“Supporters of Go Jen Go are part of an organization that is making a real impact on the lives of those fighting breast cancer. You are part of a genuine group of people who make the world a better place, know how to ease the pain a little, and make a smile brighter.” ~Sabrina Sabrina is a Go Jen Go grantee who was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2019. She received financial assistance from Go Jen Go during her treatment and was among the organization’s Operation Spread the Joy program recipients during the holidays. Added Sabrina, “They met me with all the gifts and were so pleasant in conversation with me. I felt like a part of their family as if I had known them forever.” She is a paramedic and has two children and a dog. “Thank you so much to the donors, race participants and volunteers for your love and support to those fighting this diagnosis. You are providing a hand to those in need, carrying them through such a hard time.” ~Brittany M. Brittany is a Go Jen Go grantee who was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2022, after advocating for further assessment after pain while breastfeeding her youngest daughter. She was 36 and had no family history of breast cancer. Thankfully, it was caught early on and Brittany had a bilateral mastectomy. A registered nurse and a married mother of four children, ages 13, 9, 3 and 2, Brittany received financial assistance from Go Jen Go during her treatment and was among the recipients of the organization’s Operation Spread the Joy program during the holidays. I had a reoccurrence in 2022 and needed surgery. As a single mom and public-school educator during my reoccurrence, a friend who I trained for marathons with and fellow breast cancer survivor, recommended that I apply to receive funds from Go Jen Go. That money was so helpful in paying bills and also made me feel seen. I have been running since my early 20’s and refer to it as my moving meditation and paying rent to my health. My grandma was known for being hard working, strong-willed, and an incredible fighter in the end. She left a legacy of children and grandchildren that were taught to ‘give more than you take.’ Breast cancer took her life way too soon. My other family members were thankfully able to win their battles with breast cancer. They are tough ladies and all three are role models for strength and determination. We are shining a spotlight on Carrie Flock - @msnc2021 - who was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2023 and is a Go Jen Go grant recipient. The grant helped offset the portion of the paycheck she was no longer receiving. “It was a true blessing when I received the email and broke into happy tears,” said Carrie about receiving a grant from Go Jen Go. As part of her commitment to giving back to our breast cancer community and honoring her mom, who passed away from breast cancer, and her aunt, who passed away from lung cancer, Carrie participated in several breast cancer 5Ks and fundraisers, including the 2023 Pink Cupcake Walk. When we asked for help for a family in need last Friday, our Go Jen Go community stepped up in a big way. 💗💚 We received more than $1,300 in donations and gift cards. We were able to provide prepared food from @thebutlerspantryclt , grocery gift cards (@walmart @foodlion ), supplies, and other items to comfort and support ‘J’ and her family who faced a dire situation. Following ‘J’s first treatment, her spouse (who was also her employer) left, leaving her with 5 children and no income. This forced her to leave her home and move to another location. We are helping ‘J’ with her living expenses and wanted to do more to help stock her pantry and refrigerator with food. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for showing ‘J’ and her children what our community is all about and for the huge outpouring of support. ‘J’ shared these words with us: “I was in tears when I opened that card. With every crazy thing that happens in this world, you don't think that there are people with such golden, beautiful hearts. In memory of our beloved friend, Mood Williams, we have created the Mood Williams Camp Scholarship Fund for Go Jen Go families. Mood loved Jen and the foundation's mission to help local breast cancer patients in need. As Go Jen Go families deal with the financial burden of a breast cancer diagnosis, camp and extracurricular activities for their children become an expense that cannot be considered. We know the benefits of children having normalcy and an outlet as they navigate a parent's cancer diagnosis. This fund will help provide camps and activities for these children and what we think will lift their 'mood' as our dear friend, Mood, would always do with his quick smile, helpful hands, and bear hugs.
