🧱We love to dive into the magical world of LEGO, where building bricks become tools for strength, coordination, and endless imagination! 💫 LEGO isn't just for building, it's a playground for developing fine motor skills and unleashing creativity in kids of all ages (yes, even the big kids at heart!). The simple act of holding bricks steady, to placing them securely and prying them apart again. From Lego cars to magical kingdoms or the coolest Opera House. We’ve frozen bricks in ice cubes and excavated with toy hammers, pushed them into play dough or used pieces in colour matching games - the possibilities are endless. The new Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST) really does live up to its nickname. Our little leapers could be heard shouting “best day ever!” as they explored this gross motor wonderland 🛝👟💫 Jump between numbered mounds, bump down the sensory delight of roller slide, meander down a soft fall ramp to the water spray area, trampolines and tunnel to the climbing frame. There are swings, monkey bar rings, a roundabout, a great running track and plenty of sports fields surrounding for keen eyes to be inspired. We can imagine so many fun ways to use the equipment here with our little leapers. These long summer days have us out and about enjoying the beautiful outdoors. With Christmas around the corner, take a moment, celebrate the rich opportunities natural environments have to offer our Little Leapers therapeutically through play ☀️🪵 There are so many ways we can explore with flowers to enjoy, a bush to wander through, even the suburban nature strip to get a little gross motor boost. Gross motor play can also help to regulate children’s bodies and emotions and can be a great way to wind down before dinner and the bedtime routine begins. Nature gives our children so many open-ended opportunities.🍃🌼 Have a try of these: - jump between concrete squares in the footpath - stomp on crunchy bark or dry leaves on the ground - walk heel-toe alongside a long stick, the edge of the grass or a line drawn in the dirt - hop over dandelions so they don’t get squished - collect gumnuts, colourful leaves, interesting rocks or a posy of flowers (great for repetitive squatting!) - load up a bucket with rocks and transport them to a new spot to play #littleleaps #littleleapstherapy #littleleapstherapyservices #kidsphysio #paediatricphysiotherapy #natureplay

With Autumn🍁well and truly here and the beginning of chilly Winter mornings starting to peek through the sunshine, we’re reaching for warm cups of tea and our slippers!☕️ But don't forget about our little ones who are just starting to stand and walk! While it's tempting to keep them bundled up from head-to-toe all day and night to keep sniffles away, barefoot play is a crucial way of exploding a baby’s skin to different textures and finely tune how their foot muscles react to help keep balance on different surfaces.🦶 While it might not be practical (or wise!) to let your child go wild and shoe-free on a cold and rainy day, we encourage you to give your little one moments of exposure to different textures: walking or standing on grass in the sunshine, standing in the sandpit, rustling through piles of autumn leaves and squelching through mud before a warm bath. Let’s talk Hypermobility - you may recall in your playground days the term “double jointed”, but that’s not exactly accurate. Hypermobility is a term used to describe greater than ‘average’ movement at joints. It can exist alongside other diagnoses, throughout all joints in the body or only a few. Often hypermobility has flow-on effects on muscles, connective tissues and overall movement patterns. This can be accompanied by limitations in daily activities or lifestyle changes because of pain, injury or fatigue. That’s where a paediatric Physiotherapist can help your child get stronger, learn to move their bodies in safe ways and enjoy being flexible.
