Confession: I’ve been in the breed for more than 35 years and Kansas is my first Versatility Dog. Day 2 of National Specialty Joy. Dilly in Novice Obedience was the most joy I have EVER felt in a (non-Team) obedience ring. She has been completely home-schooled, never worked in any structured way. All we’d trained was just a few minutes a day for a few weeks prior to the National but her sheer glee in doing anything obedience made each of those sessions a joy. I had no idea how she’d do in competition but she seemed as joyful as I to be there. Stayed with me, tail wagging, attention to die for…so much more than what I deserved for the training I’d done! If it wasn’t for a few errant off-lead steps we would have placed in a huge class (we were 1/2 point off from 4th place). My all time favorite images I was lucky enough to photograph is this bobcat my daughter @sophiac_photography and I shot together. We spent almost four months trying to capture images of this cat and a successful predation. A bird feeder at one of our local wildlife parks here in Texas was visited regularly by a bobcat. She would sit in the tall grass by the water feature and wait for a bird to drop down for a drink. It didn’t happen everyday and the few days she visited, she was unsuccessful. But we were there every morning, rain or shine, before sun up. Cold days, rainy days, buggy days (the mosquitoes were brutal), we kept going back. It finally happened one beautiful morning in March 2018. On World Veterinary Day, I want to do a shout out to Dr Derek McNair from the Parade Norwood Veterinary clinic. When you find a good vet, keep them. They often hold your companions lives in their hands. And vets, listen to your patients humans. They know their animals. My favourite child, Emilie, had a suspected minor stroke on Monday night. She fell, lost movement and has been confused and scared. With days of rest & sleepless nights she's improved a lot. She might be slower & wobblier, but she's here... The head tilt may be permanent, but it's super cute. I adore her.
