How big should our wedding cake be? First thing to consider is when your cake will be served. If you are planning to serve your wedding cake as dessert then you will need to cater to 100% of your guests. These portion sizes would also be the larger “dessert” sized portions. If you are incorporating your wedding cake into the evening buffet then I would usually advise catering to around 70-80% of your total guest numbers. These would be smaller “finger” sized portions. For around 100 guests I would recommend a 3 tier cake and for 160 guests I would recommend a 4 tier cake. Another option to consider is having a smaller cake plus dessert table. These are a great option to treat your guests during your evening wedding reception plus they can be tailored to your colour scheme or theme. Your cake maker will be able to advise the most appropriate size for your wedding based on your requirements and guest numbers. At the end of the day it's your decision and budget so you can easily cater to more or less. On Thursday I conducted a lovely personalised ceremony for a wonderful couple, the new Mr & Mrs Jones! @sarahjanekelly78 looked stunning as she was walked down the aisle by her very proud mum, Pat, following her beautiful bridal party, her bridesmaid Kelly and maid of honour, Christine to her awaiting dapper groom, Steve, who was ably supported by his best man, Stephen. The ceremony started with me telling their love story up to now, from their first meeting in ward 206, to a wee "taxi rank winch" which commenced their relationship, to the romantic proposal at @fonabcastle . Craig, Sarah Jane's brother in law then read a lovely reading about being each other's lock & keys! They then had a traditional quaich ceremony with each being welcomed into their partner's family by Sarah Jane's brother Michael and Steve's dad, Pete. After their vows, they completed the ceremony by tying the knot with a traditional Scottish Handfasting. Just a perfect day for this perfect couple. What a cracking wedding yesterday was, I conducted the ceremony of the wonderful, new Mr & Mrs Harley at the dtunning @melville_castle , Beth was walked down the aisle by her very proud dad Tony, behind her beautiful bridal party all in green, Sophie, Camilla, Teah, Lorna, Jessica, Rhiannon, and Alice, all led by Beth's maid of honour, her little sister Katie, to her awaiting dapper groom in full military dress uniform, supported by his best man Cammy and groomsman Jimmy. It was a cracking personalised ceremony that told their love story across various postings across the globe, they had a traditional quaich ceremony where both were welcomed into each other's family by their dad's Tony & Derek. They completed the ceremony with a traditional Scottish handfast ceremony with handfasts in Frazer's regimental tartan. The final part being a surprise reading from Beth to Frazer where she insisted she was never going to give him up or indeed never going to let him down!! They were then piped out by @callumscottishpiper . Overall just a perfect day for this perfect couple. This was my first visit to @melvillecastlehotel_ , the wedding was led with the military precision expected by our couple, by Erin, the wedding and events manager, and I am very much looking forward to seeing the wonderful photos of the occasion by @paulandrewsweddings . How was everyone’s Easter weekend? 🐣 We spent it doing our annual Easter egg hunt in the garden. Some years it’s been in the house due to weather which means the house gets torn apart on the hunt for eggs. I love our egg hunt tradition, my grandparents would host it in their huge back garden with all the grandkids. That garden will still have crème eggs buried in it that were never found. Even before the kids came along we would have a roast lunch then all the adults would hunt for eggs, including my elderly grandfather who seemed to enjoy it as much as my kids do now. Best place for hiding the men’s eggs is usually in the washing machine or tumble dryer as they never go there. Hiding adults eggs has become something of a sport in our family to find the hardest and most disgusting place you can. I used to put my mums in the compost heap. It was scheduled to snow yesterday which would have meant all L & Gs guests would have been stuck inside. But instead we had a beautiful sunny day at stunning @melvillecastlehotel_ which meant the kids could run energy off in the huge grounds,and we could also get outside for sparklers.
