⚓️🐚 Release Day Review 🐚⚓️ Rating: 4.5/5 Penguins (rounded down) Quick Reasons: snarky, sassy, witty Aladdin retelling; entertaining, headstrong characters; enemies to lovers deliciousness; unexpected twist ending; enjoyable read HUGE thanks to Sadie Hewitt for the title! My review is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by this gesture. I am duty and honor bound to tell y'all that this was one of my most anticipated releases for 2024, and I am SO glad to have been given the chance to read this one! It's a tale filled with adventure, misfortune, drama and intrigue. I am a sucker for pirate tales, and the fact that this one is ALSO a retelling of Aladdin only sweetened the pot for this Penguin reader. The characters are believable and entertaining. As with the first book, Sadie Hewitt laced her prose with vivid descriptions and snarky retorts. The enemies to lovers trope was well used, filling the story with tension. I had a slightly harder time connecting with these characters than I did with Devlin and Fenna.... but still found myself wanting to knock some sense into Rahmi multiple times during this read. I definitely recommend this to lovers of cursed pirate ships, the Aladdin tales, and fiery characters just as likely to kiss you as they are stab you. The waves of change are set in motion, Penguins, and I cannot wait to see where the next installment in this series will lead us. One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid 🎧 ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Pretty the movie Castaway, but told from the side of the wife at home. When high school sweethearts marry, he takes a trip and disappears over the Pacific, she decides after some time that it's OK for her heart to move on. When just then, seemingly days after deciding to find happiness again in a man who checks all the boxes, the first husband comes back. After this, it seemed like a territorial one-sided battle of the first husband feeling like his wife should have probably held out another year or so. I did enjoy listening to this book. It was emotional. In fact. It pulled my heartstrings. But overall the way I felt about this entire book was pretty "meh" Basically if you've seen Castaway- you'll know exactly how this goes. #qotd What's your favorite movie from before Y2k? 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 | The Adult 📓 Natalie is a first year university student at Toronto University. It’s her first time away from her family and the warmth of her comfort zone. She’s homesick and the experiences she’s about to go through will be all new to her. Therefore, she’ll feel them intensely. The story follows Natalie and her tumultuous relationship with Nora, a mystery older woman whom she meets almost par hasard. And although Natalie knows little about love and Nora, she is certain she’s in love with her and that’s all that matters until it doesn’t. Bronwyn Fischer does an amazing job at portraying first loves, first heartbreaks, and first everythings. There’s this lingering feeling of tenderness and bittersweetness as Natalie gets to experience the reality of adulthood. She’s seeing the world through a new perspective, she’s experiencing all of these new things by herself and sometimes, not all of them are great and beautiful things. At only 18, she learns about solitude and longing. The city and her consuming relationship with Nora change her and we, as readers, get to see in a way how she grows a little into her new “adult” persona. Natalie's feelings are so strong and relatable because the majority of us have been in her place. We know about confusion, about love, about passion, about idealized lovers and about the bubble bursting moments when we realize not everything will be as easy and simple as we wish it would be. The Adult is such a vivid and realistic book, if you enjoyed books like The Idiot by Elif Batuman or Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney, this will be up your alley.

Book Review - My Dark Vanessa Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The author tackles a sensitive subject where a 15 yr old student begins a relationship with her 42yr old teacher. The author handled this sensitive subject brilliantly and I was gripped to the story wanting to know how Vanessa turned her life around, or indeed if she did. There are two timelines, when it happened and later when she was 32 years old and the ‘Me Too’ movement started into 2017. The reason I knocked off 1 ⭐️ was purely because of the layout, font and font size. It made it quite hard on the eye at times, as well as it sometimes feeling receptive. Have you read this book? ✨ 𝚁𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠 ✨ 𝕋𝕚𝕥𝕝𝕖: Saving Noah 𝔸𝕦𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕣: Lucinda Berry ℙ𝕒𝕘𝕖𝕤: 259 ℝ𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘: ★★★★ Swipe for synopsis ➡️ ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕚𝕗 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕚𝕜𝕖: * Dark psychological thriller * Dual POV * Short story Let’s just say, it’s sad, but also written in a morbid way. Definitely check the trigger warnings with this as it’s a dark read. I’m not a mother myself, however it’s written in a way where you think ‘how far would I go for my child?’. This may be controversial for some, but the parts where suic**e was heavily spoken about, I do believe we should have a right to end our own life when we feel like we want to. This whole ‘my body my choice’ doesn’t seem to apply to someone who hasn’t got a terminal illness. This story really makes you think about that. In all honesty, Noah got everything he deserved (sorry not sorry). The mum was so naive and didn’t seem to come to terms with that her son did, which infuriated me at times 😅. I did have my thoughts when the twist was revealed purely on the basis of lacking trust in the character, their avoidance and certain phrases that were mentioned, but it made me feel so sorry for the mum and sister and their future. 💭 Have you read this book? 📚Powerless by Lauren Roberts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ”Remind me to make you smile like that again, when you aren’t dying, and I have all the time in the world to memorize it.” This is the first time I’m this excited for a series in a long LONG time!!! I started to follow Lauren when she started to write powerless around 2020 and to finally read it, ITS SOMETHING ELSE!!!! (even if a year later but my reading slump didn’t let me read it sooner🤡) Usually i hate a slow burn because I’m too impatient to wait for the first kiss and all of that stuff, but this book has made me a fan of slow burn. THE BANTER, THE CHEMISTRY AND NOT EVEN ONE KISS?!?!?! it made me even more excited for the other books :) And part of me can believe this is a debut!!!! Pae is literally everything I want in a main character. She’s everything younger me wanted to be. Her determination, how outspoken she was and how she expressed herself. (also the way her dresses were always styled to showcase her dagger on her thigh>>>>>>>) Kai is the book boyfriend that we want and deserve. Once he started to get rid of his walls around Pae, we got to see how much of a softy he is :) AND HE ONLY HAS EYES FOR HER AND MAKES IT KNOWN!!!!!! I tried to also love Kitt but Kai stole the show. I’m not that strong, sorry. I don’t know how im going to survive until July so I can have the second book in my hands. I’m so excited for it, it feels nice to be this happy because of a book series 🤍 “I dont give a damn if you forget who I am in title, so long as you remember who I am to you.” . . . . #bookstagram #bookaddict #booksbooksbooks #bookreview #bookreviewers #bookreviewersofinstagram #powerlesslaurenroberts #bookishcommunity

Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey ⭐️⭐️.5/5 with 🌶️🌶️.5 for spice I’m so upset I that didn’t love this book. I was actually really excited to get into this because Tessa is usually the queen of “I hate everyone but you” but it really fell flat and I found myself cringing a lot more than normal. I thought the beginning 15-20% was actually not bad, but took a nose dive for the rest of the book. Hoping the next one in the series might be better but who knows!

Book Review - Innocence by Lee Savino and Stasia Black 3.5⭐️ This was almost a 4⭐️ read but some of this was just a bit weird for me😅. A mafia boss courts a woman from an enemy family and traps her into a humiliating marriage as revenge, but starts to fall for her. Now don’t get me wrong, the spicy scenes were spicing, however some of the things Marcus got Cora to do did make me cringe a little and I just thought it was a bit over the top you know? Overall I did enjoy this and definitely plan to read the next two books after this ended on one hell of a cliffhanger!! ❓Do you like a book with a cliffhanger, or a book that nearly ties up all the loose ends? #innocence #leesavino #mafiaromance #mafiaromancebooks #darkmafiaromance #spicybooks #spicybookstagram #spicybookrecs #romancebooks #romancereader #goodreadschallenge2024 #goodreads #storygraph #kindle #kindlebooks #kindlereader #kindlegirlie #ebook #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviewsofinstagram #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #ilovereadingbooks #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #booklover #bookaddict #bookstagramcommunity

. #book  #books  #bookstagram  #bookrecommendations  #bookreview  #bookreviewersofinstagram  #bookreader  #bookreviewer  #bookinstagram  #bookish  #read  #reading  #readingtime  #readreadread  #readersofinstagram  #romance  #romancebook  #booklover  #booknerd  #booklove

Ad PR Product Thanks to @quercusbooks for sending me a finished copy of Lyla Sage's Swift and Saddled. This is the second instalment of Sage's Rebel Blue Ranch series and the first book I have read by Sage. My thoughts: This novel had me hooked from the very first chapter, and I finished it in two days. It was filled with amazing chemistry and superbly spicy scenes. It alternates between Ada and Wes’s point of view, which I think always makes for a great romance. Wes is a perfect book boyfriend with so many sweet lines that I defy any reader who doesn’t fall in love with him. This book also touches upon mental health issues and coercive control in relationships, which allows the main characters to see even more realistic. The setting of the ranch is perfect and dream-like, a place that I would love to visit if only it was real. The Ryder family are full of warmth and charisma, so I can understand why Ada feels right at home with them. It also means I’m eager to read the first book in the series that focuses on Wes’s sister, Emmy. This book is the first cowboy romance I have read, but I know for a fact it won’t be my last.  Are you in your cowboy romance era yet? #lylasage #idratherbereading #swiftandsaddled #cowboyromance #cowboyromanceera #bookreviewersofinstagram #romancerecs

Promises and Pomegranates by @srmauthor ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 This book has been on my TBR for soooo long!! I can’t believe it took me this long to read this book! I highly enjoyed it after reading the prequel Sweet Sin. It was a nice, quick read and kept me entertained throughout. However the plot lacked a little bit and there was so much repetition throughout the book. I felt like there was just something missing when it came to the plot and explanation of important points. However I absolutely loved Kal and Elena! I will definitely be continuing the series in the future! ✨✨REVIEW — Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass book 3) by @sarahjmaas ✨✨ ✨ ✨ “Once upon a time,” she said to him, to the world, to herself, “in a land long since burned to ash, there lived a young princess who loved her kingdom…very much.” ✨ ✨ Heir of Fire is an official turning point in the Throne of Glass series from a basic fantasy read to an epic fantasy. There are new characters and locations introduced characterized by the thorough world building we’ve come to know by Maas. With the transition to an epic fantasy, it can be a struggle to see where and how each piece fits in the overall story. However, as a reread, I’m able to appreciate how much thought Maas truly put into this series. This is a chessboard positioning pieces in the unfinished game, and it’s truly remarkable how throwaway lines in this book have a large impact later on. It’s also a testament to Maas’s writing that I can still find Easter eggs scattered throughout despite reading this series and the Maasverse as a whole numerous times. The thing I love most about Heir of Fire is getting to learn more about the Fae, Rowan, and his cadre. Celeana’s transformation is also remarkable as she comes to terms with her grief and self worth. I’m also continuing to do my reread via audiobook and per usual Elizabeth Evans nails the narration. She does an incredible job bringing this story and the characters to life. If you haven’t, I highly recommend checking out the audiobook for this series. ✨ ✨ Edition shown: standard OOP hardcover Overall Rating: 5⭐️ QOTD: Do you have any favorite narrators? ✨ ✨ 🏷️: #reading #Reader #ReadersOfInstagram #Readers #ReadersOfIG #ReadersOfInsta #Books #BooksBooksBooks #Bookstagram #Bookstagrammer #BookRecommendations #BookRecommendation #booknerd #BooksOfInstagram #BookReviewer #BookReviewers #BookReviewersOfInstagram #BookReviewersOfIG #BookRecommendationsOfInstagram #TalkWordyToMeTeam #SarahJMaas #MaasMonday #HeirOfFire #FantasyBooks #FantasyRomance #BookDragon #BookLover #BookLovers #AudioBook #AudioBookstagram

QOTD: How was your weekend? . . My weekend was nice. We went to my son's soccer game, I got some things done around the house, we had some family over for a visit, and I managed to squeeze in some reading 😊 . I recently finished Sisters of Fortune and it was great! I've read several Titanic books, so I did find myself skimming some of the descriptions, but I actually still learned a few things, and enjoyed the story! I loved that it followed some real people, and that the story went a bit past the rescue of the survivors, to what happened afterward. I got this stunning edition from @onceuponabookclubbox and the gifts were a lot of fun to open along the way (swipe for spoilers). book review Ordinary Human Failings by Megan Nolan "Something would make itself known, he assumed, and he would make the most of the leisure now, seeing his friends as much as he liked, long hilarious nights around kitchen tables, the burst of euphoria that came with true, painful laughter was so extreme and powerful that it felt obviously to be the real point of life." I'm embarrassed to say I still have Nolan's last book sitting unread on my shelves. I kept meaning to pick it up, but got distracted by the newer releases. Needless to say I want to get to that one quite soon now! This book kicks off in London in the early 90's when a child goes missing from an estate. Suspicion lands immediately on the Irish family that lives there and a reporter just so happens to be in the area as people realise the child is missing. He sets about moving this family somewhere 'safe' so that he can get to the bottom of the story. What follows is a story filled with lost love, trauma and regret. It is nuanced in its approach to this tough subject, being careful to build enough empathy for the characters in spite of what they're accused of. It's a short tale, and easy to follow thanks to its small cast and claustrophobic atmosphere. It is haunting and heart-wrenching in equal measure and not an easy read, despite its short length. It absolutely deserved it's place in the @womensprize longlist. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Published in 1953, Fahrenheit 451 is generally considered to be a modern classic. In short, it’s a dystopian novel that explores an American society where books have been banned. The main character, Guy, is a fireman who is tasked with burning any of those that are still discovered. The novel covers his gradual disillusionment with this life, and his struggle to know what to do next. I picked this up as an audiobook and went in pretty blind. Although I’m not much of a sci-fi or fantasy reader, I don’t mind a moderate dystopian novel. For example, I’m a particular fan of novels like The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and I feel that this one fits neatly alongside those. Naturally, the idea of a world without books – and book censorship – is a pretty appalling one to us all in this corner of the internet. And even nowadays, it’s a topic we are still having to deal with as a society. For that reason, I really liked the themes that Fahrenheit 451 explores. We’re shown a world where the state is numbing its populace with endless nonsense programming that conveys nothing and means nothing. Books, on the other hand, represent a means of escaping this cycle: a world full of knowledge and information and independent thought. How true! But if I’m frank, I really didn’t enjoy the style of the prose and narration. The structure of sentences were, I assume, designed to evoke a more rigid world, but they were jarring on the ear (and I assume on the page). This didn’t make for easy listening and it made it hard for me to get invested in any of the characters. This is obviously a personal thing that I couldn’t overcome that many others may be able to – but it did impact my enjoyment somewhat. Overall, it’s a book of Big Themes and while I imagine these were bold(ish) in 1953, it’s a bit harder to find them revolutionary in 2024 when we’re a bit more self-aware. That said, I’m glad I read it and would say it is worth a go if it sounds like a genre or topic that interests you. ❓ Have you read Fahrenheit 451?

☁️☀️ the unhoneymooners - review 🏝️ Guys, guys, guys! You know when a book just gives you that five star feeling and you just had such a good time reading it - this was it for me! It was actually my @_amysbookclub pick of the month and I’m so happy we picked it! The Unhoneymooners has to be one of the funniest books I’ve ever read, I was giggling like a love drunk hyena the entire way through and I just loved Ethan and Olive so much. Their flanter was unmatched and Ethan is my favourite kind of MC. It was fun, it was flirty and I couldn’t get enough of it. This was marketed as enemies to lovers but let’s be real, our couple didn’t even hate each other. It was more miscommunication to lovers than anything else, each of them having the impression the other didn’t like them - and oh god they couldn’t have been any more wrong! I loved as that forced proximity took over and our couple actually communicated with each other, and that sizzling chemistry couldn’t keep them apart in the end Let’s not even talk about the fake dating WITH A TWIST! You know I go feral for a fake dating trope, it had me kicking and screaming like a mad woman, but this was some genius kind of fake marriage set up and OMGGGG when I tell you I lapped it up I’m not even joking. This is a perfect summer read, charming in every way and will have you swooning so hard while making you laugh out loud! The easiest 5 stars I ever did dish out! 🙌🏼

“𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙚?”….”𝙇𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮.” ★★/5 Wow, I was disappointed by this book! Let’s start with the things I DID LIKE - there were some funny moments here and there, and the conflict (especially its resolution) between Vivian and her father was an interesting addition to the plot. The story also became a BIT more captivating towards the end. But unfortunately, that’s it. I was bored during the first 250 pages (FYI, the book has 379 pages) - and though the last third of the book became a bit more interesting, it was too late to save the whole book. There was absolutely nothing happening in the first 2/3 of the book. I haven’t even enjoyed the spicy scenes (which I usually love) because there was zero anticipation, and everything seemed forced. The beginning of the relationship between Dante and Vivian was so unnatural and unrealistic that the anticipation and chemistry couldn’t be well built. Dante’s character also didn’t match his behaviour- I expected a grumpy billionaire, but his simping over Vivian like a 16-year-old boy was insufferable…Everything was just too unrealistic for me to build any connection to the characters or the story itself. #bookreview #kingofwrath #kingofsin #romancebooks #smutreaders #viviananddante #billionaireromance #bookstagram #anahuang #readingcommunity #booklover #booknerd #bookreviewersofinstagram #readingnook #bookdragon #bookish #bookishpost #honestbookreview

The Woman in the Window" by A.J. Finn is a gripping psychological thriller that draws readers into the isolated world of Anna Fox, a woman grappling with agoraphobia. Trapped within the confines of her home , Anna spends her days observing her neighbors through the lens of her camera lens. Anna becomes increasingly fixated on the lives of those around her, blurring the lines between reality and illusion. This book really kept me on edge and even I had to wonder who the suspect really was. Loved the narrative and the way the Anna's character develops is astounding. It adds so much depth and meaning to the story. Loved the pace and the plot. Each twist and turn in the plot adds layers to the mystery, making you want to read more. The atmospheric setting and vividly drawn characters will immerse you in Anna's world of paranoia and uncertainty. Some people might find the narrative a bit slow and I didn't love ending but overall I had a great time reading the book. ✨QOTD: Suggest me some good thrillers or crime books.... REVIEW: For the Love of Art ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I’m a sucker for a billionaire romance so I decided to give this one a try from my friend @lmeredith.books So, Isla is separated from her husband Don and struggling to come to terms with her new normal after having been with him for over a decade. FTLOA, follows her trying to navigate falling for the gorgeous billionaire Nathan Manning while discovering who she is post marriage. From the very first page I really enjoyed the banter in this book. I enjoyed the sarcasm from Isla and her two besties in the form of fun loving Lianne and eccentric gay, Frankie. Both were funny and sweet without being caricatures and were the right blend of madness to the straight laced Isla. There were some great scenes in their respective work places and I really liked the New York setting. I liked the overall story/premise and the hurdles both physical and emotional that Isla had to overcome and by the end I was on her side for finally claiming her happiness and doing the right thing. This brings me subtly to the fact that before the last part of the book, I wasn’t on Isla’s side. I found her a bit unlikeable if I’m honest as I couldn’t get my head around her attitude towards Nathan from day one. Perhaps if he had done something to her personally or even shown his personality/actions etc. to be anything like Isla presumes, I may have understood her hate for him. Without this hard hitting evidence of his heinous ways, she was judging a man she really didn’t know based on what she read in newspapers and that really annoyed me lol constantly jumping to conclusions about him felt a little unfair and i was glad when she finally opened up and explained what was going on with her. Re. what was going on with Isla, I appreciated the sensitivity of the subject so much and loved its inclusion in this genre. Cant say too much without spoilers but it was a nice edge to an otherwise straightforward love story which i really enjoyed. Lastly, the smut was smutting and we know I love that. 😈 Defo try this one out for an easy, no frills read with heart and banter.🥳⭐️ #books #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviewer #indie

🏙️💙🩵Monday Blues🩵💙🏙️ Book stacks are always fun and I love taking the time to make some pretty ones. This is the last Monday of the month and this month has been an up and down rollercoaster of chaos. From things with the house, to some of my favorite rescues finding their forever homes, to my birthday celebration, and finally to my mom’s emergency surgery last week. My little reminder to you that while you’re soaking up all the spice and romance and joy in your books to take time to enjoy the little things in your life too. ✨MINI REVIEWS✨ Starting off #Bookstareviewweek with two mini reviews. Title: Divine Rivals Author: Rebecca Ross Genre: Fantasy/Historical Fiction Rating: 5/5 Divine Rivals is beautifully written. I love the mix between fantasy, mythology and historical fiction. Definitely worth the hype. Title: Ruthless Vows  Author: Rebecca Ross Rating: 4/5 Ruthless Vows is an awesome sequel to Divine Rivals. It is a bit slow at times. The mythology takes a bigger role. Felicity Thompson, the FMC doesn't trust easily. She meets Jon Morgan; the famous womeniser, hockey player and he falls fast and hard. QOTD: Ever read a book, and it turns out to be really no t what you expected? Somehow, this book did that for me, but I was pleasantly surprised! I thought this would be dark, which it absolutely is, but there's also some interesting humor in here! The author wasn't scared to add in some silly moments and somehow that worked for the dark fairytale feel. Marra is an interesting, well-rounded protagonist who is in her 30s! This was nice, a fresh perspective versus the usual 20 something or less year old FMCs we are used to. The side characters are fun and there are def some intriguing and odd creatures in this story, which I loved. Otherwise, the pacing was a bit off to me at the beginning, but that sorted itself out, and I definitely got invested as the story progressed. I do wish the romance was more fleshed out. I still think this is a fun and unique read, though! CW: physical abuse, miscarriage, death, cannibalism. Have you read this one? What did you think!? #nettleandbone #darkfairytale #fantasylover #bookreviewersofinstagram #uniquebooks

How to Solve Your Own Murder was a fun take on a classic mystery a la Agatha Christie. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’m a sucker for anything remotely mentioning the great Ms Christie. I had a lot of fun trying to solve Annie’s Great Aunt Frances’ murder, long ago predicted by a boardwalk fortune teller. There are a lot of gentle twists, turns and sleuthing. This book was beautifully written with a tiny little English village that was a character in its own right (my favorite trope). If you’re an armchair detective with a love of casts of quaint and quirky characters, this book is perfect for you.

Happy Monday, Friends 🫶🏽 It’s already going to be MAY (insert @justintimberlake GIF here). And with the new month quickly approaching, that means it’s time for new goals. One of my goals is to severely cut back on book buying for a bit! I’ll be limiting myself to the book subscriptions I have ( @aardvarkbookclub & @bookofthemonth ) and MAYBE the $5 cafe book from @barnesandnoble if I haven’t already read it. The cafe book right now at my local Barnes & Noble is The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe 🔑 (pictured) ❓Do you ever drop by your local Barnes & Noble for the $5 cafe pick?

Let’s discuss The Serpent and the Wings of Night! We had a deadly competition, vampires and a human girl, and of course a forbidden attraction. Our FMC, Oraya, was intense and quick witted, and I loved the tension between her and Raihn. There was a lot of action that kept the story going and I LOVED it. 📚The Things We Leave Unfinished 🖋️ Rebecca Yarros Rebecca Yarros surprised me last year when she released Fourth Wing. I absolutely loved it and had to get my hands on her other work and I wasn’t disappointed. The Things We Leave Unfinished is told from different perspectives in different timelines but it is so easy to follow. I loved all the characters and how they progressed through the book. {⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 REVIEW} • ✨FIFTY WORDS FOR RAIN by Asha Lemmie ✨BOOK #23 of 2024 ✨YEAR OF PUBLICATION: 2020 • 📖QUICK SYNOPSIS: Noriko was abandoned by her mother at eight years old and taken in by her wealthy and royal grandparents. However, as an illegitimate child, Nori’s grandmother kept her in the attic, washing her skin with chemical baths and beating her regularly. When Nori’s half brother, Akira, comes to the estate, she finds her first ally. Throughout the years to come, Nori faces countless hardships, but continues to fight to break free. • 💭THOUGHTS: Towards the beginning of the novel, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the book or not, as I felt like the story initially dragged a bit and took me a while to get into. However, despite some melodramatic moments throughout the novel, I ultimately liked it. As the book went on, I got more invested in Nori and her story. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the ending, but overall it was a decent read, albeit not a top historical fiction rec. • 🌧️I read this book for mine and Kaley’s @mamas_top_shelf #SeasonalCoversChallenge that we are hosting this year, where each month you read a book with the specified item on the cover—for April it was RAIN! 🐦 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶 🐦 ⬅️ Swipe for the synopsis 💭 𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 - Wow! This was a very powerful and moving story about the life of Nisha, a sri-lankan domestic worker living many miles away from home. The story is told in multiple POV'S as we follow the journey to uncover the mysterious disappearance of not only Nisha but other domestic workers. The writing is just so beautiful, almost poetic. The descriptions throughout are so intricate that not only was it an absolute delight to read, but I felt like I was almost a fly on the wall and seeing it with my own eyes. I highly appreciated the light shone on such a vulnerable group of women who are mostly taken for granted, abused, and ignored because of their class. I definitely feel like I've a whole new insight now. It was amazing yet so heartbreaking to read, and I think the book will stay with me for a long time to come. I am eager to read more by this author. I read this as a buddy read with @avid_reader_stories, we had similar thoughts throughout some of the book, and it was great having someone to talk to about it. ❓️𝗤𝗢𝗧𝗗 - If you had to choose to be an animal, what would you be? ➡️ 𝗔𝗢𝗧𝗗 - I've always said I'd be a bird. Night Circus by Erin Morgenshtern quick review 🎪: The book is 3/5 for me. It has very strong builded world and it was fascinating to read the magic explanation and the circus vibes are magical, but overall the book didn’t have something to capture me completely. I stopped reading in the middle and couldn’t make myself to finish. I think the author spent too much energy on world descriptions and a bit forget about characters development. And the love line, which is almost the main subject kinda lacking of emotions for me. I wanted more of drama I guess (?!) But I recommend to try it out just at least for the vibe! I can compare it to “Caraval” by Stephanie Garber, but much more well written. #bookthoughts #bookrecs #bookrecsofinstagram #bookcontent #bookishpost #bookishposts #bookishgirl #bookgirl #bookreviews #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviewblog #bookreading #bookscommunity #booksclub

👑 The Stolen Heir Duology by Holly Black The Stolen Heir ⭐️ 5/10 The Prisoners Throne ⭐️ 6/10 📖 Synopsis (Book 1): “A runaway queen. A reluctant prince. And a quest that may destroy them both. Eight years have passed since the Battle of the Serpent. But in the icy north, Lady Nore of the Court of Teeth has reclaimed the Ice Needle Citadel. There, she is using an ancient relic to create monsters of stick and snow who will do her bidding and exact her revenge. Suren, child queen of the Court of Teeth, and the one person with power over her mother, fled to the human world. There, she lives feral in the woods. Lonely, and still haunted by the merciless torments she endured in the Court of Teeth, she bides her time by releasing mortals from foolish bargains. Now seventeen, Oak is charming, beautiful, and manipulative. He’s on a mission that will lead him into the north, and he wants Suren’s help. But if she agrees, it wish mean guarding her heart against the boy she once knew and a prince she cannot trust, as well as confronting all the horrors she thought she left behind.” If you haven’t read The Cruel Prince Series, maybe jump in there first. Even though it’s not a must, the books revolve around Elfhame and the kingdoms story and you get a litte more background infos. I’ve read the first book beginning of 2023 and even though I liked it more than the Cruel Prince Series (not a huge Jude fan…), I still could’ve done without reading it. Book two I read as an audiobook which was great, it made me appreciate the world much more. But in general I was just missing depth, if that makes sense? The story was sweet, never really boring, but overall too YA for my liking (which I can’t really use as a critique point because it is categorized as Young Adult book 😂). But because I have already read the other book in the series, I had to see how the story ends. . . . #readingnook #bookaddict #readingaddict #booklover #booknerd #booklove #bücher #bücherliebe #fantasy #fantasybooksseries #fantasyreads #fantasylover #enemiestolovers #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookstagram #cruelprince #thestolenheir #fictionbooks #bookrecommendations #love

⭐️ BOOK REVIEW ⭐️ THE SPITE HOUSE BY Johnny Compton ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Spite house opens with Eric & his two daughters Dess and Stacy on the run, from what we don’t know. Eric is a black man in Texas with no work history & no contacts, so when he comes across an ad in the paper asking for a caretaker for Masson House, it seems like a blessing. When Eric arrives at the house he discovers it is a spite house, an oddly built house built with the purpose of upsetting the neighbours, its built on a hill overlooking an abandoned orphanage on the site of an historical massacre, the house is also supposed to be haunted. But with the money on offer can Eric discover the secrets of the house and keep his girls safe, all while hiding their secrets. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you want atmosphere this is the book for you, it basically drips with tension, there aren’t a lot of truly horrifying moments but there is a really well plotted mystery with a few twists that you don’t see coming. I loved the the characters, you get chapters from multiple peoples points of view & all of the Family Eric & his girls were characters I loved hearing from. I particularly enjoyed the primary twists as to what the family has in common with the house it was not at all what i had in mind & i loved what it added to the story, also the end was really good and satisfying I love a good ending. I would happily read another Johnny Compton book in a heartbeat, a great read. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #thespitehouse #johnnycompton #tornightfire #horrorbookreview #horrorbookreviewer #horrorbookreviews #horrorbookreviewers #bookreview #bookreviewing #bookreviewers #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviewsofinstagram #bookreviews #bookreviewsaustralia #bookreviewersofig #mysterybookreview #mysterybookreviews #mysterybookreviewers #mysterybookreccomendations #mysterybookreccs

Overboard - @emsolsticeauthor ⛴️ What a sizzling hot, spicy little ride this took me on! This was just 🥵 I don’t know what I was expecting but it certainly wasn’t this, I was pleasantly surprised! The chemistry and tension between the FMC and her love interest was immediate but then came along the SECOND love interest and I was hooked! Two possessive male love interests because why the hell choose!? I love a ‘why choose’ scenario! The spice in this was pure perfection. Possessive men, hand necklaces and a fair amount of good girl. 🫠 If you love to watch below Deck then you have to check out this novella based in the yachting world! Catch and Kill is one that has been on my radar for quite some time. Then with the news of the HW conviction being overturned in New York it felt like a timely read. It is INSANE. Very readable, but utterly crazy. And finally I'm on the @tandemcollectiveuk read along for The Lost Love Songs of Boysie Singh by Ingrid Persuad. I've fallen massively behind with this one, so I'm hoping to catch up today! Tell me what you're currently reading in the comments!

In this Shakespeare retelling we follow 22 year old Hal navigating life as queer in London with mounting pressures from his stiff upper lip family. Hal hides just fine until a funny (but still injury causing) gross shooting accident throws him into Percys arms and into a state of being he hasn’t experienced, in love. It’s quirky and written with a lot of enthusiasm and intrigue but this just didn’t hit it for me. I often felt there was overly descriptive language that didn’t match the rest of story or style. Additionally, the entire book felt a little too long and could’ve been condensed. I do believe others will get immense enjoyment out of the book and that perhaps this just wasn’t the one for me. ✌️ Thanks to Vintage for the proof copy 💚 • • • • • • #bookreview #bookreviewsandcoffee #bookreview📚 #bookreviewsbyabooklover #vintagebooks #henryhenry #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviewerofinstagram #bookreviewoftheweek #bookreviewsnobodyaskedfor #lgbtqbooks #lgbtqbooks🏳️‍🌈

✨Book Forty Six✨ This was my first taste of Hazelwood’s work and considering I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it (I’m not massively into romance), I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I anticipated. Bride weaves an enthralling tale of forbidden love, political intrigue, and the age-old conflict between species. Misery Lark is a fun MC & I enjoyed how sassy & witty she was. Lowe Moreland, Alpha of the Weres, adds depth to the story with his complex character and the tension-filled dynamic between him and Misery. I have to say, I didn’t really find him giving Alpha energy, but I’ve not read anything like this before so maybe he was & I don’t know what I’m talking about 😂 One thing I disliked was the smut talk. I’m not into smut anyway so I wasn’t expecting to get on board with it, but I found this incredibly cringy. Maybe smut just isn’t for me 😅 Overall, I found it to be an entertaining, quick & fun read but not something I’d read again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🏷️: #alihazelwoodbooks #alihazelwood #bridealihazelwood #paranormalromance #paranormalromancenovels #romancebooks #romancenovel #bridebook #romantasybooks #bookreviews #bookreviewsofig #bookreviewersofinstagram

Jason is a mafia romance novel written by the author Skylar Greene, published in February 2024. It’s a brief, fast-paced tale about brother’s best friend and forbidden love. The main characters of the narrative are Dawn and Jason D’Angelo. Even though he knew he would never be able to have Dawn, Jason has always loved her. Despite his sentiments, he forced himself to stay on the sidelines and accept that they were meant to be. He understood that their relationship was unfeasible due to his destiny as the Don. She was not going to fit into his way of life. The only way to keep her safe would be to let her go. Dawn needs him now more than ever, and the emotions he repressed are coming to the surface. Dawn has just learned that her husband has been unfaithful to her for the majority of their marriage. She is too ashamed to speak to her brother, so she turns to her brother’s best friend Jason. Jason started out as her confidant, but as he listened to her story, she began to think about what life would be like with Jason in it. As they navigate through this complicated situation, Dawn and Jason will have to face their biggest fears and biggest dreams. Can they overcome these obstacles and find true happiness? Time will tell. The book is fast-paced and mainly focuses on the physical relationship between Jason and Dawn. All in all, I enjoyed reading this book. It’s only 116 pages long, so it’s a quick read for me. Highly recommended from my side. ✨BOOK REVIEW✨ SIENNA CROSS: KING OF TEMPTATION SERIES BOOK #3 BRUTAL KING @siennacrossbooks Four half brothers in a series with feud is the most amazing trope that there is. It gets interesting, messy, dangerous, and with a HEA in the end. I love Nico's and Maisy's love story and I would say it also kept me emotionally invested thoroughly. I was so excited for this one and it never disappointed me. Moreover, Nico calling her 'little fox' was the best part. It always made me giddy while he would call her that name with all the wickedness he could measure in his tongue. I am probably reviewing the previous book 'Savage King' character because our queen Rose has played a significant role. She was an amazing friend. Though I did feel bad when she wouldn't listen to Maise, but everything worked out as she truly supported her friend in the end. This series is just getting more and more interesting and hard to leave. Can't wait for the next book 'Wicked King' till August. I am solely holding out my luck on ARC whether digital or physical, doesn't matter. Just give me Marco's story! This whole series was captivating. I can't seem to stop myself. I really enjoyed reading. All the found family streak also gave it a charm. Thanks author Miss Sienna Cross for another endless world of beautifully constructed characters that are our comfort and not to mention our devastation, lol. Totally recommended series! . . . . #booksofinstagram #shelfie #booksta #series #bookgirl #MafiaRomance #mafiabooks #TriggerWarning #booktok #spicybooktok #biblophile #romancereaders #bookish #currentread #reading #reader #kindle #ebook #MafiaLove #darkromance #booktoker #bookreviewer #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookpost #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviews #mybookreview

It was fabulous and i absolutely loved it❤️ The boss and employee relationships, the grumpy x sunshine tropes and just how wonderful the characters are. These books make you fall in love with the characters (even if you hate them to begin with😂). The brother trio was great and I loved how it was like a knockoff version of Disney land lol. REVIEW. Thank you Affirm Press for my ARC. The Story Thief is an Australian saga which follows Lillian Taylor from her birth in 1892 in outer western New South Wales up to her present life in 1954 in suburban Sydney. Tragic circumstances saw Lillian leave Bourke as a young girl and, through the generosity of a benefactor, become a boarder at Kincoppal Sacred Heart college in Rose Bay, Sydney. One day Lillian chanced upon a copy of While The Billy Boils, a collection of Henry Lawson’s short stories. [Reviewer’s note: I was given a copy of this book as a prize in my own convent school days, many years ago, (although not as long ago as Lillian’s, of course). Sadly, it was destroyed in a flood in 2022.]. Lillian was struck by the story, The Drover’s Wife, and she can’t help wondering if Henry Lawson had met her family and based his story on her mother. In her determination to find out the truth, and whether he was a ‘story thief’, she wrote a letter to Henry Lawson. I won’t be putting any spoilers in here on that thread. The twentieth century moves on as Lillian’s story unfolds through to the years of the Second World War and their aftermath. Her life is shaped by all the people who come into it, bringing happiness and, inevitably, sadness. Kyra Geddes’ elegant prose is perfect for invoking the magnitude of the changes in Australia’s, and the world’s, history from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries. Lillian is a deep and complicated character whose intelligence and strength, together with the kindnesses and friendships she encounters along the way, get her past her unbearably tragic beginnings and help prepare her, as far as possible, for everything her future holds. This book was absolutely unputdownable. Congratulations Kyra Geddes. Brilliant! ✨ 𝑩𝑶𝑶𝑲 𝑹𝑬𝑽𝑰𝑬𝑾 ✨ ⭑⭑⭑⭒ This was such an easy and quick read - it was 100 pages and I sped through it within half an hour! It wasn’t mind-blowing or anything, but there’s only so much you can fit into that number of pages. There was the perfect amount of slow-burn, and I would’ve loved to see more of the couple once they got together, but that’s just me being greedy! There’s 6 books in this series overall, I’m definitely gonna read them all so I can boost my progress towards my 2024 reading goal!! QOTD 🔍: have you read any of the books in this series? What did you think? QOTD 🔍: what short books would you recommend?

Book review: Love & Other Words by Christina Lauren 📖☕️💞 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 This book was so sweet and so wholesome. I loved the chemistry between Macy and Elliot - both their childhood and adult versions. I definitely didn’t see the little twist coming and it was so heartbreaking. I also didn’t expect any spice in this book so it caught me by surprise ngl 😂 but this book has friends-to-lovers, second chance romance tropes, with past and present timelines, and I loved it so much. I’m ngl though, the only thing is I just couldn’t picture what they looked like 🫠 but I can definitely see why this was so hyped! I had a smile plastered to my face almost the entire time bc of how cute it was. 10/10 def recommend if you’re looking for something light and cute with a little heartbreak 😂🫶🏻 qotd: have you read this? what were your thoughts?
