10.02.2024 - Wir haben genau zwei Wochen gebraucht, um unseren Traumcamper zu finden. 🚐 (Was wirklich schnell ist, bei anderen sind dafür 2-3 Monate ins Land gegangen.) An diesem Wochenende waren wir zu erst in Rust um einen Peugeot Boxer L2H2 anzuschauen. Wir waren noch nicht 100% sicher ob es die Größe und Länge L2H2 oder L3H2 werden soll. Der erste Camper war leider nichts, da er auf den Bildern super aussah und in echt leider total beschädigt. Dann sind wir weiter nach Straßburg gefahren um einen Citroën Jumper in gleicher Größe anzuschauen, wurden dann überrascht. Der Verkäufer hat das Fahrzeug bereits verkauft und uns dann einen Peugeot Boxer in L3H2 gezeigt. Wir waren erst überrascht, waren aber gleich vom Fahrzeug und der Größe begeistert. Last Thursday, @wkuhumanresources had a “Take Your Kids to Work Day” for faculty and staff at @wku. This past Wednesday, I was able to experience another pretty cool full circle moment that I will remember for a long time. Seeing the 𝐻𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑘 𝐼𝑠 story on a trail at a place that shaped my childhood and grew the passion I have for parks is pretty neat. One of the places we visited the most when visiting my grandparents here in BG was Paradise Playground at Basil Griffin Park, and I thought it was AWESOME! As a park and rec kid, playgrounds were my favorite thing growing up, and as a young kid visiting from Louisville, this felt like the biggest playground I had ever laid my eyes on. Slides towers that made me feel like I was climbing Mount Everest, swings to help me reach the moon, and so much more! As I have grown up and now am in the field of park and recreation as a professional, it is this same child-like enthusiasm for our industry that I try to bring to work each day. Memories I have as a child at Paradise Playground in Basil Griffin Park are the things that motivate me each day to be at my best, so others can experience this same joy I did as a kid. Started our week off great with a visit to Rockfield Elementary! We read the 𝐻𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑘 𝐼𝑠 story and designed our perfect parks by grade level. The amount of imagination and creativity was amazing, and these kids were all excited to dream big of all the amazing things they would put in their parks. Today marks the first day of what is becoming a very exciting 2023 calendar of events for the 𝐻𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑘 𝐼𝑠 story. As I reflect on it all this morning, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity God has given me to use a children’s book to not only share my passion for parks, but more importantly share the legacy of who my grandpa was and what he meant to me. He was my greatest role model, biggest supporter, and best friend. I miss the moments in this picture more and more each day, yet I am thankful that with each page turn of this book, I feel connected and close to my grandpa once again. So, on a recent trip down to New Orleans to watch our @wkufootball Hilltoppers in the @neworleansbowl, we spent the night in the beautiful town of @visitlaureljonescounty MS! We enjoyed a fantastic dinner at @mimmosristorantepizzaria and walking around Downtown Laurel visiting all the awesome shops, parks, and murals. On our way out of town the next day, we decided to drop some signed copies of our book off at the @laureljonescountylibrary.sys and @laurelmercantile (it was Sunday, so the library and store were closed!). Heaven certainly gained the sweetest Angel over the Christmas Holiday when our dear friend Travis went to be with Jesus on Christmas Eve. This picture was from our Louisville Book Launch, and we were so glad to share our story with him and so many others who are part of the inspiration behind important parts of the book. To know Travis was to know what genuine love and pure joy for life truly was. Travis had a spirit unlike anyone I’ve ever had the pleasure of being around. His love for the Lord was something that challenged me greatly any time I was fortunate enough to be home and be around him. Travis always ended his prayers in Sunday School class by saying to God, “If there’s anything I can do for you, let me know! Amen!” What a wonderful depiction of having a servants heart, always ready to do the things God would have for us to do. I have no doubt in my mind that Travis is right next to Jesus as Heavens newest “Gate Greeter”, welcoming people home with a smile and one of his famous hugs. Please keep his Mom Donna and Dad Wayne in your thoughts and prayers. They have started a foundation in his honor, hugliketravis.com, to continue his legacy of loving others. Last week at the Annual @ky_rec_park_society Conference in Corbin KY, Author Cameron Levis had the opportunity to lead an education session using his children’s book, 𝐻𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑘 𝐼𝑠! He shared the inspiration behind the story, ways the book can be used as a tool for park advocacy, and then encouraged professionals and students to dream up their own perfect parks! Inspiring playful imagination in the minds and hearts of those attending the session was the goal, and we’d say that was more than accomplished! I recently had the opportunity to do a 𝐻𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑊ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑘 𝐼𝑠 storytime during a local school family night in Plano, TX while visiting family for Fall break. After the reading while signing copies of the book, one of the students sat next to me and began drawing his own “Perfect Park” in the back of his book. The excitement the pages of this book inspired in him to dream of all the possibilities the park can have is exactly what I hoped for when writing this story. It is the same inspiration my grandpa instilled in me as a young kid that has led me into a career in Park, Recreation, and Sport.
