All of them are awesome and deserve an audience. You can support indie film makers and movies by taking part as an audience member in festivals like TriBeCa. Bumblebees was directed by the late great Sebastian Sdaigui. Sdaigui tragically passed before getting to see his film make it to TriBeCa. Being selected is an incredible achievement for any director. He was a veteran, father, director, producer, and creative. May he rest in power.
@cutandclarityco Mama ASL charm collaboration is here! I’m sorry I’m so late to sharing this, but school has been my focus for a few weeks! This collaboration came out on the eighth of April and the support has been incredible to see! All the profits from this necklace charm go to SkiHi Deaf mentors program, which help provide language access to Deaf kids and their parents. 90% of Deaf kids will be born to hearing parents. The vast majority of these parents will never learn to sign. While assistive technology is a valuable tool, ASL (and all signed languages) lay the best foundation for complete access during language acquisition. The years of 0-5 are crucial for language and communication development in children. Too many Deaf kids are denied accessible language and language exposure at an early age. Birthday Week 2022 Happy birthday to the amazing Millicent Simmonds, who turned 19 on the 6th of March. Actress, artist, advocate, filmmaker, writer, and adventurer. Year 20 is already off to an incredible start. The True Biz television show has officially entered development, and will eventually be pitched to studios. What an incredible first project to produce. It will feature a cast of predominantly Deaf actors, with Deaf writers and filmmakers behind the scenes. As someone with hooded eyes myself I’m loving the makeup representation! So many colorful looks aren’t designed to suit our eye shape. I love the bold contrasting colors highlighted here. I thought a really cute detail of the Bafta party tonight was that the drink menu had cocktails inspired by each of the nominees. Millie’s was the Simmonds Mule. Millicent Simmonds got her first ever BAFTA nomination last night She’s up for the coveted Rising Star Award, previously won by Tom Holland, Kristen Stewart, James McAvoy, and Daniel Kaluuya, just to name a handful. If Millicent wins in March she’ll become one of only four non-British winners. It’s making me miss my family and holidays in Pittsburgh. I had to stay home this year to keep my loved ones safe. A little update for upcoming events in 2022! True Biz by Sara Novíc is coming out in March-April (depending on your area, and where you’re ordering your copy). I’m getting mine locally from my bookstore, and if you can I encourage you to shop small business. Helen & Teacher will start filming in the spring-summer if everything stays on schedule. That could mean we’re getting the movie late this year or early next. Omicron may postpone things, so keep an open mind. Colette filmed in Oxfordshire, Budapest, and Hungary, so there’s a chance Helen & Teacher will film one of these places. I’m hoping for some gorgeous scenery! Millie turns 19 on the 6th of March, and we will of course wish her a happy birthday.

The Media Access Awards 2021✨🙌 Millicent Simmonds will be hosting this year’s media access awards, including a list of star studded guests: Lauren Ridloff (Eternals), Marlee Matlin (Coda), John Krasinski (A Quiet Place Part II). These are some images from her first media access awards in 2018. The event will be held virtually and you can tune in on November 17th.
Helen & Teacher goes up for bidding this week at the #AFM (American Film Market) November 1-5th. We may find out a potential release date and see more additions to the cast soon. Fingers crossed it finds a great home with a studio that guarantees a theatrical release. I’m so excited to see it compete awards season.
