It's interesting to me how different families handle the 0-1 baby vs the 1-2 transition. For us the 0-1 was a piece of cake. total trick baby had me convinced I was an excellent mom and parenting was not nearly as hard as everyone made it out to be... enter #2. food sensitivities, reflux, tongue tie, ALL. THE. THINGS. I realize now, 9 years removed from my second son's birth that I remember my other two son's early years better. I was so sucked in to the awfulness that was his early newborn days that I can't remember more than the awful. And that kind of sucks. I wish I would have been better at asking for help. I wish I would have just taken a deep breath. I wish I would have taken some medication 😂. I wish I would have recognized my postpartum depression for what it was instead of assuming that because I was totally fine with my first son, I needed to be totally fine with my second. I'm not sure where I'm going with this caption except to say that if you're struggling with your first baby, your second baby or your 12th baby remember that every baby is different. and it's ok to need some help. Here are a few ideas to help with a tough new baby transition: 🧑🏻🍼Hire a Postpartum Doula 👵🏼Fly in a Grandma 👭🏼Join a mom's group 👩🏽⚕️Find a postpartum therapist 🏥Seek medical treatment (for you and/or baby) 💆🏻♀️Practice self care (go get a massage!) 🏋️♀️Hire a personal trainer (I had one who wore my baby for me while I worked out. It wasn't about getting my body back- it was me time and feeling good about myself again) 🍷go out for a glass of wine with a friend (have a virtual date with someone over zoom if you really can't leave the house)

Laid-back position, "Biologic Nursing", "Mommy-Down Under", or Reclined position is my absolute favorite position for newborns and their mothers. This position allows the proprioception found in the hands and feet of the baby to help them ground themselves at the breast. Babies are most comfortable in "prone" positions, especially on their mother's. Due to the "back to sleep" campaign for "SIDS," babies are not integrating specific reflexes that help them with feeding and development, thus, laid-back position helps them. There are way too many natural reasons to list to validate this beautiful position for babes, but for mom, there is one big one! COMFORT!!! Goodbye neck pain, carpal tunnel pain, and ridiculous horribly made breastfeeding pillows! Bonus to all of us phone addicted people, you can text!
