What a week! 3 different performances in 3 different styles. So so grateful for this opportunity. 'Sightless' on Monday, I dedicated to my late friend, Davina, who was so excited to see representation of blind people onstage. Taking away our own sight for the performance evoked new skills. A different and rewarding experience. 'Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown' was my favourite piece of the week. I so enjoyed the visual performance process and felt that the piece on the night really brought together the whole experience. 'Helpful Advice and Comments for People with Chronic Pain' will always be dear to my heart. A 3 hour durational performance testing physical and mental fatigue on my body. Despite the unfortunate amount of technical issues, I still felt the process taking its effect on my already fatigued body and, when speaking to audience members, the performance definitely gave some takeaway messages. Takuya Yamashita Stack of DM-chan 3 2024 281×412×150mm Oil woodcut on Kent paper, bolt The character named "DM-chan" was original designed by manga artist Onta Niwako, and was inspired by the messenger god Hermes from Greek. "DM-chan" was the personification of the medium of information transmission itself. In the midst of the personal struggles that is my separation with ex-partner, I came across the theme of "melancholia" explored by many printmakers, including Albrecht Dürer. Contrary to popular belief, the melancholic sentiment expressed by these printmakers was not entirely negative, but reflected a thoughtful attitude that explored hope in the midst of anxiety. Inspired by this theme, I decided to use DM-chan as my alter ego to express my own experiences. The title of the new series is "Daily Melancholia" that twist initials of " DM-chan". The character's design evolved from the messenger god Hermes to a melancholic angel created by printmakers of the past. By printmaking "DM-chan" over and over , I aim to express ruminating thoughts and symbolize the hope that shines through the melancholy. VALLIE EXPORT im @coberlin bis 20.05.24 zu sehen. Die Künstlerin ordnete sich anfänglich noch dem Wiener Aktionismus zu. Ab Mitte der Sechziger Jahre veranstaltete sie jedoch losgelöst von der Gruppierung, Performance- und Videokunst, die sich mit den Themen Feminismus, Sprache, Schrift, Medien und übergeordnet der Kommunikation beschäftigen. Das Bild und die Rolle der Frau stehen dabei oft im Fokus ihrer Arbeiten. So wie in ihrer berühmten "cutting"-Performance, bei der sie ihren Hosenschritt ausschnitt und damit durch Kinosäle streifte. Diese Aktion wurde später nachgestellt und fotografisch festgehalten. Mit "Tapp und Tastkino" stellte sie sich 1968 mit einer Tastbox vor ihrer nackten Brust in die Wiener Innenstadt. Sie forderte Passant*innen auf, für eine bestimmte Zeit ihre Brust zu befühlen und ihr dabei ins Gesicht zu sehen. Sie holte damit das Kino und die dort gezeigten Szenen in die Realität und beobachtete die Reaktionen der Mitakteure, was die gewohnte Sicht umkehrte. Ein weiteres exemplarisches Beispiel ist die Videoaufnahme des Rachen eines sprechenden Mannes mit einem Laryngoskop. Sie verdeutlicht den Wohn- und Entstehungsort der Sprache und somit der Macht.
