Many of you are wondering why the Prajwal Revanna videos didn’t hit the news cycle before since they have been doing rounds for months. There are two reasons. One is that he got a court gag order last year itself claiming videos may come. Picture one is a list we made of other gag orders secured by politicians for different reasons in Bengaluru. Bengaluru courts have a habit of giving gag orders ex-parte, which is, the other side is not heard. @shivaniikava and I went through court records to find more than 600 cases against the media. (Story link is on my comment box and Insta story). Let me give you a comparison. The Hindu newspaper has zero suits against it in Chennai courts in the last three years, but has 199 in Bengaluru. Everyone is going to court and getting gag orders. So in Prajwal’s case there was a gag order and no FIR or complaint. Most media could not report it. I don’t understand what stopped the BJP from giving him ticket or what stopped Congress govt from giving victims courage to file complaint. These women got no help and their non-blurred videos are all over. 3 attempted suicide is what I was told. Now back to the courts. I have been saying for years that what is happening in Bengaluru is RIDICULOUS. The Karnataka High Court has to put a stop to this. Now you may ask, why can’t the media ignore the gag order. I can tell you TNM’s case. A few years ago we had info on a #MeToo case, man got a gag order. But we published story with facts and faced a contempt of court case. Last year, a Dalit man died after his colleagues in a big company allegedly harassed him. We reported it despite a gag order and face two cases. This isn’t easy and the courts aren’t making it any easier. Running around in courts, and hiring lawyers is what we are left to do. This is why we ask for legal find help sometimes. Personally, I had decided to file a PIL against this and my lawyers have been drawing up the petition. Two big media houses may join the petition. Let’s see

Credit: @tate How can art be used to disrupt and challenge patriarchal systems? In Bosnian Girl artist Šejla Kamerić stares directly at the camera, holding our gaze. The overlaid text quotes graffiti by an unknown Dutch UN soldier found at an army barracks in Srebrenica during the Bosnian war (1992–95). Using the stylised poses found in fashion photography, Kamerić both challenges and embodies the soldier’s words. In this act, she stands for all women who have experienced prejudice because of their gender or identity. She hints at how women become markers of national identity, their bodies politicised as a way to uphold territories and borders. In her gaze, she asks us as viewers to be accountable for our own ways of looking. Writing about her intentions, Kamerić said: ‘We live in a constant war where the female body is used as territory. ‘Bosnian Girl’ is not me, but any girl or woman… anyone whose rights are denied. This work comes from Bosnia, but it tells a universal story of prejudice and bigotry.’ Bosnian Girl was first shown as street posters in the artist’s hometown of Sarajevo on 11 July 2003, the eighth anniversary of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide. In 1993, during the Bosnian War, Srebrenica had been declared a safe zone by UN Protection Forces. The town was heavily populated by Bosnian Muslims escaping persecution by Bosnian Serb forces. In 1995 the Bosnian Serb Army invaded the town. The resulting genocide and war crimes remain one of the largest failures of the United Nations to protect those under their care. Bosnian Girl became a symbol of these failings, carried on placards at marches and protests. Beyond this, Bosnian Girl suggests the patriarchal structures that work to define women, and the possibility of art to contribute to the emancipation from them. Denken wir an #metoo, #metwo, #blacklivesmatter - Medienkompetenz und demokratische Werte müssen stärker in der Schule vermittelt werden, denn die Zustimmungswerte für die AfD sind unter Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen alarmierend. - Es ist fahrlässig, dass die Bundesregierung die Projektmittel für demokratische Bildung an Schulen gekürzt hat (Beispiel: Respect Coaches). - Zeigt Zivilcourage in sozialen Netzwerken und auf der Straße Die Veranstaltung ist eine Kooperation von EUROPE DIRECT Essen der Stadt Essen, ZECHE CARL und CORRECTIV. Community Building in Non Monogamy (and beyond): some thoughts on the differences between communities, ‘scenes’ and activist movements Social relationships that begin and grow with deeply held values centered on caring, empowering, and loving relationships with our fellow humans — and our non human relations too — have the power to change the world. But, are all group spaces with shared values, goals, and activities necessarily a community? In non-monogamous spaces, what is often referred to as a “community” is more like a “scene”, a socialising space where people come together for a short time. This might take the form of a discussion group, a social meetup, a book club, a board game night, a play party, or otherwise: it’s a temporary collection of humans, who may only engage with a small number of others outside of that space. Outside of non-monogamous spaces, social scenes could include Ecstatic Dance, Conscious Intimacy groups, hobby-based clubs, fandoms, and so forth. Social scenes tend to be open to most and welcoming of diversity, but they often lack the means for accountability, and tend to be limited in their capacity to explore the causes behind a lack of diversity. They rarely lead to any meaningful systemic changes. A ‘movement’ is a unified vision of change that brings people together for the purpose of action (be it on a small scale or large). Activism-based movements tend to include accountability, social values, diversity, equity, inclusion, and often have a strong sense of what social justice means to them. ‘Membership’ in a movement may be formal or informal, but people are usually vetted in some way. In non-monogamy, ‘movements’ support education, advocacy, & legal change. People in Non-monogamous movements are often keen to explore non-monogamy as part of a larger vision of counter-culture, decolonisation, anti-racist, and deeply feminist ways of living.
