We have moved to Australia. For real this time - it ACTUALLY HAPPENED! I am feeling all sorts of things, and all sorts of nothing all at the same time. We’ve been talking and preparing for this moment for around two years, so the fact that it’s *actually* happened now seems a bit surreal. My brain has no real idea what to think about anymore so we’re just taking it slow and flying by the seat of our pants. We’ve stayed with Lucys parents for a few days now, and today we check into our first @airbnb in Melbourne and honestly it all feels a bit ‘to good to be true’. The best part though? It IS true. I think I was made for the beach. One of my favourite things is the sunshine - the heat. So, if I can live a life full of the ocean, and the sunshine, I will be a happy girl. The first thing I do when I arrive is this - I set up shop. I make sure the blankets are where I want them, the cooler has some shade, my book and water are near by, and everything else is in its place. I can’t just arrive at the beach and wing it - it has to be set up. Lucy @dunnebells_ , doesn’t get it but once it’s all set up she does say “thank you for making it perfect” even though she makes fun of me for being so particular. What I’ve learned in my years of ‘beach going’ is that towels just don’t simply cut it. A proper beach blanket is where it’s at. Lucky for us, our friend Erin over at @modest.maverick makes these incredible blankets and now when I’m at the beach I feel like a beautiful, badass couple, with badass things. Isn’t it funny how age makes you realize things? Quantity over quality. We don’t want all the things - we just want the best of the things that we have. Have you ever gone somewhere and instantly felt like you could stay forever? For whatever reason it may be, the weather, the location, the houses, the food, you name it. Have you? And if you have, where was it and what made you feel that way? For example, Allie (@allieandsam) I know would love to live in California and she has made it very clear to all of us. But you? Where would you go? Where would you stay? Tofino and Ucluelet have our hearts. Vancouver Island in general is a place that brings us immense joy, but being here in Tofino is literally one of the only times we’ve said “we could live here forever”. It’s the first time in the last 7 months that we’ve dreaded the first of the month and our fast approaching move. There used to be a time where I didn’t really have much savings and the idea of living and paying for things MONTHS in advance, seemed like a huge deal. It is a huge deal !!! Not only are we completely debt free (yahoooooo hard work and years of making up for careless decisions, more on one of our parts than the other🤫) and have savings in the bank, but we’re I guess at that stage where we can pay our rent months in advance! How cool?? That’s one thing about living in Airbnb’s on a monthly basis...It’s kind of hard to budget 🤷🏼♀️ Once we moved to a different province, and an island, things got drastically more expensive in terms of rent. Mind you, we now rent BEAUTIFUL furnished apartments in places we could have only ever dreamed of living. We’re aware it’s going to cost more, so we upped our rent budget and now we have more options. With Airbnb though you kinda have to “take things as they come” because you’re never guaranteed that someone won’t book even one night of a place that you’ve got your eye on. So? When you see an apartment you like, that’s in your price point and ticks all your boxes, you go for it. Even if it means moving to an even tinier island to live in the forest with ocean views. You pay for those experiences months in advance cause you don’t ever know when you’ll get the chance again. The point of the story is, we have a killer 3 months lined up in terms of living arrangements and CAN NOT wait to take you on that journey.
