It’s never a matter of time, but a matter of timing.” After a dreadfully long reading slump, I have finally read a book which I could confidently say is my FAVORITE BOOK. I never would’ve imagined that I would read my favorite book this year, but wow! I just randomly picked it up on a Friday night, and it became my first ever annotated book and now my favorite book. This Seven Year Slip book is just *chef’s kiss*. (iykyk) As I read and watched reviews and recommendations of this book, I was immediately struck by the uniqueness of its plot and immediately thought that it would be a magical read. And boy, did it not disappoint. The Seven Year Slip is the epitome of a beautifully written book! The writing was just beautiful. The romance was so well-written and wasn’t rushed at all. It was the book that gave me all the romance feels, and at the same time, it gave me lessons in life and love through a well-thought-out and beautiful story. This book made me realize that in life, we should always chase the moon, and in chasing the moon, change is bound to happen, but change isn’t all that bad. Change can bring beautiful things. Change is an experience that is bound to happen, and there’s nothing we can do but face it headfirst. The book also shared with me that the phrase “Right person, wrong time” is real because in life, it’s never a matter of time, but a matter of timing. The Seven Year Slip has taught me sooo much but also gave me butterflies. Recensie Ik ben gedachten - @alignmentmenoodj Iedereen heeft gedachten In elk van ons zit iets heel belangrijks, iets dat je helpt over dingen na te denken, beslissingen te nemen en in actie te komen. Het zijn gedachten. Iedereen heeft ze, maar niet iedereen weet dat je gedachten kan beïnvloeden, dat je negatieve gedachten om kan zetten naar iets positiefs en dat je ze in je voordeel kan gebruiken. Ik ben gedachten van Menoodj Bharatsingh is een begrijpelijk hulp- en doeboek voor lezers en doeners vanaf 8 jaar. Menoodj Bharatsingh heeft zijn boek opgesplitst in twee delen. Het eerste deel bestaat uit een mix van theorie en oefeningen, waarbij ieder hoofdstuk wordt afgesloten met een korte samenvatting van wat je net hebt geleerd. Het tweede deel bestaat volledig uit oefeningen, waarmee de auteur je natuurlijk wel even op weg helpt. “Niemand beslist wat jij moet denken, en je bent altijd vrij om de gedachte te kiezen die het beste bij jou past. Maar hoe kies je eigenlijk wat je wilt denken?” Menoodj Bharatsingh Het boek is echt gericht op doen en al vanaf de eerste bladzijde wordt je aangezet tot actie. Ik vroeg me zelfs even af of ik niet eerst wat meer uitleg had willen krijgen. Maar ondanks dat het voor de jongere lezer wel om enige begeleiding vraagt van ouders/begeleiders, maakt dat het eigenlijk ook wel zo leuk. Naast het plezier van het samen uitvoeren van de oefeningen, kan je er als ouder/begeleider zelf ook nog iets van opsteken. Ik vond het in ieder geval erg leuk om de oefeningen ook zelf te doen en hier bewust mee bezig te zijn. De illustraties van Tom Verbruggen maken het boekje compleet, en passen goed bij de positieve sfeer die Menoodj Bharatsingh wil overbrengen. Een groot stuk van het tweede deel bestaat dan ook uit een positiviteitsdagboek. Met behulp daarvan kunnen jongeren, samen met een ouder/begeleider, oefenen om meer controle te krijgen over hun gedachten. Met Ik ben gedachten hoopt Menoodj Bharatsingh kinderen die dat nodig hebben, te leren hoe ze hun gedachten kunnen sturen en beïnvloeden, zodat ze kunnen ontdekken hoe krachtig ze zijn. ✨ REVIEW ✨ Historical fiction is perhaps my first love in reading — the combination of universal sentiments and historical contexts make for such moving narratives that highlight our inherent humanness, regardless of time and place. Peach Blossom Spring by @melissafuwriter was precisely that — a family saga spanning generations in a time where family histories and heritages were under the threat of erasure by the Second Sino-Japanese War and then resumption of the Chinese Civil War not long after. Even if this story isn’t my own, the emotion, sentiments and thoughts definitely resonate with me. It is a tale of migration out of necessity, and also out of hope for something better. Such a tale requires a tender treatment to unpack all the characters, their idiosyncrasies, personalities and thoughts. Fu does this well, weaving intricate threads between Meilin, Renshu and Lily, always connecting them to an established heritage, even if they themselves are unaware of it. Yet, its structure is harsh, with the narrative only moving towards the future, leaving the past behind, only to reemerge as memories for later generations. The characters are however, accompanied by age-old Chinese folktales, providing solace and wisdom at various turning points that they face. The most memorable one of the folktales is the one on the peach blossom spring, which was employed as a parallel to the realities the characters faced. The sacrifice for bliss, and whether that sacrifice was worth it at all. It evoked a bag of emotions for me while reading. Heartbroken with the consequences of war, rejoicing at little moments of peace, profound sadness and distraught at the sacrifices made and a sense of serenity once I turned the final page. The book made me revisit old wounds and gave me new perspectives on my own story, family and heritage. An absolutely beautiful read! 🦂 The Familiar ⏳ I saw a lot of mixed reviews for this one but I have to say that I really enjoyed it! I liked the pacing throughout and really loved how aspects of the end worked out. Jenny Proctor did it again! She writes such fun romance novels!! We are in the Appies universe again and we are loving it!! Fun fact: I happen to be a huge fan of these Appies Hockey Romances and especially this one because I am lucky to have my own Husband Hockey Grump!! My husband and I fell in love over hockey (long story) and I have such a soft spot in my heart for all these awesome Appies! Also we have guest appearances by the Hawthorne brothers (did someone say Flint??!!) so that’s super fun!! This book is about Summer, the Appies new legal counsel and Nathan, their left defenseman. Nathan is a bit of a grump, or at least he appears to be. Summer is intrigued and possibly immediately smitten, and because she is a queen and has no fear she is constantly looking for reasons to talk to him and challenge him. Highcliffe House by Megan Walker Highcliffe House has one of my favorite tropes, enemies to lovers. Anna Lane is an only child who wants all of her father’s attention, but she feels one of his business associates, Graham Everett, is taking up WAY too much of his time. I laughed out loud at some of the subtle digs Anna and Graham gave each other as they each fought for Mr. Lane’s attention. Somehow Mr. Lane gets the idea to have Graham take Anna to Brighton to let her decide about a possible investment Graham wants him to join him in, and Graham is sure she will say no to the investment because she hates him of course. As Anna gets to know Graham and his family, she sees another side of him and her heart begins to soften. Graham’s heart softens as well. ☀️ Trial of the sun queen - Nisha J. Tuli ☀️ De flaptekst vind je in de reacties! ----------------- Ik wist niet dat het mogelijk was om zoveel bekende series in één boek te krijgen. Op het boek zelf staat volgens mij een mix van de Hunger Games en de Bachelor, maar voeg daar gerust de Selectie, Glazen Troon en Hof van Doorns en Rozen aan toe! And I love it!! Ik kan me voorstellen dat mensen dit tegen staat, maar ik kon dit heel goed los zien. Dit boek las echt als een trein en het pakt je al vanaf de eerste pagina. Een echte pageturner. Vanaf het begin dacht ik het einde wel al een beetje te kunnen voorspellen, maar dat bleek even totaal anders 😉 Het boek heeft me dan ook met aardig wat vragen achtergelaten. Je leert gelijk het hoofdpersonage Lor goed kennen en hoe zij is. Een gevangene van Nostraza, met veel liefde voor haar broer en zusje, maar die zich vaak in de nesten werkt. En een grote haat tegen de Aurorakoning, die ervoor gezorgd heeft dat Lor en haar broer en zusje zijn opgesloten. Maar dan raakt ze onverwachts betrokken bij de selectie van de nieuwe Zonnekoningin. Een uitkomst en een mogelijke wraak. Naast Lor, vond ik alle personages eigenlijk heel sterk en er was er geen waar ik echte irritaties bij had of wat zwak vond. Alle daden hadden een reden en maakte het personage juist sterker. Het is heel makkelijk om een connectie met ze te ontwikkelen. Aan het begin van deze LE zit ook een mooie, gedetailleerde kaart die je al een kort inzicht geeft in de wereld van dit boek. De world boulding vind ik echt heel sterk en ik ben echt benieuwd hoe dit de komende delen zich verder gaat ontwikkelen. Diverse delen/provincies van het land in dit boek hebben mijn interesse gewekt. Vooral Hart. Kortom, een mix van allemaal bekende en populaire series, het feit dat het boek wegleest als een trein en ik vanaf de eerste pagina gelijk al hooked was, maakt voor mij dit een van de parels van dit jaar! It is about the value of friendship and solitude, and knowing when to give and when to take. 🐈⬛ My opinion🐈⬛ This gem of a novel may well be one of the most moving books I have ever read!!! ❤️ It is about Nana, a former stray cat, who sets out on a journey with his owner Satoru to visit friends from Satoru's school and college days and his aunt, who raised him after his parents' death. Obviously Satoru wants to find a permanent home for his beloved cat, but at the beginning we don't know why. In the course of the book little hints are dropped that point in a certain direction and turn out to be true at end of the book. The story is told from the perspective of Nana, the cat, whose observations are - as is typical for cats 😉 - quite sarcastic but spot on and made me laugh out loud quite a few times! We also get the perspectives of Satoru's friends and his aunt, who tell us readers about their relationships with Satoru and what was so special about them. So we get to know Satoru through the eyes of his cat, his friends and his aunt, and it becomes clear quite soon that Satoru is a very sensitive and kind young man, whose cat means the world to him. Recensie Liefs van mij - @jessicasaundersbooks @harpercollins_holland De enige ware? Rachels leven is niet slecht. Ze is moeder, echtgenote en een hardwerkende advocaat. Tot voor kort was het misschien een beetje saai, maar inmiddels staat het volledig op zijn kop. Vanaf het moment dat er oude foto’s en liefdesbrieven naar de media zijn gelekt van Rachel en haar jeugdliefde, is saai niet langer van toepassing. Jack is namelijk een zeer bekend acteur en de pers springt bovenop hun verleden en hun heden. De confrontatie met haar oude zelf dwingt Rachel om uit te zoeken wie ze is, wat ze wil en waar (en bij wie) ze wil zijn. “Weg was de magere tiener; zijn armen waren slank maar gespierd. Ze liet zich door hem omhelzen en waande zich heel eventjes weer helemaal in hun middelbareschooltijd.” Jessica Saunders Liefs van mij van Jessica Saunders is een heerlijk feelgood verhaal met een aansprekende second-chance romance. Jessica Saunders heeft een fijne schrijfstijl die je aandacht op een ontspannen wijze vasthoudt terwijl je tijd doorbrengt met haar hoofdpersoon. Rachel is een down to earth, hardwerkende moeder en echtgenote die op punten echt herkenbaar is. Jessica Saunders zet haar sterk neer en beschrijft de omstandigheden waar Rachel in belandt op een manier die je makkelijk bij al haar (relationele) perikelen betrekt. Ze zorgt dat je je goed kan voorstellen hoe Rachel zich moet voelen en waarom ze, door alles wat er gebeurt, op zoek gaat naar antwoorden op wat ze nu echt wil. De personages om Rachel heen zijn al even plezierig neergezet als de hoofdpersoon zelf. Haar vriendinnen zijn leuk en niet feilloos, haar kinderen zijn aanwezig in het verhaal, en bestaan niet alleen op de achtergrond, en de mannen in haar leven zijn likable maar niet perfect. Voor mij persoonlijk maakte Jessica Saunders het heel gemakkelijk om een voorkeur te hebben voor een van de mannen, maar ik denk dat er ook genoeg lezers zijn die een andere keuze maken. Dat is een van de sterke punten van dit verhaal, er bestaan geen perfecte personages en geen perfecte keuzes. Het zijn gewoon karakters die met vallen en opstaan hun leven leiden. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Book 72 🏫 "The Secrets We Keep" von Sarah Adams (Rosefield Academy of Arts, Band 1) . ᴜɴʙᴇᴢᴀʜʟᴛᴇ ᴡᴇʀʙᴜɴɢ | ʀᴇᴢᴇɴsɪᴏɴsᴇxᴇᴍᴘʟᴀʀ . Ich hatte zu Beginn Schwierigkeiten in das Buch reinzukommen und habe es auch ein paar Tage pausiert, weil ich dachte es ist jetzt nicht der richtige Moment für das Buch. Nach der Pause ging es dann besser, ich mochte den Schreibstil und die Charaktere, aber die Geschichte konnte mich nicht ganz überzeugen. Es war zum Teil wirklich spannend, aber die Auflösung dann so vorhersehbar mit einer Brise unnötigen Drama, das am Ende viel zu schnell gelöst wurde, das war das Drama nicht wert. Da wurde viel Potential verschwendet. Grundsätzlich wurde ich aber gut unterhalten und auch das Setting hat es mir angetan. Ich werde die Reihe weiterverfolgen und glaube, dass mich der nächste Band mit Charlotte als Protagonistin, mehr abholen kann. - ⭐⭐⭐ .
