When I first did the modern loft’s walls and floor I used card stock paper printed with textures I found online. It didn’t stick and stay down very well after about a year and a half so I went back in for a second try. This time I printed the wall brick on sticker paper and laid down the wood veneer. What a huge improvement! Oh yeah I have also installed plexiglass half wall on the second floor. Slow progress. Yall, I can’t believe I never shared this here, but do y’all remember me telling you we were tearing out a garage apartment to make an outdoor living/patio space?? If not, just a quick recap- this garage and apartment was built in 1927 behind our 1927 house. It wasn’t kept up and for years now, we’ve used it for storage/shop. Last spring, my husband decided to start tearing out the apartment side. The whole floor was rotted and had to be rebuilt, and new piers had to be added to the foundation. We worked on it from Soring last year until October. Most of it done during the miserable Texas summer heat, which was more than extreme last summer. 😅 I don’t have all my furniture yet, and I’m thinking about painting the floor in a checkerboard pattern, but it’s finished for the most part! Oh- and we’ll eventually landscape and build a fire pit! I’ll share more when I have some good pics that aren’t Christmas!! Here’s some afters, befores, and during….What do y’all think? Let’s talk about this dark narrow corridor… So one of the things we weren’t sure about when we first looked at the house (which we did separately, due to work but that’s another story) was that we weren’t sure about this entrance hall which was the centre of the house and was very dark. We must have seen past the issue because we planned out the rooms and thought about new floor and lighting to help. We quickly realised that the hallway and arch to the living area was quite a barrier in regards to where we would put furniture.. I’m jumping here because I haven’t yet explained about the disastrous water situation but long story very, very short is that we came to the point of needing to replace the floor and so we have taken out the thin plasterboard wall which separated the kitchen to the hall. We also then made huge changes to the layout but that’s for another post… So with taking down the hallway wall we lost a radiator but gained a wider hall way to the kitchen (then had to decide if we wanted open plan… because initially we both hated the idea of open plan!)
