This is book 2 in the Arc of the Scythe series by @nealshusterman and it pulls you immediately back into this world. The story is again excellent, well written and fast paced. The characters are well described and despite the ultimate premise you find yourself routing for some of them, this feels like such skill by the author given what the story is about. It’s an enjoyable continuation of the story and WoW does the ending set up the next book and make you want to continue reading this brilliant series. I read this as an ebook and also listened to it again wonderfully voice acted by @gregthevoicetrembley as I’m waiting to see if this will be released in the collectors edition to match my copy of book 1. Lecture de février 2024 : le voyage empêché de Tassid Imache ⛵️ Un livre que j'ai reçu dans le cadre d'un masse critique sur babelio. Je ne connaissais pas du tout l'autrice ni la maison d'édition et j'étais ravie de cette découverte. Le livre m'a happée tout de suite, il commençait par une unique phrase concernant la mort de son père lorsque l'autrice avait 17 ans (ce qui est mon cas aussi). Malheureusement, mon engouement pour cette lecture est assez vite retombée. J'ai eu beaucoup de mal à suivre les deux narrations, elle m'a perdue. L'intrigue concernant son désir de tout quitter pour s'isoler à l'étranger était interessant, de nombreuses thématiques soulevées m'ont intriguées, mais je n'ai pas reussi à accrocher. L'écriture est plutôt belle, la première et la dernière partie du livres révèlent un cheminement assez puissant, mais l'autrice prend trop de chemins de traverses. Je pense que je suis passée à côté de cette lecture, je commence déjà à l'oublier, alors que je l'ai terminé il y a peu de temps, je ne sais pas pourquoi j'ai été aussi hermétique à cette histoire. Michael James Sullivan - wybaczcie, że się powtórzę - zdobył moje serce za sprawą świetnej, pełnej przygód i humoru serii Odkrycia Riyrii, której kolejne tomy w wersji audio pochłaniałam z wypiekami na twarzy (i teraz czekam na obiecane wznowienie, bo chcę je mieć na własność). Potem sięgnęłam po prequelową serię Kroniki Riyrii i znów przednio się bawiłam, choć emocje były może odrobinkę mniejsze, za to zachwycałam się nad elementami, które świetnie dopełniały opowieść z Odkryć... Za to podążanie za Legendami pierwszego imperium okazało się rewelacyjną zabawą i nie zmieniam zdania po Epoce wojny. Tym razem nie wieszałam Sullivanowi poprzeczki nisko, bo autor już udowodnił, że ma pomysł na swoją serię i na to, jak w ciekawy sposób zaadaptować legendy, które już poznaliśmy, i pokazać, co rzeczywiście przeszło do legendy, a co wyglądało zupełnie inaczej. Wszyscy wiemy, że historię piszą zwycięzcy, a do tego na przestrzeni wieków umykają kolejne detale i właśnie to doskonale wykorzystał autor. Ten cykl to takie klasyczne high fantasy, który oferuje zabawę na dwóch poziomach. Na jednym - dla osób, które czytają książki autora zgodnie z chronologią wydawania i w Legendach... rozpoznają elementy znane już z Odkryć... Drugi poziom dostępny jest dla wszystkich, także osób, dla których to pierwsze spotkanie z prozą autora i wspaniała, wciągająca opowieść o wielkim konflikcie między ludźmi, Fhrejami i nie tylko. Z jednej strony Sullivan nie przełamuje konwencji gatunkowej, nie jest też specjalnie innowacyjny. Z drugiej książkę naprawdę czyta się świetnie - czasem z zapartym tchem, czasem z uśmiechem na ustach, a nie raz i z łezką w oku. Epoka wojny to powieść, która świetnie kontynuuje i domyka wiele prowadzonych przez autora wątków i dodaje kolejne akcenty do opowieści. Może nie jest powieścią wybitną, wyraźnie wyróżniającą się na tle innych, ale napisaną z polotem i lekkością historią, przy której czytelnik dobrze się bawi. Nous assistons donc à la cérémonie d'ouverture, à l'entraînement, à l'interview, au déroulement du jeu et à une victoire qui n'est pas au goût du Capitole et plus particulièrement du Président Snow. Dans ce roman, nous avons plus de descriptions que de dialogues mais ça ne m'a pas dérangé tant l'intrigue est prenante. J'ai été vraiment touché, c'est à dire que des larmes ont coulé, par l'amour que porte Katniss à sa sœur Prim et la complicité entre Katniss et la petite Rue. 😳 Un premier tome haut en couleur !

Still, studies reveal that people living in Asian nations spend the most time hitting books. Second to India is Thailand, with people spending up to 9 hours a week reading. China comes in third with 8 hours per week. As for Europe, Sweden has the highest weekly average for the continent. The United States ranks 23rd compared to the rest of the world. Reading fictional books are shown to increase better decision-making in people by 50% to 100%. Reading can boost emotional development and career prospects by 50% to 100%. 80% of children have increases in specific areas of the brain when they're read to daily. In a recent study, avid readers were found to be 10% more likely than people who don't read to have better self-esteem. However, this is raised to 18% of people who read for 30 minutes or longer being factored in. Regular reading has been shown to lower stress levels by as much as 68%." Avis Lecture 🧐📖 "Victory of Eagles" Téméraire tome 5, Naomi Novik 🐉 Me voici à plus de la moitié de la série et même si ça s'essouffle un peu à certains moments, je reste toujours très attaché à Laurence et Téméraire. Une petite fierté aussi à l'idée de finir cette série - car oui je vais enfin finir une série de Novik!! - miracle à noter, moi qui ai abandonné toutes mes lectures de l'autrice 😅🤣. J'avais hâte de poursuivre avec ce volume, le 4eme m'avait laissé avec un cliffhanger pour nos héros, alors que Napoléon s'apprêtait à lancer l'assaut. Il se trouve que j'en ressort avec un sentiment diffu. J'ai aimé ma lecture, la première partie plutôt - alors que la seconde et le final m'ont fait lever les bras en l'air, demandant aux divinités des scénarios "mais pourquoi?!" On m'avait prévenu du côté répétitif scénaristique, sur le fait que nos héros ne se renouvellent pas forcément et restent figés dans leur propre nature. Et bien nous y sommes. Est-ce grave ? Non. Les livres sont assez courts pour que je les prenne en tant que "lecture légère" à la manière d'un jeunesse. Mais j'avoue que j'espérais plus et c'est notamment avec Laurence que mes yeux ont tendance à se lever.😮💨 Mettons de côté les idéaux de notre héros, idéaux que j'aime énormément, et qui restent très agréables à lire au fil des pages mais... On a l'impression que Novik tourne en rond et ne sait plus comment faire pour donner de la nuance aux héros. D'ailleurs, volume après volume, on en revient toujours à ces mêmes idéaux initiaux : lutte contre l'esclavage, l'égalité, la liberté etc. Je n'ai donc pas l'impression que l'histoire avance vraiment si ce n'est celle se basant sur notre Grande Histoire et la guerre entre la France et l'Angleterre. Heureusement, les héros restent tout de même attachants et au final les livres se lisent avec facilité. J'ai tout de même hâte de connaître la fin de la série ✨👍

Audio Book review! I finished The Last Lumenian by S. G. Blaise and am giving it a 4/5 ⭐️ It was a pretty good read and I liked the characters, especially how all the characters interacted. I think I wanted the main character to be a little more badass and maybe some of the plot line could have been stronger but all in all it was entertaining. I absolutely loved some of the main side characters. The world building was awesome and I liked the history of the characters’ planets and cultures. És persze a jó kis "keksz" jelenetekkel🤭 Ugyan be kell vallanom, az Icebreaker egy kicsit jobban tetszett, mint a Wildfire. Míg a Jégtörő elrugaszkodottabb volt a valóságtól, addig a Futótűz teljesen a realitás talaján íródott, és olyan családi problémákkal küzdő fiatalokról szól, akik akár a szomszédaid, vagy az évfolyamtársaid is lehetnének. Russ, a szomszéd srác. Egyből beleszeretsz! Ha nem a kinézete miatt (dehogynem!), akkor a személyisége és a viselkedése miatt. Ő az a félénk fiú, aki lesüti a szemét, aki nem mer megszólítani, nem mer a szemedbe nézni, viszont ha végre megembereli magát, akkor szó szerint lehengerel, elüt mint a tehervonat!😍 És hogy ő miért olyan amilyen? Mert a szerencsejáték-függő apja érzelmileg tönkretette. Aurora pedig az a lány, aki csinos és szép, minden pasi meg akarja kapni, neki pedig ez az egész csak egy önbizalom löket. Nagyon tetszik, hogy az írónő csontig hatolóan jól be tudja mutatni a fiatalok problémáit. Hannah Grace tökéletesen papírra vetette a családi traumákat, az egész cselekményt és imádom a karakterek fejlődését!
