My Dec. 25, 2023: This Christmas was unlike any Christmas I have ever celebrated. It started off with my husband @febidahosa and I wrapping gifts til 2am and back up before 9am to continue. (No, we didn’t hold any church service today, we had two yesterday.) When the boys woke up, they started the year’s first fire in the fireplace. I was so proud of them and grateful to my Dad for some FaceTime coaching. We prayed together as a family of 5 and shared gifts. The boys took their time to appreciate each and every gift, even if one of them consisted of cleaning supplies as a soft reminder to do their chores. 😁 We ordered out for breakfast while I began cooking Christmas Dinner. My mom came over for dinner and we all gathered together to eat, share some more gifts and make memories. After that, the boys, my husband and I took dinner to my Dad. We also brought a brand new pack of UNO cards to play with him. Needless to say, the adults didn’t win 😃😃… Dad was so happy to spend time with all of us that he had us all individually come to him so that he could lay hands on us and bless us. Now that the day is coming to a close, I am enjoying some solo time to reflect and be grateful to God for all that He has blessed us with and all that we expect in the days ahead. There’s a lot to learn from this great woman. I’ve been her daughter in love for 21 years and I’m just scratching the surface. Yesterday, we sat together recounting things we are grateful for. Her genuine gratitude to God was palpable. The Glory of the Lord filled the room. Her hands would raise and her eyes were filled with tears of gratitude as she kept saying, “God you are so good. God you are so faithful.” I believe that’s one of the keys to her inner and outer beauty and strength. She is a genuinely grateful woman. Her gratitude isn’t a show for the crowds of over 30,000 people who gather annually to worship with her; it isn’t for the camera or for the gram. Her gratitude is for the audience of one, Jesus Christ, the Living Savior. Gratitude is a learned behavior. How do you know if he loves you? 1. He is patient with you and doesn’t force his way or his timing. He is a good listener. He doesn’t interrupt you or talk over you. Can you think back to a time when someone saw things differently than you did and you eventually changed your perspective? I’d love to read your stories and examples in the comment section. For me, one particular instance comes to mind. I formerly believed that I could function effectively as the custodian of discipline in Benson Idahosa University, where I was working. My personality tends to see through peoples lies and I have a keen ability to perceive when something just isn’t right. The position I held as Director of Campus Life was one that naturally fit into that of a disciplinarian. Under my leadership, students would be investigated for breaches of the code of conduct and sent to disciplinary panels and eventually exonerated or given the punishment that fit their infraction. We had a student leader (Head Resident Advisor) whom courageously came to meet President @febidahosa and I to share his opinion about me being in that role. He felt that it was making me unapproachable. He shared that students were seeing me as being mean spirited and someone to be feared instead of seeing me as a compassionate, caring, loving and motherly figure. At first, I didn’t agree with his standpoint. I enjoyed the role I was in and believed that I was fair and that serving in that capacity was helpful, but, we decided to give it a try. Discipline was delegated to another department and I was able to play more of a counseling and caring role. Within a year of that decision, my reputation in the University shifted and students began to love me, trust me and share some of their deepest challenges with me. I was able to pray and counsel them and show them the compassionate side of me that they were missing.
