Help feed county residents in need by simply leaving canned goods for your postal carrier on Saturday, May 11th! Stamp Out Hunger has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States. Held on the second Saturday in May each year, Stamp Out Hunger is an event of the National Association of Letter Carriers which has had United Way’s partnership since 1994. Last year alone, more than 40 million pounds of food were collected by letter carriers picking up non-perishable items from residences along their routes. The need is great, and you can help. According to organizers of the event, food collected in Chautauqua County will be delivered directly to the local food pantries in our community. Items collected closer to Buffalo will go to food banks there as well as FeedMore WNY. When it comes to margaritas, anytime is the perfect time. So why not add another margarita recipe to your collection? The unique combination of sweet pineapple and spicy jalapeño is sure to send your taste buds into overdrive! Makes 2 Margaritas Ingredients: For fiery salt rim • 2 tbsps. of kosher salt • 1 tsp. of chili powder Ingredients: For the margarita • 1 tbsp. lime juice • 1-2 jalapeño slices • ¼ c. silver tequila • ¾ c. pineapple juice • ⅛ c. triple sec Instructions: 1. Make the fiery salt by combining salt and chili powder. Rim glasses with lime juice, followed by fiery salt mixture. 2. Muddle the jalapeño slices with lime juice in a shaker. If you don’t happen to have a muddler, use the handle of a wooden spoon. 3. Place 1½ c. ice in the shaker, and add tequila, pineapple juice, and triple sec. Shake, and pour into rimmed glasses. 4. Happy Volunteer Recognition Day to all the community members who help us throughout the year — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀! Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the many donors in southern Chautauqua County and the help of volunteers bagging groceries, Wegmans surpassed its goal for the 2024 Register Scan Campaign! By having cashiers collect at the registers in the last few weeks, Wegmans was able to raise $20,704 for United Way of Southern Chautauqua County! Thank you to Wegmans and it’s employees for all you do, and for your help in funding essential programs in this community which are used by our family, friends and neighbors. The support and accomplishments of our local Wegmans store is nothing new! Last year’s register scan campaign similarly surpassed its set goal, generating $19,957 in donations for UWSCC! Though the set end date of the campaign was today, Saturday, April 20, Wegmans hit its goal on Wednesday — and was the first location of the many stores in its division to reach its goal! 🚨 Anatomy Warehouse 2nd annual Murph Challenge alert! (Memorial Day - more details to follow!) 🇺🇸As most of you may know from being with me for several years, ‘The Murph’ is a big part of our Memorial Day tradition (2024 marks my 9th year in a row). ⚓️This WOD is performed in memory of Navy Seal Michael Murphy and in honor of (for me) my US Navy son and the rest of the United States Military men and women. 💪🏼This WOD of the day can be performed “as prescribed” meaning you must wear a 20 pound vest throughout the entire workout and the workout must be done in the exact order listed here. OR, you can do it like I do, “not as prescribed” and not wear a vest, use assisted pull-ups if needed and break up the WOD, starting and finishing with 1 mile run. All done for time. 🗽Please join me in honoring our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day, before you head off to your barbecues. This is an emotional event for me every year and if you’re there, you’ll usually find me in tears as I finish the second mile. Thank you to @PeaPod_And_Juniper for donating this beautiful basket to be raffled off during our 𝟐𝟓𝟎 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 party being thrown by Wegmans! 🧺🌺🎟️🥳🎉 Scheduled for Thursday, May 2 at the Celoron American Legion, the UWSCC 250 Club event will feature basket raffles, split club and blind bag auctions as well as food and drinks available for purchase. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m with drawings starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 and available for sale at Wegmans on Fairmount Avenue. Only 250 tickets will be sold. This is a family friendly event, and one ticket will get your family in the doors! No one under the age of 18 will be allowed to purchase tickets or participate in the drawings, but are welcome to attend with a ticket-holder. During the event, all tickets will be drawn. The 1st and every 10th ticket will win $40. The last five tickets drawn will win $100, $150, $200 and $500 respectively. All losing tickets will then be compiled for a final drawing for $50. Winners don’t have to be present to receive their prize money.
