Milky 🍼 🤱🏼 Its #nationalbreastfeedingweek so what better time to read this book with Charlie and Robin. I bought this book for Charlie to explain breastfeeding to him. Charlie is naturally curious about what Robin spends a lot of her day doing and we aren't sure if he can remember being breastfed himself for 16 months (approximately). Milky, written by Maria Betsworh and illustrated by @agnessaccani was purchased from @milkitmama.ie who we can highly recommend to those searching for unique, breastfeeding inspired gifts (great variety and personal, friendly customer service too ❤️). Milky is essentially a children's book about breastfeeding in all of its forms, which covers many bases along the way, in relation to the types of questions which children may have about it, as well as societal responses too. (I purposely don't like to give too much away about any book). Charlie (2 years), enjoyed Milky but I would say that it may be more suitable for older children generally. Charlie did learn a lot and loved interacting with the colourful and detailed illustrations, but the story was a bit too long for him personally. Charlie calls this book the "people book", which is one stand out thing about the book, is that it visually has characters from all walks of life. Robin enjoyed the reading time snuggles as always and watching her brother getting animated about the book too. Its definitely a read we will be coming back to and one that will grow with them. There aren't many books like this on the market as I did a search before finding this, but I think that it would meet many family's requirements for breastfeeding education in a fun, child friendly manner. I shared this image months ago but I came across it again today and it really resonated with me! I'm pretty sure every single breastfeeding mama can relate to this whether you're still in the throes of boobing or you're finished with it! I always say that the good days are amazing but bloody hell, the hard days are just soo challenging! You don't know if you're coming or going, you're so tired that you can't bring yourself to get dressed or shower! You feel touched out, lonely and just so unlike your former self! If you're home alone, the days can seem so long and even though you know getting out would really help, it can be tough to push yourself! BUT somehow, from somewhere you draw strength, you find the motivation to keep going and miraculously you find some hope that tomorrow will be better! And it usually is! 🥰 Take the bad days with the good days and remind yourself that bad days are completely normal! You and your baby are learning from eachother every day and that's pretty special! Don't forget to reach out to your friends, your support network! It can be hard to remember to respond to those well meaning texts but you're always glad you did! You'll always find someone who is feeling the same way or who has felt that way in the past! Support is key! Surround yourself with good people and never be afraid to say 'This is hard, I'm tired and I need some help!' What can I say?! It's been a rollercoaster ride so far! We hit our two weeks breastfeeding milestone which felt huge to be honest! I won't lie, there were moments where I thought we wouldn't make it! And we are still not out of the woods yet. We've had crying and fussiness, slow weight gain and alot of pain(from both of us! 🙈) There's been visits and appointments and alot of overwhelm but we're getting there one feed at a time and one day at a time! Week 2 saw the return of the pump and the steriliser, something we didn't think we would use so early on but needs must! I got a prescription for APNO cream which has really been a huge help in the healing process - if you know you know! 😬🔥 Thanks so much for all he gorgeous messages of support- it has really helped! I've spoken to lots of you in the same boat and many who have been there and have great advice to give! Never underestimate how your kind words can help a mama on a tough day. What do you love about breastfeeding?! There's so many lovely moments, especially once you're established and feeling positive about your journey! Asides from the sheer feeling of calm and peace for those few minutes where its you and baba (night time moments for those with young children to contend with during the day!!l) My favourite has to be when your baby looks up at you while you're feeding. What would your gold medal skill be?! I think mine would be the ability to multi task (I mean isn't that every mothers Olympic skill?!) I can go into these crazy power hour modes whereby I could have the slow cooker going, a meal on the hob and one in the oven whilst simultaneously getting lunchboxes ready! Granted, it looks like a bomb has gone off but it's so satisfying! 🤣 I also have a memory of potty training Sadie while Evie was 6 weeks old if even (I know, what was your thinking!) I remember chasing her around with the with Evie hanging out of a boob! My friend who had come over to assist and support said she had seen it all! Breastfeeding whilst wiping a bum! What would you win your gold medal for?! Side note - I went with a boastful skill! Believe me, there are many self deprecating ones too! 🤣 The ability to moan and be narky, procrastination, inability to make decisions....I could go on! How true is this?! No matter what the situation! Having the support of your fellow female friends and mothers on your breastfeeding journey is crucial! We all need someone to hold us up, encourage us, motivate us when we feel like giving up, tell us that things get easier or that things will be hard for a while but it's totally normal! We need to hear the words 'Me too' and 'I remember those days!' What would we do without these amazing women in our life?! I feel lucky to have lots of lovely ladies who show me support during this journey we call motherhood and have connected with so many wondrful females here on social media too! Do you remember the first time you breastfed in public?! This was a huge milestone for me I have to admit, especially as a first time Mama! I used to plan meticulously in order to avoid having to feed in public. I even remember Sadie starting to cry when I was out with two new friends for a coffee and I literally just stood up and said 'I have to go!' and ran home with the pram! I'm not sure why I felt so self conscious. It wasn't as if I had ever had a negative experience or had anyone say something to me. I think looking back it was simply that it wasn't something I tended to see people doing publicly. I didn't have any friends who were breastfeeding at the time and it just didn't feel comfortable for me. But I DO remember being encouraged by my husband, it was a situation where I simply had no choice! She was hungry, we were out, my car was nowhere near and I drew the line at the bathroom! I did it, I felt clumsy and awkward and I'm sure I was the colour of a tomato and felt like all eyes were on me! Of course they weren't, no-one batted an eyelid because there was nothing to see and I was doing something completely natural and normal! My heart was racing the whole time but wow was I proud of myself for doing it! That was a huge milestone for me and one that I think should be celebrated which is why this particular card is one of my favourites from our pack of journey cards! Wow - what an image! I'm pretty sure every single breastfeeding mama can relate to this whether you're still in the throes of boobing or you're finished with it! I always say that the good days are amazing but bloody hell, the hard days are just soo challenging! You don't know if you're coming or going, you're so tired that you can't bring yourself to get dressed or shower! You feel touched out, lonely and just so unlike your former self! If you're home alone, the days can seem so long and even though you know getting out would really help, it can be tough to push yourself! BUT somehow, from somewhere you draw strength, you find the motivation to keep going and miraculously you find some hope that tomorrow will be better! And it usually is! 🥰 Take the bad days with the good days and remind yourself that bad days are completely normal! You and your baby are learning from eachother every day and that's pretty special! Don't forget to reach out to your friends, your support network! It can be hard to remember to respond to those well meaning texts but you're always glad you did! You'll always find someone who is feeling the same way or who has felt that way in the past! Support is key! Surround yourself with good people and never be afraid to say 'This is hard, I'm tired and I need some help!' At this point it's all about survival and doing what you need to get through the other side! They don't call it a fog for nothing! Have your snacks ready, the remote to hand and remember support is key! Talk to someone, know that you're not alone and this is all perfectly normal. How do you normalise breastfeeding in your household? I found I wanted to keep on talking about breastfeeding after I finished with Evie. Sadie was very young when Evie arrived and only has vague memories of her little sister nursing! I love how we can pick up our copy of Milky and get the conversation going again! I love when we go to the farm and the girls shout 'Look at the piglets having their mama milk!' Strangely enough, the other day Evie asked for milk when she saw me getting dressed and her jaw dropped when I told her there was none left! 🤣 She finished feeding well over a year ago and and it still crosses her mind every now and again! I feel it's so important to keep the discussion going so that it is a completely normal act to them! They are always so interested when friends are feeding their babies and I encourage that curiosity! Evie loves her baby dolls and I often see her pull up her top and it just makes me smile so much 🥰

Absolutely agree! At the end of the day you have to do what you think is best for both baby and for you as a Mama! Happy Mama, happy baba! It's all about making an informed decision, one that works for you and not influenced by others around you! I remember not having even thought about how I was going to feed my baby to be honest until one day someone asked the question "Will you feed the baby yourself?! " which by the way always gets me as who else is gonna feed my baby?! 😂 In that instant I said yes and then thought to myself why not give it a go?! I put no pressure on myself at all and knew absolutely NOTHING about breastfeeding! I tried it and yes in the beginning it was shit hard! BUT I persevered and ultimately I did enjoy it and it worked for us both and so I continued! And she fed until I fell pregnant with Evie. Be your own judge, be informed, educate yourself and make your own decisions! You do you, whatever that might be! Double tap if you agree!

Why oh why is it so hard to figure out what to do with that precious time?! More often than not I choose to clean because the control freak in me finds it hard to relax in a messy house! 🙈 I remember when I had my first baby, I always chose to do the cleaning before the cup of tea and I'd make the tea once it was done but sure as soon as the spoon hit the cup she was awake! On my second I really tried to have the cuppa first! And it's something something always say to my friends when they're expecting! We are sometimes our own worst enemies aren't we?! What do you do with that rare alone time?

They hold on to their babies, cuddle them, feed on demand and sleep with them! This is exactly what Evie, my second born did and it was unbelievable! I didn't believe my midwife when she said it and then low and behold up she went! Does anyone else ever feel like a juggler?! So many balls in the air and just waiting for them to fall down! The weight of motherhood can be overwhelming sometimes - we need to talk about it more! I just came back from a walk with my best bud and we both vented and it was nice to feel like you're not the only one! Thank crunchie it's Friday! I'm not going to lie - that week kicked my ass and swallowed me whole - on all levels! One of those weeks where you feel like you're not able to give what you want to give to any part of your life! Balancing work and being a Mama is so challenging and sometimes it's hard to admit that to yourself never mind anyone else! I could have just parked myself on the couch when I got home and believe me that's all I felt like doing! Instead we went to the seafront and it was exactly what I needed! I took a deep breath, I ran with my girls and for the first time all week, my mind felt clear! Feeling so lucky to have such a beautiful place on my doorstep and even luckier to have a husband by my side who knows exactly what I need when I don't even know it myself! If you've had a tough week too - remember that you aren't alone! Even though sometimes it feels like everyone has their shit together - they probably don't! Hands up if you're always saying 'You've got this Mama' but never to yourself?! I'm saying it to myself tonight 'I've got this!' (along with a large pour of vino!) We've all got this and when we don't - always remember we've always got eachother!
My girls still love their Milky book! Yesterday I was blown away by my youngest Evie who just turned 3 on Tuesday! She saw an empty buggy and asked where the baby was and had the mama forgotten the buggy. I said they would come back for it and not to worry. Her response: 'Maybe the mama had to breastfeed her baby somewhere' 🥰🥰 Cue her own mama beaming with pride! Such a beautiful book pitched so nicely to children and a great way to keep the topic normalised long after they have stopped their own journey! Available to B U Y on our website!
