Almost two years ago, I sat down at my computer on a Saturday evening for the @fls_academy Foundations of Freestyle. I think it was the first online version of the course they had ever offered. I had never rapped before. I had never freestyled before. I had never beatboxed before. And, to be clear, I would not have called myself a rapper, freestyler, or beatboxer by the end of the weekend. But something shifted. It wasn't just the teachers, who were all extraordinary. Or the other participants, who were completely wonderful and all seemingly down to step into the uncomfortable and vulnerable void of doing something that is very hard in front of strangers. It was the feeling - I hadn't felt that alive, inspired, or energized in years. And it was childlike. A total sense of wonder that stemmed from all that could be in the future. It didn't all happen at once, but I found @soulfoodcypher and @rickchyme . I connected with @trustbs and joined his amazing freestyle family. I locked in with @senzsound and @christianwhundley . I wrote. A lot. And practiced and freestyled and performed for the walls of my apartments. I sucked. A lot. I remember watching videos of myself and loathing every bit of them. My body language, my tone. But I kept going. And the only reason I kept going is how that weekend made me feel. That childlike wonder that made me feel like I had discovered actual Harry Potter-ass magic. The longer I do this, the more I learn that I don't know or don't do as well as I wish. I lack the words to express my adequate gratitude to everyone who encouraged me, showed up to one of those classes, or took the time to invest in me. And I believe that with every fiber of my being, I will turn this into something you are proud to have been a part of creating. Introducing my 9th release of 2021, ‘This Is Goodbye’ featuring an appearance from my sister @melissareynoldsmakesfilms The song will be released on October 3rd, the day before my birthday which also happens to be exactly five years to the day since my Grandpa Norman passed away. I wrote the song shortly after his death, and recorded a very rough, raw version which can be found on YouTube but was never released in any capacity. This five year anniversary release is a full band production and honours his memory in a different way. It’s always a hard day, but I’m happy in the knowledge I get to share my wonderful grandpa with more people. Stay tuned ❤️

Here is another blast from the past - one of the first press interviews I ever did for one of my first bands! I really miss those days. After two decades of making music the excitement and passion can often be lost and replaced with frustration and a jaded worldview. I remember so well how hungry we all were to prove ourselves back then - we did nothing but eat, sleep and breathe our music! Our lives have changed so much since then and we haven’t all stayed in touch but I have fond memories of being young and making music with my friends ❤️🎵
Throwback to my acoustic performance of ‘Island’ at the Footprint music competition in Weston Super Mare, 2009! It’s very strange for me to look back on this - not only am I about 60lbs heavier in this video but my voice is very thin and strained, and I’m struggling for enough breath to sing. This was before I did ten years in a wedding band and really came into my own, I can tell how nervous and inexperienced I was! Funnily enough I actually came first in the acoustic category in this competition and won some recording equipment. It’s very interesting to hear the evolution of this song over the years into the single I released this month. How time flies!
