I didn’t feel well that day I took those pictures. I don’t particularly remember why, I just remember the feeling of being a bit down, being alone and tired. So I just snatched my camera and changed my shirt (I tend to sweat really bad because of my meds) and went outside. I listened to music and found a god place in a park nearby. I made sure the flash was on because it was really dark and then I sort of danced? I don’t know if you could call it dancing. I definitely twirled, that I remember. The music I listened to was sad and hopeful altogether & I felt, idk, I think I felt free? I didn’t feel much that day but in this moment I did and though it wasn’t necessarily happiness it was *something*. While listening to *Gloom Scroll* by @flowerbombband in my car, I cut off the music briefly to speak into my phone, “Even cultivated roses are still a little wild”. — — — Across the last 2+ years, I’ve attended therapy sessions either weekly or biweekly without fail. I’ve learned so much about myself and how I want to exist in this world, have existed previously, and what moves my needle towards content and discontent alike. I’ve made a host of behavioral and structural changes – fewer shows, regular sleep schedule, more planned relaxation, increased reading, increased exercise, more time with loved ones, etc. – but also some significant philosophical ones, too. Chief among these is the bifurcating intentional pursuits of tranquility paired with noise. Theoretically, I can dampen the world by turning off my hearing, though I don’t think tranquility is gained in that vacuum; rather, I’ve found that I benefit from sitting in a place dampened instead by space – trees, greenery, lapping water – instead of my loss. It seeds thoughts, flowering into something that opens me up; when I am alone-but-not, I get to engage instead of pass through thoughts. I can’t slip behind the busyness of video games or books, which so often half-destroy all passing thoughts. It is so hard to know myself when everything is noisy. -- -- When I’m coming down from the solitude, I play music to my hearing aids, almost always something that moves my feet almost-involuntarily. I probably go to Hiss the most often, especially when I want to step heavy, but since discovering Flowerbomb, I’ve found myself thumbing to their album. The songs flow like un-dammed rivers, tidal and propulsive, destructive and bright; they change the landscape. Live, they’re more like the dynamite that broke the dam and the audience is the rushing river.
