💜💜💜 For Mom 💜💜💜 When I was in med school, we had a simulated patient encounter on breaking bad news. The scenario was telling someone they had pancreatic cancer. This disease was chosen because the survival rate was abysmal. Fast forward three years, I received a phone call from my parents breaking the bad news to me—mom had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I knew the survival rate. Though six years have passed, not a day goes by that I don’t wish my mom was still here. I think about how much she would love spending time with my girls, how proud she’d be of me, and what a wonderful dad and husband she’d think Joey is. Today, while wearing my mom’s favorite purple jacket, I walked alongside other families and colleagues who have gone through the same awful disease. I also saw a handful of people who survived pancreatic cancer. We all shared the same goal—improve the survival rate and find a cure. A river is forced into a narrow canyon and creates a spectacularly wild and raging waterfall. A hike onto the rocks allows you to stand wonder struck above the abyss. The massive amount of water crashes so ferociously that spray rises to envelop your body. The thunderous water is deafening; you can’t hear another person talk. The boulders you’re standing on reverberate with the immense power surging past them. It’s amazing how God works in ways you just never even thought about. Not that you doubt in the moment or don’t have trust, but you simply just don’t think about a certain thing happening to you and then it does. I know I’m talking about an arbitrary thing, aka an elk antler, but I wasn’t even expecting to find such a beautiful antler on a turkey hunt as this one, let alone an antler at all. And then 5 minutes after this we got into some turkeys. Couldn’t quite make it happen on the turkey end, but a fun hunt nonetheless!
