Het bestuur van Signs of Hope bestaat uit vijf leden die allemaal Nederlands zijn, maar in vier verschillende landen op drie verschillende continenten wonen!🌎 Famke is natuurlijk in Uganda, John woont in Canada, Rachel woont in Oostenrijk en Sonja en Bea in Nederland. Famke en Rachel zijn nu allebei in Nederland op bezoek, en dus was het een goede kans om met vier van de vijf bestuursleden af te spreken. Grappig hoe het toch heel vertrouwd voelt, ook al zien we elkaar dus veelal alleen online. Grief is universal, we all feel it, albeit differently. I’m a believer in signs & this beautiful moon in the daytime sky was a biggie. We celebrated the magical life of a dear friend on Saturday. She transitioned in November & those who loved her gathered to remember, mourn, & celebrate her as a community. I believe the signs of her presence & love were abundantly clear. This daytime moon smiled down on us all day- our friend group, the moon sisters, have a special fondness for the moon. The warmth of the sunshine allowed us to be outdoors all day in an area of central PA that has been cloudy, rainy, & chilly. A friend spotted a tiny feather with a pretty blue dot, she is certain this was also a sign. The courage of loved ones to share stories & memories through tears, followed by the laughter of bad karaoke another sign. And today, a very persistent female cardinal tapping her beak on the window, she was persistent until I acknowledged her, I said I see you & I feel you. Do you have a message for me? She flew to a close by branch & I heard her say - I’m free 💜. To quote a friend, when someone like her dies, she doesn’t go away. Her light just shines differently now. In 1943, in the middle of WWII, the Vogue Mercantile Institute of NYC held a contest open to all non-professional artists to design a dishware pattern that reflected the tastes and spirit of the American women of the 1940s. This pattern called Gardenia was one of three selected. It was then replicated on a line of dishes made by Homer Laughlin and made available to buyers around the country. 🌸 Gardenias are symbols of love, hope, purity and protection. We can’t help but think what a great flower choice this was for all the women who bravely and beautifully held up the home front during the war. The ones who did their best to cook for, care for and feed the people around them. The ones who strived to set a pretty table, to make a visually pleasing interior and to create a welcoming atmosphere at home despite all the stress, anxiety and troubling situations going on in the world. 🌸 We searched high and low to find the name of the woman who designed this pattern in 1943 but have yet to uncover her name. It’s the only missing piece in a really nice story about vintage dish design. Hopefully we’ll run across her name soon, but in the meantime, we have her platter in the shop. Reprogramming that internal dialogue can be so tricky, but I know it’s essential to my healing. I have a few wins from this week, so I thought I’d share. 1- My hair has been thicker and growing so fast. It’s healthy and full for the first time in years. 2- When I do barbell curls, I usually have to stick to 5’s on each side because going up to 10’s makes my wrist pop in and out of socket. Yesterday I was able to use 10’s on both sides of the barbell and my wrist stayed stable in place the entire time. I think my ligaments are finally strengthening and stabilizing. This is pretty big for my ehlers danlos syndrome. 3- Bench press has been my nemesis and so very slow to develop. My goal has been getting one rep at 100. Yesterday i tested it because I felt like I still had some in the tank after my set and I got 3 at 100 (thank you Gavin for the push and encouragement). 4- During the last sisterhood, I struggled to get 255 up as my one rep max. It was ugly, so I counted my one rep max at 245. I hadn’t tested it again since then, and I had no clue where I was at. A few weeks ago I deadlifted 255 twice, and it went up so much easier. Today I did 265 twice. I’ve been focusing on fueling my body, managing my stress, healing from the past, and building back up. It can be such a slow and discouraging process, and I’m so thankful for the tangible signs of growth and healing that I’ve seen. I’m so very thankful for everyone who has been part of my journey. Talk about a spiritual SIGN!! 🤯 For those who don’t know, I’ve been spiritually connected from birth - I literally do not remember a time when I wasn’t talking to spirits, guides, loved ones and picking up on energy… its always been my normal. So to say I’m used to signs and symbology is an understatement, but my Guides never cease to surprise me 😆 Now before you read further I’m going to give you a TRIGGER WARNING… if you don’t like creatures with 8 legs, please stop reading now 🛑 Last night I was having a pretty intense dream (standard) which included spiders and scorpions… fun fact; I have major arachnophobia so the dream wasn’t pleasant 😅 Now the interesting part is, my son woke me up from that exact dream during the night (also standard 🥲) and something just felt off… I took him back into his room and what do you know, a massive huntsman spider was in his space 🫣 A panic, a desperate plea to hubby to do his duty and remove said-spider and a quick energy cleanse of the space and we were back to snuggly sleep in no time 🥰 So what’s the message behind this? Surely there’s got to be a deeper meaning when there was such synchronicity?! Nu zijn er buiten grote wasbakken gemaakt. De eerste wasbak wordt met water en sop gevuld, de tweede met alleen water voor het afspoelen. Elke pauze heeft er een andere klas corvee. 😁Leuk weetje: hoewel we bij de lunch warm eten (maïspap en bonen) is er geen bestek om af te wassen. This is your reminder to pay attention to the beauty that’s right in front of you! And that after darkness comes the light! This sky caught me by surprise. It was a raw, cloudy, gray day and a thick misty fog hung at the horizon and above the water. I love the sunsets here at my happy place. But it looked like this one wouldn’t be worth watching. Do y’all believe in signs? . I used to feel that I did, 100% Now I think I’m more jaded about it, as I am with most things, bc it feels scary and pointless to believe in things like hope or signs. . You’re scared to hope for the future, you’re scared to feel good, or even just ok, bc you know it never lasts. When you have a period of stability, where things feel bearable and maybe even good sometimes, where you’re not desperate to dissociate every second of your life away just to escape how your existence feels for a minute…. You can’t relax and you can’t enjoy it bc you’re always waiting for the ball to drop, the inevitable thing that’s gonna take it all away. . All of this to say, as many of you may know, I’ve been experiencing the most severe lows of my life for.. awhile now. I used to try to remind myself on the bad days that I’ve had lows before, it’s part of bipolar, and that like before, it will pass. But this one was and is different. I’ve thought I finally hit bottom so many times the past couple years only to see myself sink lower and lower than I ever have, different from what I’ve learned over time how to cope with. . On V-Day I got up, got out of the house, and got back to therapy. It felt impossible and terrifying and insurmountable, like every single thing has throughout this period. I had written a list of all the things that have me paralyzed and debilitated on a daily basis on my way there bc my working memory is still recovering from the traumatic experience of my ECT journey, and I sobbed my way through that list bc without it I’d get distracted in session bc again, ADHD and brain damage. And it ended up feeling ok, my therapist helped me remember I’m not a failure, I’m not a lost cause. . And then, when I walked outside after that session, I found this rock. I immediately joked to Joe that “holy shit, I found hope, I never thought that’d happen” . And idk. It made me smile.
