On Thursday we took a little adventure to the park and duck pond. This is something new that we have never done before and I wasn’t too sure how Logan would go. But just as he continues to do every day, he surprised me and really seemed to enjoy himself. He loved having so much space to explore and spent most of his time walking around just taking it all in. He spent some time on the swing and joined his cousins, aunty, sister and myself for a picnic. We went for a walk and he even participated in feeding the ducks! Finally another fun adventure we can do as a family!!! #autism #autismawareness #autismfamily #autismacceptance #autismmum #autismmumaustralia #autismsupport #autismparent #autismadvocate #autismjourney #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #autismaustralia #park #ducks #picnic #family

There are so many precious moment at the bakery. In the business of the day I feel lucky if I observe it let alone document it. Jason joined us two weeks ago and slowly is learning the way of the bakery. This week Chris took him under his wing for the entire day. They made cookies together, washed dishes, rolled cookies, swept and whatever else was needed. The moments I observed them working together just made my heart bigger. ❤️. ... As Autism Month comes to a close, this seems worth repeating, and sharing. From the archives of St. Thorlak's Virtual Café: * * * Can we pray together that the Church may be stirred to step out of the boat and greet Jesus on the water in which the neurodiverse are huddled and waiting to be brought to shore? Can we pray the Church will come to see us as we are, not as we have been cast by stereotypes and outdated narratives about autistic people? Let us pray that the Church will be inspired by the Holy Spirit step out onto the water and welcome neurodivergent people as we are, understanding that our “difficult” appearance reflects a desperate need to feel safe that our neurological wiring does not automatically provide. Let us pray our appearance is not taken as a personal affront, but an opportunity to meet Christ as He beckons us to trust Him even as He stands atop the choppy waves. Each step the Church takes on the water is another step toward believing that: • We look anxious because our bodies are braced against sensory pain, not because we worry too much or don’t trust God enough • When we say we can’t do something, we really, physically can’t • When we ask for support, it is in our own leap of faith out onto the open water, in hopes that those we ask will provide the Hands of Christ to take ours • We don’t feel safe or wanted when we are repeatedly interrogated or asked to prove that we have tried everything possible to be convenient to the community before we can get the support we need • We need support when we need it, not when everything else has been done first, or when it comes up on the calendar • We are worth the inefficiency of meeting individual needs, every time • It is worth the time and creativity to make us feel welcome, whether this is done once or seventy times seven times (… and even demonstrates to the entire parish that this is how we encounter Christ in one another) • Our hurt from neglect and indifference is real, and cumulative, and causes ongoing damage to our spiritual lives • Ministry to the majority is neither the bottom line nor the Mission of our Church #autism #autistic #autismawareness #autismacceptance

And this is my fourth and final case study for autism acceptance month! People don't seem to understand that just because certain characteristics of your autism or how your autism presents isn't visible to them, doesn't mean you are 'less autistic'. However, this expectation, this assumption..it's a lack of acceptance, really. And I certainly end up feeling ashamed of myself and hiding all my struggles. I 'work hard' and have to do a lot of 'behind the scenes' in order to get out the house and appear how I might appear to my work colleagues, classmates, and even friends. However, just because people didn't see that effort, doesn't mean it wasn't real. And that my differences aren't as real. I think this is both about self acceptance, and other people accepting and acknowledging. It's everyone's responsibility to I guess start to accept that autism IS a spectrum and that differences come in all shapes and forms. Everyone with autism has differences in a certain range of areas, but because it is a spectrum, the scale of those differences can be really different. Personally, sensory issues around food, material/touch, and sound are really big for me, and while I generally do understand things like sarcasm, and can communicate fairly well, I find social situations really tiring, and overall struggle a lot with executive function. I also have strong obsessions and very rigid thinking, and have certain routines that I find it incredibly hard to change or manage without. However, I'm quite good at showing emotion, and passion! What do you think about the spectrum and autism acceptance? #autism #autismacceptance #autismacceptancemonth #autismawareness #neurodiversity #actuallyautistic

I’ve enjoyed this Autism Acceptance month and sharing info about Autism with you. And now I want to say something that’s probably obvious, but I’ve never publicly said it... I am Autistic. Coming to this realization over the past few years has been really helpful for me. I wish I had known sooner. I appreciate those who openly shared their own autism journey as it helped me see mine more clearly. I finally understand why I am the way I am, why I’ve struggled so hard all my life with chronic anxiety and low level depression, and why I spent so many years of my life masking my differences and trying so hard to fit into a world that would not accept me for who I am. My journey is my own, and no two autistic people are the same so I don’t speak for anyone but myself, but I don’t believe that Autism is something to be cured, and it’s not something that happened to me. Just like I was born left handed, and have brown eyes and freckles, I was born with a brain that is wired a little differently. On the plus side, I have a very high IQ. On the negative side, I struggle with doing a damn thing with it. I’m realizing now where the majority of my life’s struggles originated from, and that realization is shifting my personal narrative to one that’s more self empowered. I’m autistic. It makes sense. Unmasking and letting myself be fully authentic has taken me a long time but here I am... society definitely didn’t want me to be my weird self, but I do... So I’m here to shout to the world... I’m proudly Autistic AF. #autismacceptance #autismawareness

Sometimes it is necessary to let people be wrong about us in order to maintain our peace. We do not have control over how other people view us. Fortunately, we have control over something much more important. Ourselves. If we commit to living in our authenticity, we have done everything we can to show people our true selves. If they still get the wrong idea about us, let them. Let them be wrong. You can be autistic and... ➰ make eye contact 〰️ have a job ➰ not have a social interest 〰️ enjoy loud music events ➰ be sociable 〰️ be able to communicate ➰ be empathetic 〰️ be independent ➰ use facial expressions and body language 〰️ be able to make phone calls You can achieve just as much as an atypical and more, you might need more time, a different route, use different skills, need reasonable adjustments but ultimately you just need to be understood to how you work! Being autistic doesn’t mean you’re not capable. Every Autistic is different. Some like concerts and festivals, for others it would too loud, busy and a no go. Autistic people can work but actually not all are able too and that’s okay. Some live independently whilst others simply cant. You can’t see autistic people as the same. We all have different needs, need different support and flourish in different areas 🌸 #autism #autismawareness #autistic #autismacceptance #differentnotless #autisticspectrum #disability #disabilityawareness #individual #spectrum #adhd #differentabilities #autismadvocate #actuallyautistic

#autism #autismus #schizophren #psychologisch #art #kunst #sketch #skizze #handmade #bleistiftzeichnung #autismacceptance #portrait

This Autism Acceptance Month, let's take a moment to celebrate and embrace the unique perspectives and talents that individuals on the autism spectrum bring to our world. Autism is not a disorder to be "fixed"; it's a different way of experiencing life. Autism acceptance means recognizing and valuing the unique gifts that come with neurodiversity. Let's work together to create a world where everyone is celebrated for who they are. On the days you only have 40% and you give 40% You gave 100% This is for anyone who needs it after a tough week. You gave your everything. And for us all to try and understand what our little people have to give everyday too. They gave their everything too. Remember, that our ‘everything’ looks different everyday. Often are children are running at 40%, but still expected to give 100%. Try this weekend to honour yourself and your child. Honour the effort it has taken this week. I have not had a panic attack since being with my husband and this one experience has changed everything. I have been battling with anxiety this morning as I am going to my sisters. It’s not going to my sister that causes me anxiety is the distance that I am away from home. Being far away from home when home is my safe place is a struggle. There is also a lot of anxiety around taking the children and everything that I need to pack and a million scenarios going through my head that I am trying to prepare for. I am sure it will all be fine and I will actually have a lovely time. Time to feel the fear and do it anyway! Aarush’s mom wants to share the incredible journey of her son with autism in BSSN. Aarush, an autistic student, turned 10 in September. His favourite things include building blocks and stringing beads, and he loves chocolates. His mom says: Aarush enjoys coming to BSSN. He enjoys playing indoor and outdoor games. Aarush was diagnosed with level 3 autism and shows some sensory processing disorders. Despite his challenges, he is displaying his hidden talents through non-verbal ways of communication. We are incredibly proud of him. Aarush’s laughter is contagious, and he is always on the go! He works diligently every day in individual therapy, speech therapy and remedial education. Aarush’s journey has been challenging due to his non-speaking and sensory-seeking needs. After coming to BSSN, through consistent efforts from our teachers, he has shown remarkable improvements in his self-help skills, sitting tolerance, and eating habits. He has started greeting others as a part of learning in BSSN. A mother who is in harmony with her child, who understands her place in her child’s life and her role in society, is never lonely. #autism #autismawareness #autismspeaks #autismacceptance #autismspectrumdisorder #autismsupport #LightItUpBlue #autismawarness #BSSN #specialeducation

Day 26 & 27 Dear parents of individuals living with autism spectrum disorder, 1. You did not do anything to cause your child to be on the spectrum. 2. Try not to compare your child to other children, whether neurotypical or neurodiverse. Understand that your child is unique and learns differently. 3. Please engage whoever is working with your child constantly. Ask them questions. It is your right as well as your responsibility. Be sure of their level of competence. They are various boards for this. Ask them where they belong. Ask them what strategies are being used. 4. Be intentionally involved. Yes, we know therapy in Nigeria is expensive, and you nèed to work to pay for it. However, one or two hours every day with your child to play your part in their intervention will make a huge difference. Consistency is key 5. Please join a support group. We may not see your tears, but we have seen enough struggles to know it is overwhelming. 6. Take care of yourself. You deserve it. Extend grace to yourself. #autismspectrumdisorder #autismawarenessmonth #autismhistorymonth #autismawarenessday #autismacceptance #autismsupport #autismservices #autism #asd

hout-out Saturday: In amongst the stress of trips to the hospital this week for one of my sons, it’s been punctuated with ‘Sparkly Moments’ seeing his siblings rally round him! Be sure to place your own ‘Sparkly Moments’ on record so they don’t go unnoticed! 🌟🌟🌟 Never underestimate the importance of giving a shout-out where credit is due, however big or small, and because it is good for the soul! Don’t forget this is also your opportunity to give yourself a well-deserved ‘shout-out’ for all those times you undoubtedly managed to rise above the presenting challenges and find workable solutions, too! 🙌 Of course, if you’re a parent who is struggling with it all and are looking for a fresh perspective, some new ideas or simply a little moral support, the good news is you don’t have to go it alone because we’re in this together and help is at hand! I’m Lyn and I support parents, particularly those whose children have a formal diagnosis of ADHD or Autism, to understand the power of language and harness it more effectively to achieve win-win outcomes that build stronger, more purposeful parent-child relationships Why not act today, get in touch and book a Power Hour with me? It will give you the opportunity to talk through your situations, create a plan of action and ensure you come away from the hour with a raft of practical tips that are easy to implement! I goofed up my paragraph because I meant to mention my friend @icanscreations explains how immigration info has a lot of misinformation! I also forgot to mention how not only money as being a main reason for self diagnosis but also safety especially when it comes to bipoc. #autisticwomen #autisticmemesforautisticteens #actuallyautistic #autisticlife #autisticburnout #imwhatautismlookslike #autismacceptance #autismmemes #autismspectrum #autismrocks #autismlife #autismspectrumdisorder #autismadvocate #autismjourney #autisticandproud #autisticaf #autisticbarbie #latediagnosedautistic #oversharing #infodump #specialinterest #traumadumping #autisticjoy #weirdbarbie #audhd #alexithymia #autisticmeltdown #stimming #autismsupportneeds

Friday Fun # 219! National Autism Acceptance Month/ Autism Awareness Month Did you know? “Autism Awareness Month was founded in April 1970 by Bernard Rimland, Ph.D., a psychologist and autism researcher. He chose the month of April to coincide with his son’s birthday and the start of spring!” - exploreandmore.org The Rainbow Infinity symbol (first used on Autistic Pride Day on June 18th, 2005) was painted using acrylics on my daughter’s hands. April 2024. Longmont, CO. “The infinity symbol represents the idea that neurodiversity is a valuable and essential part of the human experience.” and is “a popular symbol among autistic people and autism rights advocates, symbolizing a broad and varied spectrum of experiences.” - brainwave.watch Thanks for helping, Mad. ❤️ Happy Friday! Go create something fun! #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismacceptancemonth #myart #artshare #colorful #colorfulart #travisrueckert

Happy Autism Acceptance Month!! 🩷🧡💛💚🩵💜 ∘ There is a major lack of discussion when it comes to the conversation of Autism all year round. It's refreshing to see that it's been so widely discussed this month! This is how we should be talking about Autism every month, every week, and every day. Educating others about Autism shouldn't be confined to just one month alone! I hope to see more creators talking about Autism as loudly and proudly as they've done this month, and continue talking about it even as this month ends. I hope all of my fellow Autistic folks have had a lovely Autism Acceptance Month! #autism #autismacceptance #autismacceptancemonth #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #educational #education
