Rhonda Gardiner Age: 33 Rhonda was found tied by her neck to a tree trunk in June of 2004 in La Plonge First Nation, Saskatchewan. While her death was ruled a suicide, her family says they don’t believe this was the case, and claimed that Rhonda had bruises on her body when she was found. They said that several emergency responders and a police officer told them that the death seemed suspicious, and her position would have been impossible for her to put herself into. Rhonda was apparently in an abusive relationship, although it is unclear if her family thinks the man was involved in her death. 💙 Her Name is Natalia Karaczyn 💙 TW: Strangulation Natalia Karaczyn was a 30 year old Mother of Three. Originally from Poland, she lived in Sligo Town. Based on news sources, it is unknown whether Natalia had a job or was employed. Prior to her death, she had separated from her husband but they still lived in the same home for the sake of their children. 6 years ago today, on 29th April 2018, Natalia was reported missing by her sister. Natalia's estranged husband was arrested and her body was found in woodlands about 5 minutes drive away from her home two days after she was first reported missing. Following the discovery of her remains, her estranged husband was charged with her murder. The postmortem found that Natalia had been strangled. The first trial for Natalia's death began in March 2020 but was halted due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The second trial began in mid 2021. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not to murder. The court heard that Natalia had returned home at 6am following a night out when he demanded to know where she had been, an argument ensued, and she was strangled. Her sister reported her missing later that day. He had sent a text to Natalia’s phone asking where she was after she was killed and later told Gardaí that she had been killed by Travellers. In a series of texts after they had split, he begged for them to get back together but she was repeatedly adamant with him that she didn't want this to happen, told him to move out of the family home and that he needed to stop texting her. Two days before her death, Natalia told him never to ask again where she was going or what she doing and with whom. He had also secretly filmed Natalia in the shower and bath after she told him she no longer wanted to be with him. He was found guilty of murdering Natalia and was sentenced to life in prison. Following the verdict, Natalia's sister described her as a "loving mum, sister and daughter who had plans and dreams that will never come true" On the 6th Anniversary of her death, we are thinking of Natalia and her family today and always. 💙 Her Name is Samantha Walsh 💙 TW: Beating Samantha Walsh was a 31 year old Mother of Four from Lisduggan, Co. Waterford. She had completed an addiction programme in the year before her death. A week prior to her death, she had moved into an apartment in Waterford City as a squatter with a man she had met whilst on the treatment programme. 7 years ago today, on the 28th April 2017, Samantha was beaten to death in the apartment. The man she had been living with was subsequently arrested. The postmortem found that Samantha died from blunt force trauma to her head and face, with haemorrhage, inhalation of blood, and brain swelling. She had 10 lacerations on her head and face, and her nasal bones were fractured. Neck compression was a contributing factor in her death, and there was a fracture of the hyoid bone. The trial began in 2018, and he pleaded guilty to murdering Samantha. The court heard that Samantha had just returned from an AA meeting when she was killed. Gardaí were called to the apartment twice in the week Samantha was killed, and each time, they convinced him to leave, but he and Samantha later made up, and he moved back in. It's estimated that Samantha was killed at 1am. He went to their neighbour at 9am, telling him that Samantha had left at 7am. to visit her children and that she would be gone for the week. He and the neighbour then collected their dole and bought heroin, going back to the neighbour's apartment to smoke it. After he overdosed and became unconscious, the neighbour and his partner later called the emergency services. While treating him, the paramedic discovered a note, saying that he had murdered Samantha and that she was in the bedroom. He was found guilty of murdering Samantha and was sentenced to life in prison. In his victim impact statement, Samantha’s brother said: "(She was a) loving daughter, mother, sister, and auntie, who always had a smile on her face... she had a kind and helpful nature and was beautiful, inside and out." On the 7th Anniversary of her death, we are thinking of Samantha and her family today and always. Her Name is Samantha Walsh, may she rest in peace 💙

They stayed for the speakers and heard harrowing stories and heartbreakingly palpable anger and grief. The time for talking and reviews is over. Now it is time for funding proportionate to the seriousness of the problem. Now it is time to act on systemic change. To the allies who came today, we see you and thank you for your solidarity. Now we need you to speak up every time you see or hear something said or done which you know is not right. Lead by example, end the misogyny, help end men's violence. It is not manly to hurt women. It is three years since the Women's March4Justice, I hoped we wouldn't need to march again. But this year women are killed at the rate of one every four days. Disappointed Yet Again: Reflections on the Canberra No More Violence Rally I attended today… Today, I attended the No More Violence rally in Canberra, hoping for a glimmer of progress in the fight for women’s safety. Instead, I was met with the disappointing sight of the Prime Minister and Minister for Women using the event as a mere photo opportunity to promote their own agendas. They spoke briefly, offered empty promises, and then swiftly departed without even hearing the voices of the people they claim to represent. It’s disheartening to witness this cycle repeat itself every year, with the majority of rally attendees being women who are tired of empty rhetoric and inaction. We need more than just words; we need tangible steps towards systemic change. It’s time for increased investment in systematic change and education that focussed on a positive construct of masculinity, not just more support services for victims. It’s an epidemic, we need comprehensive reforms in our educational systems and family dynamics. Here in Australia, the construct of masculinity is often toxic and contributes to a culture of violence. If we want to truly address the epidemic of violence against women, we must challenge these harmful norms and redefine what it means to be a man in our society. As a parent to both a son and a daughter, I am deeply concerned about the future they will inherit if we fail to dismantle these destructive systems. Our children deserve better than to grow up in a world where gender-based violence is normalized and excused. It’s time for action, not just empty promises. Let’s demand accountability from our leaders and work towards a future where everyone feels safe and valued, regardless of gender. #Femicide in #Iran: Brother Kills Sister in the Name of “ #Honor” #Hengaw; Sunday, April 28, 2024 A young woman identified as Sajedeh from Mashhad, located in the Khorasan Razavi province, was killed by her brother under what are referred to as “honor” motives. This incident marks the sixth case of femicide and the second case of honor killing in Razavi Khorasan Province within the past four months. According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Thursday, April 25, 2024, Sajedeh, aged 23 and originally from the village of Koor Deh, a suburb of Mashhad, was murdered by her 17-year-old brother. State and local media reports indicate that the family of the victim initially attempted to attribute her death to natural causes after transferring her body to the hospital. The 17-year-old perpetrator, identified as Hanzaleh, confessed after his arrest that he felt humiliated by the community following his sister’s divorce. To prevent what he perceived as dishonor, he suffocated his sister in a rural stall. According to data compiled by the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Razavi Khorasan province has witnessed at least six cases of femicide during the first four months of 2024, with two being classified as honor killings.

The Port Arthur massacre was a tragic mass shooting that occurred in April 1996 in Tasmania, Australia. A male gunman killed 35 people and injured 23 others at the historic Port Arthur tourist site. This event led to significant changes in Australian gun laws, including the implementation of stricter regulations and a buyback program for certain firearms. Women played a pivotal role in advocating for change in the wake of the massacre. Fuelled by their grief and determination to prevent such horrors from recurring, they became outspoken champions of gun control and violence prevention measures. Their voices, amplified by their experiences, were instrumental in shaping public discourse and influencing policy decisions. 💙 Her Name is Nichola Sweeney 💙 TW: Stabbing Nichola was a 20 year old Business Student from Rochestown, Co. Cork. She also worked part-time in a café. 22 years ago today, on the 27th April 2002, Nichola was getting ready in her home with her friend Sinéad to go on a night out when an intruder broke into the house. Nichola's parents were abroad at the time. He had two knives with him and stabbed Sinéad 20 times and stabbed Nichola 11 times. While Sinéad survived, Nichola did not. When the emergency services arrived, the intruder went to his home to clean himself up and then gathered on the road outside the Nichola's house with other neighbours, and even gave gardaí directions to the house. Sinéad was able to give a full description of him to gardaí who immediately realised he was the intruder. While he did live closeby, he was unknown to both Nichola and Sinéad, meaning the attacks were completely random. The trial began later in 2002 and he pleaded guilty to the murder of Nichola and attempted murder of Sinéad. He offered no motive for the attacks but said voices in his head told him to kill someone. The court heard he had previously attacked a group of people with a hurley. He was found guilty of murdering Nichola and for the attempted murder of Sinéad. The judge treated both as separate crimes, sentencing him to life in prison for the murder and an additional 15 years for the attempted murder. He was unsuccessful in appealing the consecutive nature of the sentences. The judge instead directed that the sentences be swapped around so that he would first serve the 15 years for the attempted murder of Sinéad and then begin serving his life sentence for the murder of Nichola. Due to good behaviour, he only served 3 quarters of the 15 year sentence before serving the life sentence. Neither Sinéad or Nichola's family were notified when the life sentence had begun early. At her funeral, Nichola's father said: "Our beautiful daughter is gone forever. She lit up so many lives in so many ways" On the 22nd Anniversary of her death, we are thinking of Nichola, her family and Sinéad today and always. Rena Fox Age: 38 Rena was found dead near Kakabeka Falls near Thunder Bay, Ontario on February 28th, 2003. Her family was originally told that her death was by natural causes, but her daughter claims she saw her mothers face covered in injuries at her funeral. The Coroner has still not made a determination in the exact cause of her death. It is not known exactly when Rena went missing, but her daughter had heard that her mother was at a bar in Thunder Bay when she was approached by two men who began to harass her. She tried to call a friend for help, but by the time the friend arrived, Rena was gone. After an influential Ranipur family faced backlash and police crackdown following the death of a 10-year-old girl, Fatima Fariro, in their haveli, the dacoits from the katcha area have vowed to protect them. Fatima Firoro’s death led to a nationwide outcry and a postmortem examination report confirmed that she had been subjected to rape before her death. Asad Shah, the son-in-law of a leading pir in Ranipur, has been arrested in the case. Now the cousin of Fatima has disclosed that the deal has been made to take blood money and give up on the case.
