These last two episodes we’ve done have been hard to talk about, but it needs to be shared. Kaysera stops pretty places was only 18 years old. Back in 2019 she posted a video of police officers beating her 15 year old brother (who is in a wheelchair) and posted it online. Shortly after that, she went missing. We don’t know for sure what happened to her but the police department did not make urgency of her disappearance and withheld information from the family when kayseras body was found. Also the coroner refused to give Kayseras body to her family unless they cremated her first. It’s all very suspicious. Didn't realize how tired, actually exhausted I was. Made my bread orders, Baby Shower w Awesome Dinner. Got home, ment to have a Power Nap & Slept! I know it's from Busy last months/years of survival skills and mode. I couldn't be more Appreciative & Thankful for answered Prayers, Family/Friends, and Resources. *The little things matter 😇 the tub drain unfroze this morning The wash basin is in the tub. I was starting to pour the wash H20 into the toilet. Either way is fine. At least our Toilet Top H20 didn't freeze. Like I saw on Billings news and that was in the city😂 It the 1st Winter here in Black Lodge that I've open the stove to help heat the house. I left the Grease Fan on and woke up early this morning and turned in off and opened up the stove *Laid down and few minutes later something fell?! I could tell it was a piece of silverware. Mort "What was that?" The dishes saying they're waiting to be washed. Nothing in this house can harm us. From my learnings: I know my Angels like that, I know their w me. I've been missing my Loved one for Several months and my girl #JusticeForKaysera so much. Last Xmas was hard. Montaya and Jay helped decorate the Tree 2023. Plz keep our aunt Jocelyn Costa children & family Louisa Costa in Prayers. It made me smile knowing she'd get to see my Dad, Moma Sis.... We've lost a number of Tribal members this past months. I'm Thankful they made it up there in age, kept sharp minds, & kept everyone on there toes. 🙌 We went back sleep. Of all times the Alarm went off at 6:30. I know, I don't have a order to start yet? - ‘Tis the season for colonialism. In this time, I’d like to bring attention to Missing or Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). One case that seems unfathomable (though it happens so often) is that of Kaysera Stops Pretty Places. She was a smart, funny, talented athlete, artist, & actress with big dreams. 10 days after her 18th birthday, Kaysera was murdered in Big Horn County, Montana, after going missing on 8/24/19 from Hardin, Montana. A few days before her death, she’d attended the Crow Fair with family, & posted a vid of her brother (who uses a wheelchair), being beaten by the Deputies of the Big Horn County Sheriff’s dept. On 08/29/19, her body, wrapped in plastic, was found by a jogger, face down in a pile of tree trimmings behind homes in a residential neighborhood. The family, desperately searching all along, was not informed until 9/11/19. After the Coroner (Terry Bullis) took her remains to his personal funeral home, she was identified by the crime lab, the medical examiner ruling the death as undetermined, the police later citing hypothermia. The family was coerced into cremating her against their personal cultural beliefs, destroying any possible evidence. Though the circumstances indicated foul play, the FBI, Montana DOJ, & the Sheriff’s Office haven’t investigated, despite being provided with tips & evidence. The family has STILL not received the police report of the case. Big Horn County now has one of the highest rates of MMIW, but they refused to investigate Kaysera’s murder, quoting “no jurisdiction”, as it was less than half a mile off the border, despite no evidence indicating where she was murdered. Though NOTHING can justify such a beautiful life lost, financial support is needed for the reward for info leading to the apprehension of her killer(s). According to the family, people in their communities strain to come forward with information, fearful of retribution, so a reward may help in getting justice for Kaysera. This beautiful girl on your screens is Kaysera Stops Pretty Places. Kaysera was found dead in a yard in Hardin, Montana — near her home on the Crow Reservation. Kaysera had been partying with a few friends on the night of her death, and this factor combined with her being an indigenous woman, have made it very hard for her family to get answers related to her death. She was 18 years old and about to start her senior year of high school. Authorities have been dishonest with her family and have put forth practically no investigation, even though they make it sound as if she just dropped dead in a stranger’s yard, which as we know, doesn’t really happen. UNSOLVED: Kaysera Stops Pretty Places was an 18yr old woman who was also a member of the Crow, Northern Cheyenne, Mandan, Hidasta, and Arikara Nations. On the night of August 24th, she was belatedly celebrating her birthday with a few friends, but sadly this was the last time she was seen alive. Her grandmother and aunt reported her missing that very same night and the following day, August 25th, however, law enforcement never sent an alert, filed a police report, neither a missing person report for Kaysera. On August 29th, her body was found in the backyard of a residential home, yet the family wasn't notified until September 11th - NEARLY 2 WEEKS LATER! On the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, #MMIW, May 5, 2023, the National Portrait Gallery (@smithsoniannpg) hosted artist Anna Tsouhlarakis, Dine’/Creek (@annatskis) as she highlighted the #MMIW Crisis. Anna created pieces of art, and they were walked through the museum and placed in various locations where visitors could see them and ask questions regarding them. “Portrait of an Indigenous Womxn [Removed]” featured Kaysera Stops Pretty Places, who went missing in August 2019. Kaysera’s portrait was placed in front of the portrait of President Andrew Jackson during the performance. Jackson was instrumental in negotiating treaties that removed Indigenous peoples from their land before he was President. But in office, Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act, which displaced and forcibly removed over 40,000 Indigenous people from the southeastern part of the United States. Policies like Indian Removal helped to inflict violence against Indigenous peoples and Indigenous women and have helped to foster a climate of injustice that continues today. On the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples, "Portrait of an Indigenous Womxn [Removed]" was presented at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. This first performance highlighted Kaysera Stops Pretty Places from Montana and Aubrey Dameron from Oklahoma. It was an honor to place their portraits in the museum and hear people ask questions and learn of this movement and their stories. Thank you to the families for allowing me to share their images. Thank you to the NPG (curators, staff, and security) for giving me an opportunity to help highlight this issue and thank you to my brother for performing with me. As I was taking one last photo of the installation before I took the artwork down, a female tourist came up to me, pointed at the portrait of Kaysera, and said "I hope you know how important this issue is." She had spoken to the museum educator about why this portrait was placed here and was now taking up the issue herself. It reminded me that actions like this matter and open the hearts and minds of those who experience it. It's been hard to pickup the Pieces of my broken heart. The pains of 2019. I'm making progress slowly. In the mornings, or some point of the days I still feel OMG. The years of tears still flow inwardly, but now I'm holding them back less. My Heart still requires Justice ‼️ Wether they know it or not, We are & will. Yesterday after the Run For Kaysera 5k & 1 Mile memorial run/walk, we went to eat brunch. 3 different ladies came and asked Crystal about Run For Kaysera. She spoke from her heart of what she could and they were directed go to the Run For Kaysera website to find out more of how they could help. Tshirts have always been an important way for me in my own messages to spread what we need to hear about important issues. I'm glad Yolanda and the family/friends continue to push for Justice and Awareness. When you wear what you support and what you believe in, people do ask questions. I wore my Show My Sons shirt yesterday as well (MMIW Prevention Movement), and I was commented on by a couple of strangers for the quote in the back: "Raising My Sons To Be A Man That Your Daughter Doesn't Have To Recover From". Hight light of my day yesterday 🙏🙌 getting the Tepee finally setup. I got said: "It's almost over" 😳🤔🤨😅😂 in different tones🤦♀️🤣 "Nope not till I take down the Tepee. We're still here. 😎🥰✊" A bread order called for a friendly reminder. Lol when I told her where just now going up. (Earlier picture) She was on the way, to do the same. My sister's in Pryor District were also. So I wasn't alone 😁🥳 I even saw one going up this evening 😎 We didn't get into the tight squeeze this year, I busted out LOL cooking Frybread today. " Hey a upper deck would look good too. 🤔🌿 perfect space atm for another set of Harbors 😊 but that parking would have to move up top. Then most ppl don't want walk....my mind went drifting. Took Aspntz out to the Wolf Mountains yesterday. Man those roads are being neglected to the look out. It's been that way for years now. I still coulda made it through, having to straddle the ruts. Watched as local farmers made their way up with their. Equipment and Truck. 🚘 Picked a different route 🌱 Stop and go. Went were we could make it and and settled at a spot. Walked here and their... I want to thank everyone who came to our Native Community led event for the MMIW National Awareness Day. I most want to thank the courageous families of Jermain Charlo, Kaysera Stops Pretty Places, and Charlene Longtime Sleeping, who stood and spoke on behalf of their loved ones who were murdered and are still missing. I also want to thank the bravery and leadership of Whisper Horseman's testimony regarding her SA and how tribal authorities/agencies failed in trauma responses and inadequate advocacy for her and her child at the time of the incident. In community and leadership positions, realities of injustice are what we must continue to bring to the forefront. There are immediate Direct Service Gaps that must be prioritized, and those agencies must be provided with trauma-informed cultural training regarding sensitive cases for Indigenous survivors of violence. A crisis hotline to call is helpful, and national women organizations are helpful. However, Families need Direct and Ongoing Services for their cases 365days out of the year. We will not rest until adequate services for all MMIW families and Survivors of Violence are met. We are not afraid to hold any agency and organization accountable. They must provide the care and services as if they were their family members and never give up on their case and crisis response. #justiceforjermain #justiceforkaysera #justiceforcharlene #justiceforwhisper

On August 14, 2019, Kaysera Stops Pretty Places (Crow/Northern Cheyenne) celebrated her 18th birthday. She played basketball and football, ran cross country, and performed in several school theater productions. She had dreams of becoming an actress and a performer. She had a lot to look forward to. Ten days later, on August 24, 2019, she went missing in a suburban neighborhood of Hardin, Montana, less than a half mile off of the Crow Reservation. Her body was found in the same neighborhood where she was last seen alive, on the morning of August 29, 2019. Law enforcement, however, did not inform the family that Kaysera’s body had been found until September 11—almost two weeks later. Since September 11, 2019, the family has worked diligently to collect and share evidence regarding Kaysera’s murder and the suspicious circumstances surrounding her tragic death. The family has shared significant evidence and tips with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office, and the Montana Department of Justice. So far, all three of these agencies have done absolutely nothing. Kaysera deserves justice. Her family deserves justice.
