🍗 Danggui roast duck 🍗 📍JB: Restoran Ya Wang 🇲🇾 We ate so much when we went to JB that we could only eat minimal amounts at this spot, but we def don’t regret trying it! It’s also located quite near the JB checkpoint, so it’s convenient for your first meal of your trip. The danggui roast duck was tender and not gamey, with crisp skin. However, the danggui gravy itself didn’t have a very strong herbal taste, which was a slight pity.

🤍 Soy desserts 🤍 📍JB: Four Beans 🇲🇾 I recently went on a day trip to JB and had to try this popular spot that I’ve seen online! We got their Signature Soy Beancurd since it has almost every topping. There’s peach gum, snow nest, mixed taro balls, mini taro balls, honey pearls, grass jelly, ginkgo, and peanut candy. It also comes with chrysanthemum syrup, which added a nice floral touch. I didn’t really enjoy this bowl because it was too sweet though - it’s a pity that their cold beancurd is sweet because all of the added toppings are already pretty sweet. I did like their World of Taro soy milk drink though! You can choose unsweetened soy milk, and there’s a really generous amount of taro paste inside, along with mini taro balls. It was earthy and not too sweet.

Handmade dim sum at Kluang Bus Terminal. We arrived to the scene of the owner making siew mai, stuffing the meat into the wrapper. Needless to say, I was attracted to it and ordered their Siew Mai (RM 3.80). The siew mai, which came in a dim sum basket consisting of three pieces, was pretty pale in colour and irregularly shaped. The meat, though tender, was a tad salty. The wrapper was slightly firm and dry rather than smooth and slippery. Next, I had their Chicken Glutinous Rice (RM 5), which I found nice to a certain extent. The glutinous rice was soft and lightly sticky. The meat was small and disintegrated easily, making it a little hard to pick up with chopsticks, but at least you won't have to worry about bones. The presentation showed vibrant shades of browns shining through the entire plate, but its taste can be quite salty. My friend is a Bao fanatic, so anything related to bao, they will always get it. There is a saying about "I have eaten more salt than you have eaten rice." For them, you could say "They have eaten more bao than you have eaten salt." So they ordered Char Siew Bun (RM 3.80) and Red Bean Bun (RM 3.80). One basket consists of 3 buns. The buns were thick and the fillings were moderately less. The fillings were pretty normal, and the buns didn't excite my friend, so the verdict is disappointment. . 🚩MR. 🇲🇾 jb school’s out, scream and shout! my pals and i headed to jb for a super chill 2d1n getaway, where we indulged in comforting local foods and delicious cafe offerings. this post features some of the crowd-favourite local delicacies. —— 📍 oriental kopi [multiple outlets] ☁️ beef rendang with nasi lemak rice touted as one of their signatures, the rendang sauce coated both the tender beef and fragrant nasi lemak rice beautifully. the crispy peanuts and ikan bilis are worth mentioning too. my friends couldn’t handle the spice, but i thought the sambal had a decent balance of sweet and spicy. ☁️ chicken kway teow soup i was blown away the first time as it was the perfect comforting breakfast noodle soup. this time around, i thought the broth was a tad bit watery compared to the first time i had it, but it was still really umami. it comes with generous shredded chicken, plump prawns, and some greens. ☁️ belgium chocolate egg tart this limited edition egg tart had 2 layers of custard — luscious rich chocolate below, fragrant eggy custard on top. while i appreciate the novelty, i stand by the fact that their original portuguese egg tarts are still better. i mean, i bought 3 boxes home so~ 📍 grandpa yong [mount austin] ☁️ mee hoon kueh soup my stomach was acting up all week, so i went for the clear soup option. the mhk delivered that chewy, doughy bite that i love, while the clear soup was very light on the stomach. having ordered the small bowl, i was pleased with the generosity of ingredients. ☁️ chicken cutlet mee hoon kueh if you’re looking for something saucy and umami, the dry mhk has got your back. we loved that messy dark sauce that got all over our lips with every slurp. my friends had the chicken cutlet for that extra protein, but i wouldn’t say it was as impressionable as the side we got. ☁️ beancurd skin fish cake my friends convinced me to order a second plate of this — need i say more? while it has got that crisp without the oiliness, it would have been perfection if the fish cake filling was more evenly spread. —— stay tuned for more local recommendations!

My go to bakery near sutera mall now people are picking at the buns alarmingly fast everyday you have to go early in the day to avoid disappointment!! ⭐ Sticky cinnamon roll 肉桂面包卷(RM3.50) 🌰 this one completely STOLE THE SHOW FOR ME. I don't even like sticky buns/cinnamon flavoured items on a regular day, but this is light, sweet and hits you with a comforting spice that reminds you of scented candles on a warm autumn morning 🌄 the flavour of cinnamon is much more pronouced in this compared to other buns I've tried like breadtalk and even cinnabon! Rlly like the lack of sugar frosting that allows the bun to stay fresh in its own for longer and how chewy it is!! It's more fragrant than straight up sweet which I LOVE 💓 What's even more impressive is how well the nuts go with the bun!! An impressive amount of chonky walnuts lies hidden within each ring and provides the perfect cut to the sweetness with a savoury earthy nuttiness that isn't too overpowering, verbena rlly nailed it with this bun 🍞 will def be coming back for this!! ⭐ Chicken floss bun (RM3.80) rlly don't like chicken floss and personally felt that the mayo and floss were a bad combo, but my mom rlly loved it so maybe chicken floss bun lovers can take her word for it 😂 the mayo is creamy, tart and slightly cheesy ⭐ Chicken toast and cheese (RM3.50) this looked really cute so I actually had high expectations! (I forgot to take cross section aaaa) however it fell flat, tasted too 1-dimensional :( def better heated up, the ham and cheese frozen and solid didn't go quite well with the bread and the cheese/mayo concoction spread inside.
