chicken Reshmi Kebab ●Chicken Malai Boti Kebab ●Hariyali Kebab ●Grilled Chicken wings (2pcs) ●Mint Chutney ●A drink of your choice (Coke/Sprite/Fanta) I only took this platter to get all the taste in one go. The naan had a smoky flavour. It wasnt a soft naan though. It was more like the tandoori naan. It lacked that butter flavour. The tikka kebab was a bit dry IMO. I loved both the reshmi and malai boti kebab. They were soft and succulent. The hariyali kebab was bursting with flavours. It was not the best I had but surely a great one. The wings was one of my favourite part. It was smoky, grilled but juicy. You can see in the video how the juice oozes out as I press the chicken. Although the platter comes with a Raita but I was served with a mint chutney. The chutney was minty, spicy and it definitely gives a good kick that leaves a wasabi-like aftertaste but it's not wasabi trust me. It's the excess use of onions (YES ONIONS 💲💲). I am personally a spicy lover and white sauce pastas are just not for me. So I was skeptical about the taste and felt it will be the same over powered black pepper white sauce. Thankfully I was wrong. They slightly saute the spaghetti with dry red chillies and top it with white sauce. So the base is lightly spicy. I like the fact that the sweetness of the white sauce isn't overpowering and since the pasta isn't mixed, you can actually have it according to your liking. Recently I gave a visit to @thecourtyardatparkheights to see what the hype was about. I tried 2 of their rice bowls. ● Mexican Chicken (Pic 1) It is basically a Mexican rice bowl with grilled breast chicken pieces, cucumber chopped, tomato chopped and corns drizzled with spicy mayo. The star of the dish was the chicken. It was tender and juicy. The salad went well with the rice and mayo. However, the rice was over cooked and had a strong flavour of pepper which overpowers everything. Price - Tk 375+ ● Four Spice with Roasted Beef (Pic 2) It consists of rice, an egg, roasted beef and salad of cucumber and tomatoes. The rice tasted like any other rice. The egg was ok. What bothered me was the beef. It was dry, and was hard to chew. The most horrific roasted beef I ever had. I don't know if it was even roasted. Price - Tk 475+ 🔊 If I had to choose one rice bowl I would choose the Mexican chicken. See whichever branch is near your preferred location) I saw Bread and Beyond keeping this cake yesterday and I had to go try this unique cake. This cake is called Pandan cake. Now what is a Pandan? 👉🏻 It is an extract taken from Pandan leaf and widely used in South Asian cooking. A juice of Pandan is generally used to make Pandan cakes. It often greasy if tasted raw but can be light, coconut-ish, nutty flavour if cooked with various items. This cake I tasted was dry first of all. I wasn't expecting a great gooey cake as I'm aware of the type of cake Bread and Beyond makes. They usually dry but fluffy and light. There was shredded coconut on its end. The cake has 2 layers with cream of pandan is the middle. The flavour of Pandan is very mild. I was confused if the flavour is coming from the coconut in the sides or from the pandan. I ate the part of the cakes separately and felt that without the coconut shreds, the flavour seems kind of invisible. More like an usual Vanilla cake with mild nutty cream (Very mild I repeat). It's not recommended. You can give this a try for experience.
