Jeannine Hall, 60, would often sit on a bench outside her hair salon in Tres Pinos, which faces Hwy 25, but the sounds of cars and trucks darting down the highway stopped her from enjoying the green hillsides. There are times she looks out the window of her salon, which sits a few feet from the highway and can’t tell how fast cars are going, but it’s definitely more than the 35 mph speed limit, she said. “You can ask all the owners here and they’ll all complain,” she said. “It’s a big concern for a lot of people.” BenitoLink reached out to Caltrans about the complaints. The new Highway 25 bridge, seen here Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, over the BNSF Railway line in Brainerd is set to open to all travelers on Friday, Nov. 10, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. For those who have followed the detour since April 17, this is no doubt welcome news. The $6.4 million project replaced the Highway 25 bridge over the railroad tracks between 10th Avenue Northeast and Red Pine Road, resurface the road north and south of the bridge, add right-turn lanes to Red Pine Road and 28th Street East and construct a pedestrian multi-use trail along the west side of Highway 25 from 10th Avenue Northeast over the new bridge to 28th Street East. Travelers will benefit from a new bridge to last up to 75 years, a smoother road surface, and improved safety and access, MnDOT reported. Crews will return in spring to complete the multi-use trail, establish turf, and complete other work. Heading back up north towards home. This was on CA-25 NB. Gotta love the countryside… I just finished witnessing the awesome, long-awaited annular solar eclipse (partial eclipse) from around the southern outskirts of Paicines, CA along CA-25… Due to clouds back in San Jose, I had to do a bit of driving to get to clearer skies. Skies were clearer just south of Hollister and that’s where I stopped on the side of CA-25 to witness this dazzling display of our moon slowly passing right in front of the sun. Daylight seemed to dim a little and it noticeably got cooler when temps dipped as less sunlight was hitting us. It was totally worth the drive and lack of sleep lol. This was also like a mini solo countryside getaway to escape the busy city life for a bit. Anyways, I can’t wait for next year’s total solar eclipse! (Saturday morning, October 14, 2023) *A bit about this astronomical event: On Oct. 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse had crossed North, Central, and South America. Visible in parts of the United States, Mexico, and many countries in South and Central America, millions of people in the Western Hemisphere had a chance to witness this eclipse. During an annular eclipse, it is never safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection. The spectacular "ring of fire" had created gasps and cheers as an annular solar eclipse darkened skies and left just a sliver of the sun visible from Oregon to Texas. The eclipse was also visible from satellites 22,500 miles away from Earth. The GOES-East satellite captured the west appearing to lose sunlight before noon. The maximum dimness lasted less than an hour before full sunlight returned. During the minimal sunlight, weather observation sites even reported a decrease in temperatures. This was a real treat in prep for next year’s even better total solar eclipse (Monday, April 8, 2024). Don’t miss that event!
